• Could have had an AC, needed window in bathroom, shower to soft.

• The lobby was nice and the staff was helpful.
• The walls were so thin you could hear everything and the bathroom was ancient.

“Very misleading the lobby was attractive, but then we were sent off to a room in the back between 2 parking lots and an alley and the first room had an unmade bed so we requested another. The walls were so thin you could hear everything and the bathroom was ancient and the water had an awful foul odor not a great experience and definitely not for the price!”

• Rooms are way out of date like 1950's style.

“Location is near enough to Monterey Bay but in a business area close to hospitals and doctors offices. Nice pool and landscaped nicely to cover older building. Tapas restaurant but not explanation to help understand what and how to enjoy it. Looked mostly appeal for its bar. An expensive health spa that looked interesting. Rooms were well painted but very dated. Staff was mechanical and stiff in approach to customers. Parking was cramped to SUV blocked parking area and could have caused an accident. Drinkers were very noisy in the evening. Might stay there again but not at that price even for Monterey.”

• Rooms windows need to be updated.

“The hotel is conveniently located in Downtown Monterey and within walking distance from all major points of interest of the city. The rooms do not have AC but rarely is that ever necessary in Monterey, CA. The bed was comfortable and the room fairly spacious. The windows are only single paned and the shutters or windows blinds are not enough to keep the noise out.”

• Staff was extremely receptive and accommodating. Nice landscaping. Close to city center.
• Room location was under a stairway, which contributed to noise. Room was quite small. No options for upgrades.

“Though this hotel outwardly appears to have provided a more sophisticated attention to detail re landscaping and decor, it is overall, a glorified motel. Our room was very small, and there were no options for upgrades when we queried staff. We were placed off the hallway under a stairwell which was frequently used. Given the size of the hotel, there was a very small pool area, with no typical amenities such as a Jacuzzi. Continental breakfast consisted of coffee, tea and fruit. Though staff was friendly, we all noticed among certain staff a slightly overzealous effort to please. Nevertheless, service was prompt and always courteous.”

• Loved the room atmosphere and the featherbed. Very relaxing and comfortable.
• Water pressure in sink and shower need help!

“We were very pleased with this hotel and would definitely stay here again. The hotel was very comfortable and an easy walk to the wharf. The room was a nice surprise compared to the exterior which is old (the hotel is being renovated). Bathrooms are small due to being historical building, but well equipped. There is a Day Spa on the site which was great! All in all a great vacation for us!”

• Friendly staff, central location, overall clean and comfortable.
• Horribly stuffy room, moldy shower stall and nasty/grungy bathroom floor tiles.

“Overall, this hotel is clean and in a safe location. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The morning fruit, afternoon cookies and tea is a welcome amenity. The outdoor firepit is a comfortable place to just relax around. Our room was extremely smelly and stuffy. I had to go to a nearby store to get air freshener! I asked if other rooms were available, but they said none were. The bathroom shower was also smelly and moldy. I did not want to touch the floor or walls when taking a shower! In general, the bathroom was tiny. The bed was comfortable and clean. The hotel was quiet, even though there were families with small children staying there.”

• Lovely room and warm pool. Nice workout room. Bakeries and old Monterey all in walking distance. Very professional staff.
• My room was too close to several garbage pick ups on Monday morning.

“I enjoyed this hotel with its nice workout room and very warm pool, lovely decor. Staff was very professional, and the restaurant had a good innovative menu, though we walked downtown to old Monterey to eat. Several bakeries and other shops, historical walking tour very close by. I did ask about the noise level in this room, though it was a single story building, we did have quite a wake-up with garbage pick up on a Monday morning. Otherwise great, would return!”

• Rustic feel with soft bedding. Close to attractions. Friendly staff.
• Very noisy room! Water pipe, neighboring room and traffic noise woke me up all night. Small room and bath.

“Rustic feeling older hotel. Rooms and bathrooms are small, but romantic for couples. Proximity to downtown is nice for walking, but you will need to drive if you want to visit Canary Row. It's not far to attractions, but it is on the outer portions of the downtown. Parking is tough for larger vehicles so take a small car. Try the local bakery restaurants, great breakfast.”

“Upon arrival we were greeted with a smile and taken care of right away. The staff was friendly. The room was pleasant and clean. The concierge service was exceptional and offered great advice on places to visit and eat. I would stay again.”

“The hotel has a newly renovated lobby with tea and cookies. The rooms are very outdated with tile from the 50's in the bathroom. The hook in the bathroom was broken and the walls needed painting. There is no air conditioning!”

• The bathroom was a right next to the walkway and we could not open the window.

• Great staff. Location was convenient. The heated swimming pool was awesome.
• Charged 20 for roll away bed.

“Casa Munras was great find. The location was right in downtown so it was close to everything. The free shuttle to cannery row and the aquarium is only a few blocks away. My kids loved the heated swimming pool. The free DVD rental was awesome especially for the kids. Overall great experience I hope to come back soon.”

• Noisy, cramped, dirty bathroom floor.

“Staff is great, lobby and common areas high quality. Rooms feel like a former Travelodge with fancy beds and nice bedding. Walls thin enough to hear neighbor, single pane windows allow people to be heard clearly and are not secure, no ventilation in the bathroom. Hotel tries hard, but should get 1.5 stars, not 3. You'll feel like you're in a low budget hotel, not like you're at a Hyatt, Hilton, Embassy Suites, Marriot or Sheraton.”

• Very nice facilities, the restaurant was very pleasant.
• In the morning, it was quite noisy making it difficult to sleep in.

“The hotel appears to be an older property that has been partially upgraded to current standards. The bathroom was clean and functional but was rather small. The shower was very small. It was difficult to use without constantly bumping the control lever and getting either very cold or scalding water. The windows also need to be replaced with double pane windows for sound deadening. It was quite noisy in the morning.”

• Noisy, the room it self wasn't much better then a motel 6.

“If watching TV in bed my neck got tired having to watch it perpendicular to the bed. They also have no smoking rooms even though a staff worker said they did. We had to smoke in the frigging parking lot! I know smoking is not the in thing anymore but I still don't like being treated like a second class citizen! I doubt I will stay there again.”

“Rooms are small. Would not be great for more than 2. No real area to read in room. The lobby and public areas area excellent. Easy access from freeway. Close to the wharf. Really liked outdoor fire pit (gas) for conversation, coffee, and a brandy.”

• Very close to downtown Monterey and wharf. Easy to find. Staff was friendly.
• Room was kind of musty smelling.

“We enjoyed our stay at Casa Munras. We were very centrally located on the property. Other rooms are farther away from things and it would have been a totally different experience. The rooms are older and for the most part redone pretty nice besides some musty smells. This is not a new hotel. The staff was very accommodating and helpful. We did not eat at the restaurant but did swim in the heated pool. Our 3 boys had a blast even though some of the other guests were probably a little put off by our kids splashing around and just being boys.”

“The rooms were small, outdoors and the fan in the bathroom did not work leaving us with an uncomfortably humid room the entire night. Since the room had no A/C (because it was Monterey), the only solution was a small oscillating fan and open windows.”

• They provided a lovely tea and cookie service in the evening and beverage service with organic apples in the morning.
• The room was tidy and fairly well appointed BUT seemed a little dingy: like it had seen cleaner days.

“This place worked well for our short visit to Monterey and was nicely situated in the historic Downtown away from, yet very close to the tourist trap that is Cannery Row and the area around the Aquarium. The main building that houses the reception area and restaurant is much newer and swankier than the nesting surrounding buildings that house the guest rooms. The staff was cordial and able to answer all of our questions and the hotel offers nice little services that make it not so ordinary: tea and cookies in the lobby in the evening, apples and beverages in the morning, DVD rentals and free internet access. The "Lather" bath products are pleasant but our room was a tad shabby and clearly needed a good deep cleaning to get rid of the old grime in the carpets and bathroom tile.”

• Tiny room with Tinier bathroom that stunk for huge amount of money.

“Be very careful about this hotel. It is a hotel with a number of buildings and I did not see an elevator for them, except for the main building. You drag your luggage up a flight of stairs. The room we had was very small, and the bathroom was so small that our teenage daughter had trouble finding it; she thought it was a closet. There is only a foot or two around beds, between furniture and walls; very snug. Awefully expensive for such a small space; the room was not worth that price. Our bathroom gave off a stench like sewer gas but we could not find the source. The hotel restaurant was very good, and the drinks and cookies provided in the lobby were very nice. We did not check out the lobby breakfasts. If the other buildings were as nice as the lobby building, I would not have any complaints. However, that was not the case.”

• I did like how nice the main lobby area was and also I liked how convenient this location was.
• I did not like the room's bathroom at all. We had problems with the bath tub and the toilet. I think they need to remodel their bathrooms.

“Overall, this hotel was ok. It's not the best if you are expecting something really nice. But if you're not too picky and just want a decent place to stay in, then this is a place for you. There is a nice heated pool, so the kids can enjoy, even in cooler weather and there is wireless internet available in the rooms, which comes in handy when I needed to log in for work. My only main complaint is that the room's bathroom is not very nice. It's quite outdated. If the hotel would spend some time and money to upgrade their bathrooms, then I would have enjoyed it a bit more.”

“Renovated but still room dimensions were along the lines of an older hotel. Our room was upstairs with no elevator access. Free WiFi and $2.00 bottled water in room are pluses. Lobby and adjacent bar very nice with good Tapas restaurant.”

“For the price, this hotel met our expectations and I would recommend it to anyone who stays in the Monterey area. A fire pit for romance, a pool for fun and a short walk from the night life. What more could you ask for?.”

• Lady at the front desk was very helpful.
• The location in which they put us was extremely inconvenient.

“I would never recommend this hotel to anyone! We were stuck in a corner where no one could park. In addition, there was noise outside the window all night and we had to have our windows open, since there was no air conditioning. Our next door neighbors had young children and they were screaming very early in the morning. This was not an enjoyable stay!”

• Good location, close to downtown and ocean front path. Also, great water pressure in the shower.
• Room was small, no room for your suitcase unless you didn't hang anything up in the closet.

“If you want to be walking distance from downtown, this is a good hotel. Locals told us that the food was good, but the wait was too long. I saw several on the ocean front path that looked adorable and had ocean views.”

• Some of the clutter in parking area, No assigned parking for bldg. units.

“Front desk personnel were very friendly. Rooms are very warm and nicely decorated. The fireplace work will and added a nice ambiance to the decor. Will stay again.”

• The outside fire pit, the lobby, internet and the pool.
• The actual room decor was not average.

“It is very quaint. I like the balconies and little wooden tables for sitting outside on the balcony. The actual rooms were way more average than the rest of the hotel which looked more upscale in the common areas.”

• The lobby area was very upscale, lovely, and comfortable. The staff were amazing!
• The rooms were older and small. I hadn't had a motel experience at a 3-star hotel before (car parked outside the room).

“The room was smaller than I expected. Hotel is set up more like a motel with all doors opening to the outside and parking your car just outside of your room. Great location for seeing attractions in Monterey and Carmel. We only stayed for one night.”

“A good decent place, not quite 3 stars. Our room was OK but not really special. Noise from other rooms was a slight issue. However location is very good, and the price is about average. The main problem is parking which was saturated. No near parking if the hotel is filled.”

• Everything was great, no working spa though.

“The hotel was very well kept and the staff was very friendly. Our room was upgraded since it was less than full. Bathroom as a little small for the star rating that the facility had, but still very comfortable.”

• Hotel lobby was beautifully remolded and the staff was really friendly.
• The room's walls are quite thin so you can hear the neighbors and the maids talking together.

“This hotel was a nice surprise. I will come back and visit this hotel again for sure. The rooms are not big, actually on the small side but there is a nice feel to it. The hotel staff was helpful and very friendly. I would recommend this hotel to everyone.”

“I really enjoyed my stay here. It was an older hotel that had been remodeled, but one of the things I like was it didn't have a musty or moldy smell that some older hotels have. The fire pit outside the restaurant was great for relaxing!”
