• The rooms are clean, the beds are very nice, and it was safe.
• Worst hotel breakfast EVER, shower water changed frequently cold to super hot.

“So my expectations for this hotel weren't super high, with only 2 stars. The rooms were really nice, with a lot of room and really nice beds. The staff was nice enough, kind of not noticeable. Really my best description would be good enough. Only a couple problems, like the shower water changing from cold to scalding hot randomly.”

“No air control in the room made the stay very stuffy and hot. I couldn't open the windows due to the foot traffic and wild fires burning. The owners need to put some more money into this hotel to bring it up to standards. I got more water out of my sink faucet than the shower. Closet small sink area small”

• Cathedral ceilings, fireplace.
• Road noise, thin walls.

“Good location on Munras Avenue (which is an exit from highway 1). Our room had cathedral ceilings and a fireplace. From the queen bed you had a view of Monterey Bay. Tastefully furnished and wireless functionality. We also liked the indoor pool (with Jacuzzi) and the continental breakfast. Our only complaint was that the walls were not soundproofed well and you did pick up road noise throughout the night. I recommend that you leave the air conditioner fan on all night as the white noise is helpful. Nice staff.”

• Staff treated my elderly parents with kindness and respect - and upgraded their accommodations.
• Nothing.

“We will return. We like the Tuscan rooms, the knowledgeable staff helping us on wine tasting choices and complimentary coupons, liked the continental breakfast and the breakfast room. Just generally pleased.”

• Great breakfast.
• Not walking distance (3 miles) from aquarium.

“Although this hotel is not far from the aquarium and other cannery row attractions, it certainly is not walking distance from anything other than a Jack in the Box. Wireless internet didn't work, but there was a network cable in the room. Kids loved the indoor pool.”

“Basic place to stay. They had a daily continental breakfast from 7:00 to 9:00 AM, by eight there wasn't much left. When vacationing I don't get up early. Not many restaurants nearby.”

• Room stunk, bath fan sounded like a jet.

“This is a one minus star motel. We had two rooms. One had a very offensive odor. The other had an uncomfortable burn mark in the carpet and a bath fan that sounded like a jet taking off.”

• The pool was nice and the laundry units were convenient.
• The pool was really close to the road and the road was always busy.

“It's a great place to stay for an over night stay. There was free breakfast. A pool to swim in, laundry units available.”

• Lots of vibrant plants and flowers on premises.
• The pool had so many chemicals eyes burned for hours after swimming.

“Not a place to stay for a romantic trip, although there is a great indoor pool the chemicals are so strong I suggest not using it. The free wireless internet strength was so low that it was near impossible to use. Carpet in the room had something on it, when I left the hotel my feet slipped around in my socks because they were coated with something.”

• The room was very large, ice box and microwave in room and also a fireplace. It is great we all enjoyed our stay.

“Updated interiors with granite & other stonework in bathroom. Stay away from the street and request an upstairs room. The windows are poorly insulated and you can hear people going up/down stairs.”

• The landscaping was beautifully done, cottage style.
• Sound traveled too well from one room to the next.

“It is a beautiful cottage style setting. The staff is friendly, the rooms are clean and all the amenities you need are there. That said, it is not walking distance to all the attractions and the hotel staff did not know the area very well.”

“This is a family friendly, clean, conveniently located motel. Overall we had a very good experience. I would suggest modernizing the rooms with attention to detail (artwork, trim work, vanity area). The beds were very comfortable.”

• Staff was accommodating of booking issue and got us a room before check-in time.

“The hotel was very clean and well maintained. There was some concern about check-in, but the staff was understanding and in order to get us a room at the 2:00 time they upgraded us from a queen bed without a fireplace to a king bed with fireplace.”

• Hotel staff was clueless about basic directions in Monterey.

“You could tell the hotel just hired people to have a body at the register. They did not know anything about Monterey. An example was basic directions. After the first attempt at getting information from the hotel staff, I realized they were so out of it I just didn't even try to ask them anything else.”

“Great hotel. It is 2 miles from the Monterey Aquarium, 1 mile from Fisherman Wharf. The aquarium is one mile from the Fisherman's Wharf. A great walk. Wish I had more time to spend in Monterey, one day is not enough. try the fish grotto on Fisherman's Wharf.”

“The staff here is excellent, the service you would expect to find in a 5 star hotel. Conveniently located to the major attractions in Monterey. Rooms clean and smelled great.”

• The shower surround was marble, and the bathroom was very clean.
• The public hot tub had floating filth in it.

“My son and I went into the public hot tub early in the evening. We noticed that suds floating on the surface of the water were dirty, so we got out of the tub. When we returned to the room we smelled a strong odor, which was coming from our swimsuits. The water in the hot tub was had a very foul odor. We called the front desk, and they said "the hot tub is cleaned daily at noon." if that is true, they need to clean it more often. I will never return to that hotel, which is a shame because the location was decent, and the bathroom was extremely clean.”

“Very attractive exterior hotel with a very helpful staff at check-in. The king size bed was very comfortable but interior furnishing was outdated with inferior sitting chairs. Television old CRT type with poor picture quality. Indoor pool was available but water was extremely dirty and pool not usable.”

• It was close to the beach without being right on it. It was clean.
• There were three chairs, a table, two beds, a dresser, and ent. Center - a little crowded.

“This hotel was easy to find. The room was clean and had the number of beds and sizes we requested. It was reasonably priced for the location and amenities. The continental breakfast was nice. I just returned the keys at check-out and was done. Very simple.”

• I loved the room I stayed in. It was one of the nicest rooms I have been in.
• I did not like the parking as it was very crowded and I ended up having to park on the street.

“The staff was extremely helpful and nice. The room was clean, had a coffee maker with coffee, a hair dryer, robes, mints, a refrigerator/freezer, a couch, good shampoo/conditioner/bar soap, etc. The room I stayed in had a fireplace in it and a air cooler/heater and I was totally comfortable. My bed was soft and huge and had enough blankets on it and pillows. I like my stay there. I didn't check out the indoor pool/spa, nor did I have any of the free breakfast in the morning, so I cannot give a comment on those, but I enjoyed my stay.”

• The hotel was generally clean and moderately priced. The clerk was friendly and tried to be helpful.
• The bed had some kind of mattress pad that slid around underneath me.

“The hotel is located on Freemont street, a busy street with many other relatively inexpensive hotels and restaurants. There is a grocery store in the area. It was not very busy, but I could see that it had the potential to get noisy. It had a pool but no hot tub, which I would not expect to be an issue for most people who would choose this hotel. A free breakfast is offered, but it was not served until 7:30, which was too late for us. The room had a small refrigerator, a microwave and a coffee maker. We did not use them, but they could have been useful. The hotel is relatively convenient to the attractions in the area, and is therefore ok for low budget business travel and/or leisure travel which is either low budget or for which the hotel room is a low priority. I would probably not go back to this hotel, but I have seen worse.”

• I liked the room. It was clean and comfortable.
• It was extremely NOISY at night with partiers.

“That was puzzling, but the situation worsened at night when a large group descended on the hotel to party nearly all night. No staff person seemed to try to stop them. There were adults (drunk and loud) and children in this party. The children ran races outside our door and the adults were noisy long into the night. Another guest, in frustration, yelled at them to be quiet and they threatened a major fight. It was scary, not monitored at all by staff people, and completely deprived us of any sleep at all. The partiers claimed (to the other guest) that they could do whatever they wanted to, threatened him, and kept the noise up for quite a while. This was a very unpleasant stay and I will not return there. As one of our party was riding a 100 mile bike ride the next day, the lack of sleep severely impacted us negatively.”
