• The bedding was luxurious; I was able to sleep very well.
  
• The walls are thin and the noise from the street can keep you up all night if you are from the same time zone.

“I found the room to be clean, but the water pressure wasn't that great. The noise from the street would keep someone up all night if they were a light sleeper. Also early in the morning you hear the garbage trucks going up and down the street for pickups. The fee for internet and wireless service is outrageous$9.95 a day. There are cheaper hotels in the area which offer free wireless. The location is great for those who want to travel around Monterey. My favorite thing in this hotel was the duvet bedding. It was extremely comfortable and I slept like a baby.

• Large rooms, attractive interior, good customers, good night parking situation.
• Stains in the room on pillows and towels, not close to Cannery Row.

“Good business hotel, large rooms, but stains on curtains, pillows and towels. Overall, not a four star experience, more 3 star. The hotel is too far from Cannery Row (1.3 miles). Hotel is close to a $5 per day public parking garage. Many convention guests and friendly valet guys.”

• The apples.
• Rooms are small. Double beds were too small.

“This hotel either has 2 double beds which are very small or the one king. The king bed was so bouncy that only one person should sleep in it. If you toss and turn, the other person can't sleep as they are being bounced around. The buffet breakfast was a shambles, and not cheap either.”

• Staff was excellent. Gave us a free upgrade room and sent champagne and chocolate covered strawberries for my 50th birthday.
• Charged for daily valet parking fee.

• The location to various attractions.
• Staff was not as courteous as I had expected.

“The hotel itself was very nice. The valet and bell hop were very courteous; however the front desk, bar, room service and concierge could have been more courteous.”

• Nice room, comfortable bed.
• Room was across from 24 hour hotel gym loud noise all night.

“The hotel would have been fine, had our room not been across the hall from the 24 hour hotel gym. It was noisy all night with the door slamming and made it difficult to sleep.”

• The staff gave us an ocean view room upon request.
• You have to use valet, for $19/night, or park 1 1/2 blocks away.

• The location was good.
• It is very noisy if you have someone next door who like to slam doors at 5 AM.

“The hotel was average. The location was great. The people in the hotel room next to us liked to bang their door from 5 AM to 9 AM. The hotel was nice and switched our room. The second room was much quieter. The rooms are on the small side.”

• The valets were helpful and go out of their way.
• The front staff at the desk would not get the elevator fixed and were not very friendly.

“Overall it was okay. They did not want to give us a room with double beds. They were not very warm and welcoming like you would expect a hotel to be and it was a long walk to the wharf even though when I called they stated they were less than a block away it was more like a mile away.”

• I liked the location. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go in Monterey.
• Uncomfortable beds and pool.

“For the most part we were very pleased with the hotel. It was in a great location, close to fisherman's Warf and we were able to walk everywhere we needed to go. It was a very attractive hotel and my kids were very impressed with how fancy it was. Some things I was disappointed in were the beds, very uncomfortable, especially for a Marriott. I have stayed at other Marriott's and the beds were more comfortable than my own. The entire pool was only 3 feet deep and they only have valet parking for $19.00 a night. I would stay there again because of the location and cleanliness. We had a great trip!”

• They accepted the coupon I had earned from previous stays at the Marriott.
• In the bar, we had a two bottles of French wine we had purchased for our anniversary. They would not waive the $20 corking fee.

“The hotel accommodations were great. This was our third time at this hotel. We were there to celebrate our 16th wedding anniversary and had purchased two bottles of French wine. We ate at the Characters Sports Bar in the hotel. Upon sitting, we told the server that we were guests at the hotel and we were celebrating our special day and had some wine we had purchased. They would not waive the $20 corking fee. I thought it was tacky.”

• They were very responsive to a personal request.
• They only had one set of elevators and this didn't feel real comfortable.

“The staff didn't seem very informed regarding the surroundings. We asked for recommendations for places to eat and she didn't know. We asked for a drug store and he recommended one a mile and half away when there are one approximately two blocks away and a store around the corner. The overall experience was very good. The dining for breakfast was excellent. The room was cute.”

• The location was perfect! The room beautiful and very comfortable.
• No restaurants worthy of 4 star rating.

“Loved it and will return. Hotel staff recommended excellent restaurants within walking distance. Surprised no in-house restaurants as in most 4 star hotels.”

• Liked the perfect access to the downtown shops & restaurants.
• Somewhat dirty from the outside, parking, internet & breakfast are all extras.

“When I first saw the Marriott Monterey it looked a little worn down from the outside. It could use a brand new coat of paint, or at least a major scrub down. The parking situation was a little poor as they only offer valet parking as an extra. But inside, the lobby area was spacious and clean and the staff was fine. I selected a room with a bay view and the view was gorgeous. It was a shame that parking, internet & breakfast are all extras for the price, but the location can't be beat for the downtown area and we had a great time. I would recommend this hotel and stay again.”

• Beautiful views from room. Beautiful color schemes in the room.
• The bathroom sink had a leak in our room.

“Overall I enjoyed my stay. I had stayed for my 30th anniversary with my wife. The hotel is in a great location and had great views for a great price. I would stay here time and time again. They made my room and stay special for my anniversary.”

• It was very convenient.
• It was very loud in the room & no mini-refrigerator.

“It was the most expensive hotel that we stayed in while in California. From inside the room, you could hear everything that was going on in the corridor and adjacent rooms. And we expected wireless and a mini-refrigerator for the price of the room per night.”

• great location and very helpful staff, very nice room
• Street noise, wedding party above us and remodeling in the room next door

“We were placed in a room next to an area they were remodeling. They actually had people working all night. In addition to the construction next door there was a wedding party on the floor above us with loud music and vibrations from the dance floor. Our room faced the street and you could hear street noise all night. I called the front desk twice and they seemed to be aware of the problems, but I still got no sleep all night, which was disappointing from such a nice hotel and staff.”

“The Marriott is well appointed and has an excellent staff. Being right near the Monterey Wharf it is centrally located to great restaurants and downtown shops. A 10 minute transit ride to the aquarium is also great. Loved my stay and will definitely return.”

“I would rate my stay at the Marriott, Monterey as almost excellent. The service was great, the room was nice and they were more than willing to accommodate our request for a King size bed. I would recommend this hotel to any of my friends. Our stay was a rewarding experience. I think we were gouged a bit on the price but I assume this was due to the Jazz Festival in town.”

“The hotel was one of the noisiest hotels I've ever stayed in. Sirens, discos, loud neighbors, and thin walls. I also needed to skip my 1st night and arrive the next day. I knew I had already paid for the room, but I didn't care because I needed to stay in San Francisco for business. This was an almost insurmountable problem for them. They didn't care that I had already pre-paid for the stay.”

“Keeping in mind that the labor day weekend is probably one of the busiest weekends of the year, this hotel seemed somewhat disorganized. Our bathtub was not clean when we arrived and we requested at the front desk that it be cleaned, which did not occur. Even on the second day while housekeeping tidied up the room did not clean the bathtub. I had to flag down a housekeeping manager in the hallway to finally get the bathtub clean. Other than that the pool area was small and did not get a lot of sun and there was too many noisy kids running around. This hotel was lower quality than I imagined I would be receiving.”
