  • Beds were 4 star. Staff 4 star.
  • No where to walk.

“The entire staff did everything they could to make our stay a good one. The beds were better than other 4 star hotels in San Jose. Nice touch with the chocolate chip cookies. The receptionist explained why they have to charge for parking ($9 a day of weekends; $18 on weekdays). The parking lot was being used by airport travelers as a free spot to leave your car.”

  • Large rooms.
  • Tired and somewhat worn, questionable guests.

“The staff was very accommodating of our late check-in 11 pm. The entrance and parking guidelines are very unclear at night without a valet on duty. The lobby is far from the front door and unclear. I was a single female checking in at the front desk alone while my boyfriend took care of the car, and as I was talking to the front desk, a drunk/high guest came down to get a key changed. This guest kept bothering me and overheard my room number. Later that night, he knocked on the door! The quality of guests in this hotel are frightening!”

  • Opening sliders is a huge plus for me!
  • Charging for parking is ridiculous in San Jose.

“This is the old Red Lion. Well maintained, clean rooms. Sliders that open to get fresh air. Nice hotel, better than others around the area.”

  • Roof leaked, water everywhere in lobby, restaurants, old hotel, needs refurbishment.

“Poor value, old furnishing, carpet, pet oder, restaurants over priced and not high quality. Staff was OK but didn't go out of their way to provide extra service. No bellman assistance.”

  • It is close to the airport and the rooms are large.
  • 22% service charge on room service plus $3. No robes. Rooms was a bit run down.

“The hotel is large with large rooms. The staff is accommodating. Very close to the airport, which makes it easy to use the free shuttle. But a $3 service charge plus 22% more service charge on top of that (and they include 22% of the $3). Plus, the rooms are a bit on the run down side - just a little. The television is a bit old and small, no robes, the rooms were a little dirty and not serviced properly. One side of the hotel has the freeway running outside of it, so it can be noisy.”

  • Convenient airport location; comfortable room.
  • Expensive parking for a non-downtown hotel.

“Large, comfortable Double Tree property just off US 101 near San Jose International Airport. Courteous staff, gave me extra cookies upon request when I arrived late at night. My only complaint is that the hotel charges $18 for self parking, which seems very high for a hotel that is not located downtown. Otherwise, a great stay.”

  • Spotlessly clean; friendly staff; airport van; good food.
  • Charge for parking.

“Hotel was quiet and clean and convenient to airport and freeways. Airport van service starts early in the morning. Spencer's, the dining room, had excellent food and atmosphere. I also appreciated their accommodating my desire to read by giving me a table under a good light. No complaints. I hope to stay their again.”

  • Comfortable beds, spacious, clean.
  • Water was not hot enough - had to change rooms. Received handicap room.

“This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel in the past few months. Both visits we were given a handicap accessible room (not requested) and both times the water was not hot enough. The last visit we requested another room. For the money, the room was great.”

  • Poor location in relation to downtown, parking charges.

“Yes, the hotel rooms are slightly outdated structurally but they're clean and the beds are comfortable. You will have to turn the water to its max heat to get a comfortable water temperature, too. But all in all, this hotel is not. Lobby areas are very nice, the staff is friendly and the rooms are clean. Plus, there's Starbucks on site and a great prime steakhouse.”

  • It was convenient to have the restaurants in the hotel as it was raining and inconvenient to have to travel outside.
  • I asked at check in for a room away from the side of the hotel near the freeway, but was not accommodated for my request.

“Lobby is nice. Restaurant (Spenser's Steakhouse) was nice with good service, but rather expensive for a business traveler. The second restaurant, in which I had breakfast had friendly service, but the food was not particularly good and again, very expensive for what you got. The rooms are in need of some updating. The wood on the front door of my room was pealing away at the bottom, the shower was not very effective (low water flow) and the bed was a little lumpy. The TV was not flat screen and the furnishings were quite dated.”

  • Location to San Jose Airport.
  • They rented a the pool area to a local club for all of Sunday afternoon. Very loud.

“I would have been embarrassed had my mother been with me on this occasion...Others have been fine. Behind the check in counter is a large glass window over looking the pool area which had been rented out to a local club. Some girl was bent over grinding her rear end into some guys crouch. At a club fine...but not at a hotel like the Doubletree.

  • Pretty.
  • The smell, being charged for parking, no service in hotel cafe.

“This hotel looks like a new hotel, but feels like an old one. The service at the front desk is great, but expect to wait on yourself in the open breakfast/lunch cafe, springs. It's an ok hotel for business, or if you have kids, but I wouldn't stay here on vacation.”

  • The bed was comfortable.
  • Parking is $15, and there is no street parking or other free option.

“We found our room to be excellent. The bed was incredible, and I was able to get some much needed sleep. I had a flight first thing in the morning, and it was well under 10 minutes from hotel door to airport curbside. So I'll recommend this hotel, especially for business travelers.”

“My wife and I only stayed at the Doubletree for a few hours, but in that time we were impressed with the gracious staff, the warm chocolate chip cookies upon check in at 1 in the morning after seven hours in a car. The room was outstanding. Clean, comfortable, everything I expect from a hotel and more.”

“Overall, the hotel was ok. The decor is extremely outdated. Most hotels that I would consider 4 star offer free internet access, this one does not. It was especially discouraging since I am a Hilton Honors member, I had to pay for internet access (normally I do not get charged). The fitness center was excellent. I will probably not stay at this hotel again.”

  • Room was beautiful and large.
  • Restaurants close at 9:00 pm, room service at 10:00. Late arrival meant we did not eat.

“Lovely room, good location, but really set up for large business meetings, not for personal travel. Hideous cafe (dingy green, with the personality of a bad train station) in a sort-of outsized hallway. Arrived after 9:00 pm on a Saturday night and could not eat - restaurant had closed at 9:00, room service had shut down at 10:00 pm, even the gift shop was closed, so no snacks, etc. Bar was jammed, probably because it was the only place open, but understaffed, so service was slow and not very good. Would not stay there again.”

  • The hotel staff was very nice.
  • Our room had a mysterious large wet spot on the floor that we did not discover until we took our shoes off at bed time.

“We had a good stay with the exception of the mysterious wet floor. We had returned from a concert at about 11 PM and didn't want to re-pack to move rooms at the late hour, It was a one night stay so we just avoided that 1/3 or the foam.”

  • Poor location. Fee parking. Booming music at pool party.

“I had to drive my car to pay parking. Between the hotel parking and the event parking it was $30/day. The staff was all very friendly. The pool party had awful music with strong bass, which vibrated the room. Definitely not a four star hotel. It is fading. The carpets are old.”

“I can see where this was probably a top notch hotel when it was built or remodeled but it is due for another update. The rooms were okay but compared with the Santa Clara Marriott they were definitely lacking. The rooms are clean and large enough, just not up to date. They need contemporary color, furnishing, large screen TV's, granite, the works!”

  • The central pool, and club max.
  • Parking on your own really is not an option.

“I love this hotel, it is pool and it is club. I love to dance and club Max was very well done. My kids love the pool and Jacuzzi. The rooms were excellent.”

  • The hostess at spencers (the steakhouse at the doubletree).

“Saturday night, the hostess at spencers (the steakhouse at the doubletree) was very rude she never ever said a word to me or my family when we were checking in, someone on the wait staff helped us and then after dinner. I stated thank you 3 times to her; looking at her the last 2 times each time wondering why she was not responding. I guess I will never know. The overall experience was great if not for this 1 individual.”
