• The location was wonderful, quiet, calm, with panoramic views of Santa Cruz and ocean.
• After our credit card being charged, hotel applied additional $16.00 per night. Unlocked hallway doors.

“We stayed in the mid-week. It was very quiet, calm and the panoramic views from the main terraces were spectacular. The room was large and very comfortable. The grounds were beautifully landscaped. It was a great getaway. I enjoyed the serenity.”

• Lounge was comfortable and had great view.

“Chaminade is a great place for a conference but not what I'd call a luxury resort. Our room was just okay - small with minimum amenities. The walls were thin and noise from neighbors was distracting. The view from the room and from the patio was of the parking lot so we didn't sit outside and kept our shades drawn. It would have been nice to have wine glasses in the room. The area was heavily wooded and beautiful. Quiet and serene (except for the noise at night from our neighbors).”

• Very comfortable bed, nice linens, nice hot tub.
• Walls were thin, no elevator.

“Older facility but nicely renovated. Large room with dining area but no refrigerator. Very comfortable bed with nice linens. On a busier stay noise could be an annoyance as the walls seemed thin. Hot tub was clean and hot! Situated just inside the forest
- we saw deer grazing by the pool.”

• Staff very friendly and accomodating.. The setting and grounds, excellent.
• Mildew on the bathroom tiles and walls. The feather bed had quills sticking out into the sheets making it very uncomfotable to sleep,

“The hotel staff, view, grounds and and room decorations were excellent. We changed rooms because my husband wanted a forest facing room. They gave us a handicap room which had mold and mildew on the bathroom floor tiles and walls. Totally unacceptable.”

• There were cloths left in our room, we changed rooms 3 times.

“The staff was moderately helpful when we complained about cloths being left in our room as we checked in. We were then moved to a new room which was not a 2nd floor room as we had requested, and then we were asked to move again to a different room down the block. It was very inconvenient and the room we finally ended up in smelt like pot and cigarettes.”

• Spacious, great scenery, quiet, and secluded.
• The hotel staff were rather pretentious.

“Loved that it was a very secluded resort. Scenery was remarkable. Great place to stay with kids. Enjoyed sitting on the back porch with the family. Comparable to a home away from home. Very relaxing and would absolutely go back again.”

• The location is secluded but easily accessed, very well run,friendly and helpful staff.
• There was some renovation being done at 8:00am which was ab noxious.

• the staff was excellent. It was quiet.
• The rooms had spider webs. we had to ask to have the room cleaned every day.

“I am upset that I was not told upfront that there was a resort fee of 16.00 per night. I asked if I was all paid up and the registration assistant said yes, I was all paid up no more fees. Then I get a charge on my credit card of 40.30. I would have been fine if someone told me upfront.”

• Surpisingly luxurious and felt like you were staying in a private villa.

  microwave in the room and unfortunately wifi is not free!

I expected.
My wife also had an excellent facial experience except for the receptionist who wasn't as friendly, otherwise, overall the total experience was 5 star!”

• It looks over the city of Santa Cruz. Great views, spa and resort.
• Had to pay for the Internet.

“The hotel is a spa and resort and has all the items that you expect with that. There are hiking trails, good restaurants, a bar with a great view overlooking Santa Cruz, tennis courts, beautiful decoration, etc.”

“Unfortunately I did not stay very long. I was up there for a graduation, didn't arrive at hotel till very late and left early in the morning. We had a beautiful scenic room which was very very nice. I would love to go back and enjoy the spa, room and hiking some other time.”

“We had a fabulous romantic getaway. The staff is so friendly we ate breakfast at the restaurant on site is was wonderful. Every night we had cocktails, fabulous staff in bar/lounge. Even in the rain it was so beautiful. The con was the hall was very noisy, you could hear everything going on. Also, the charge for everything, for instance to park there. The resort is up in the hills, where else are you to park ($16.00 a day)!”

“I had been to this hotel many years ago. I was so terribly disappointed this time. Ants all over the toilet, we changed to another room that was an adjoining room. The next door neighbor had three noisy children and the walls were paper thin. We could literally hear their entire conversation. Our second room had silverfish bugs in the bathtub. The room was poorly decorated and in general, it was a very unpleasant stay. We tried to get a 1:00 checkout (1 extra hour) and were told no. After all that we tolerated, they would not give us one extra hour.”

• Great pool, clean rooms, fantastic restaurant and a view to die for.
• Bathroom had a strange smell. Security guys asking to many questions.

“We stayed here for 3 nights, updated rooms, saline pool, lobby is beautiful, restaurant was the best meal I had on vacation. But, better that all that was the staff. Our server in the restaurant was a pleasure and everyone from the front door guys to the people that give you a ride from your room to the lobby were all fantastic. I would stay here again.”

“My gripe is with upper management. The staff is all perfect -- however they need to help give the outstanding staff by giving them a hotel & spa they can be proud of. Devil is in the details-- you need to make sure that they have the resources to fix the peeling wallpaper, burned out light bulbs and the broken electrical outlets in the facility. The place needs to be renovated!”

“A. They originally gave us the wrong room. B. Our power went out twice. C. The taxi we had them call for dinner never came. D. The alarm radio was not turned off from the previous people and went off at 6:00am. E. At 7:00am the front desk called and said our taxi was there even though we never wanted one in the morning.”

• The grounds are beautiful.
• The restaurant food was terrible.

“Unfortunately, our stay at this hotel was totally ruined by the maintenance staff using leaf blowers at 8 in the morning. They were right outside our room and awakened us, ruining our planned sleep in late morning. After an hour of incessant noise, I called the front desk and the took another 15 minutes to stop the noise.”

“This facility is hidden away in the beautiful wooded area off the main highway. There is a wonderful hiking path located behind the bungalows on the right side of the property. The lobby staff was very friendly and eager to assist us with everything and anything. The room was spacious and quite comfortable. The peaceful surroundings made it a wonderful place to relax and escape. ”

• I loved the spacious room and the luxurious bedding. The bathroom was gorgeous!
• Parking is limited near the rooms.

• The facility was immaculate, attractive and hidden away from busy streets.
• The hiking trail lacked color. The grounds surrounding it are in need of flowers.

“The facility is hidden away from the main streets, nestled between beautiful trees and Nature. There is a hiking trail, swimming pool, volleyball court and restaurant, along with a spa. The staff members were friendly and eager to assist. The grounds are well manicured with beautiful landscaping. The room was nicely furnished and decorated, providing a nice sitting area and additional area for dining or working. Included in the room were an iron, hairdryer, coffee maker and television for convenient use. My guest and I were very impressed with the facility and will stay again in the future.”

• Great spa and workout facility.
• We had a water main over the entrance of the room that ran continuously for the entire stay, hotel staff was not accommodating.

“The hotel Shaminade in Santa Cruz is a very beautiful facility, it's an easy trip to the sites and beaches of Santa Cruz making it a wonderful choice to stay, it lacks a few items that makes it a perfect place to stay (refrigerator, microwave, internet) the room was good size, the beds were wonderful but the bathroom was very small and very plain for the classification of this hotel, plus there were no menu's in the room for the hotel restaurant and I was disappointed in the quality of the towels comparing with the same class of hotel in other locations. Plus we had a water main running at full throttle over our door the entire time; I had to turn on the a/c fan to "drown" out the sound to sleep. After bringing this to the attention of the front desk staff, we were offered a free buffet breakfast if we could get there in 15 minutes. I thanked her but that short time was not possible. I am sure I have not been the only one to question the noise in this room, when checking out I discovered it was next door to a Service room with all the fire safety equipment.”

“I was really put off by the $15 facility charge and phoned the front desk to complain. They said it was to cover gym use, gratuities, parking, bath products, etc. I told them I would not use the gym, charging for parking and bath products was unreasonable and that I preferred to pay my own gratuities. They deleted the charge after I asked to speak with the manager. Otherwise, the stay was pleasant and the bed was fabulous.”

“This hotel was aesthetically wonderful with it¿s refer. Would have been nice if they would have included small fridges in their upgrade. There is plenty of space in the closet next to the sink for this. And the single cup coffee maker was a nice thought but not practical. Otherwise the safe was great and prompt. The location was quiet and easily accessible. Would definitely book again.”

• The staff was trained perfectly in customer service! They made you feel welcome and that your needs were all that mattered.
• Beds- we stayed in two rooms during our stay both beds were saggy and uncomfortable even with feather toppers.

“Great location, clean and well decorated rooms, best staff I¿ve ever met (we stay in hotels often), great pool, fitness center and restaurants. If possible request a room with a forest view. Best advice I can give is bring your own towels there are very inexpensive.”
