“We stayed in the mid-week. It was very quiet, calm and the panoramic views from the main terraces were spectacular. The room was large and very comfortable. The grounds were beautifully landscaped. It was a great getaway. I enjoyed the serenity.” Oct 28, 2009 by
Gary from Alamo,CA
“Chaminade is a great place for a conference but not what I'd call a luxury resort. Our room was just okay - small with minimum amenities. The walls were thin and noise from neighbors was distracting. The view from the room and from the patio was of the parking lot so we didn't sit outside and kept our shades drawn. It would have been nice to have wine glasses in the room. The area was heavily wooded and beautiful. Quiet and serene (except for the noise at night from our neighbors).” Oct 25, 2009 by
Rose from St. Augustine,FL
“Older facility but nicely renovated. Large room with dining area but no refrigerator. Very comfortable bed with nice linens. On a busier stay noise could be an annoyance as the walls seemed thin. Hot tub was clean and hot! Situated just inside the forest Oct 4, 2009 by
Loretta from San Mateo,CA
“The hotel staff, view, grounds and and room decorations were excellent. We changed rooms because my husband wanted a forest facing room. They gave us a handicap room which had mold and mildew on the bathroom floor tiles and walls. Totally unacceptable.” Oct 1, 2009 by
Hope from Carlsbad,CA
“Beautiful property, nice room. Try to get a room with a patio view to the outside parking lot.” Sep 24, 2009 by
Rhonda-- from Vallejo,CA
“It is the best get a way place I've ever been, and will come again.” Sep 18, 2009 by
Collin from Bend,OR
“The staff was moderately helpful when we complained about cloths being left in our room as we checked in. We were then moved to a new room which was not a 2nd floor room as we had requested, and then we were asked to move again to a different room down the block. It was very inconvenient and the room we finally ended up in smelt like pot and cigarettes.” Aug 30, 2009 by
Sherry from St. Simons Island,GA
“This hotel was great. I really enjoyed the spa.” Aug 29, 2009 by
Rachael from Stockton,CA
“Loved that it was a very secluded resort. Scenery was remarkable. Great place to stay with kids. Enjoyed sitting on the back porch with the family. Comparable to a home away from home. Very relaxing and would absolutely go back again.” Aug 28, 2009 by
don from Sacto,CA
“This hotel has a lot to offer its guests. The fitness facility and spa are very accommodating to guests. the heated salt water swimming pool is great.” Aug 14, 2009 by
Jonie from Auburn,CA
“I am upset that I was not told upfront that there was a resort fee of 16.00 per night. I asked if I was all paid up and the registration assistant said yes, I was all paid up no more fees. Then I get a charge on my credit card of 40.30. I would have been fine if someone told me upfront.” Aug 2, 2009 by
Ray from Tualatin,OR
“Excellent and classy decor and clean! though you have to pay for a hotel service fee, the pool and exercise facilities are more than Jul 12, 2009 by

“Very nice accomadations - the workout area was one of the best. Quiet room and friendly staff.” Jul 6, 2009 by

“The hotel is a spa and resort and has all the items that you expect with that. There are hiking trails, good restaurants, a bar with a great view overlooking Santa Cruz, tennis courts, beautiful decoration, etc.” Jun 20, 2009 by
Celia from Simi Valley,CA
“Unfortunately I did not stay very long. I was up there for a graduation, didn't arrive at hotel till very late and left early in the morning. We had a beautiful scenic room which was very very nice. I would love to go back and enjoy the spa, room and hiking some other time.” Jun 20, 2009 by
Lynne from Sonora,CA
“Fabulous hotel especially for spa people. Kid friendly but not in the restaurants. This place has a fabulous view and is located close to Santacruz and capitola. Water pool and tennis courts. Would definitely stay again.” May 19, 2009 by
Paul from Vacaville,CA
“Overall, I enjoyed my stay here. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. The setting was beautiful.” May 7, 2009 by
Sheri from Novato,CA
“We had a fabulous romantic getaway. The staff is so friendly we ate breakfast at the restaurant on site is was wonderful. Every night we had cocktails, fabulous staff in bar/lounge. Even in the rain it was so beautiful. The con was the hall was very noisy, you could hear everything going on. Also, the charge for everything, for instance to park there. The resort is up in the hills, where else are you to park ($16.00 a day)!” Feb 18, 2009 by
Lisa from Manteca,CA
“I had been to this hotel many years ago. I was so terribly disappointed this time. Ants all over the toilet, we changed to another room that was an adjoining room. The next door neighbor had three noisy children and the walls were paper thin. We could literally hear their entire conversation. Our second room had silverfish bugs in the bathtub. The room was poorly decorated and in general, it was a very unpleasant stay. We tried to get a 1:00 checkout (1 extra hour) and were told no. After all that we tolerated, they would not give us one extra hour.” Feb 14, 2009 by
Chris from Poulsbo,WA
“Quiet, good location. room was comfortable and spacious. Staff was helpful. business center and internet enabled productive place to work. heated outdoor pool was a treat. one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in.” Jan 3, 2009 by
Luke from Santa Barbara,CA
“I thought I had extended my stay adding 12/24 per on-line. Some confusion at late night check-in but handled well by hotel staff. Turns out to have been my error.” Nov 21, 2008 by
Ted from Granite Bay,CA
“A $16.00 facility fee for a property with nearly no facilities seems like fraud to me.” Sep 4, 2008 by
E. S. from Sherwood, OR
“We stayed here for 3 nights, updated rooms, saline pool, lobby is beautiful, restaurant was the best meal I had on vacation. But, better that all that was the staff. Our server in the restaurant was a pleasure and everyone from the front door guys to the people that give you a ride from your room to the lobby were all fantastic. I would stay here again.” Sep 3, 2008 by
Tweedlebugb from San Francisco, CA
“My gripe is with upper management. The staff is all perfect -- however they need to help give the outstanding staff by giving them a hotel & spa they can be proud of. Devil is in the details-- you need to make sure that they have the resources to fix the peeling wallpaper, burned out light bulbs and the broken electrical outlets in the facility. The place needs to be renovated!” Sep 2, 2008 by
Deeanne from Lodi, CA
“The hotel room was good sized and clean. The location was away from town so took a little driving, but was fairly quiet so a reasonable trade off. Staff was very helpful and friendly.” Aug 24, 2008 by
Ranen from Walnut Creek, CA
“Very nice place. Our room was interesting and very clean.” Aug 20, 2008 by
Paige from Vacaville, CA
“I enjoyed the rooms and the patio off of the room was a nice touch. I thought the rooms were very nice and the feather beds. I thought they should have had min-fridges in the room.” Aug 16, 2008 by
Lisa from Vancouver, WA
“Beautiful historic hotel, not crazy expensive considering it is a resort with tennis, hiking trails, pool, sauna and convention center, full gym and yoga classes, volley ball net and sand, close drive to the beach, feels very safe.” Aug 14, 2008 by
M from Templeton, CA
“Lovely peaceful grounds, amazing shower, spacious rooms, very clean.” Aug 13, 2008 by
Shelly from Windsor, CA
“Over all it was a very enjoyable experience. The hotel is very nice and the employees are all very friendly and helpful.” Aug 13, 2008 by
Jessica from San Jose, CA
“When I plan on going to Santa Cruz again I will stay at this hotel and recommend it to all my friends. Really enjoyed my stay.” Aug 8, 2008 by
Agnes from American Canyon, CA
“Beautiful hotel recently refurbished. The feather beds were very comfortable. The spa was very nice with a large room to exercise in as well as a heated pool right outside. The staff was very friendly and very helpful. I would love to stay at this hotel again!” Jul 31, 2008 by
Erin from Alameda, CA
“A. They originally gave us the wrong room. B. Our power went out twice. C. The taxi we had them call for dinner never came. D. The alarm radio was not turned off from the previous people and went off at 6:00am. E. At 7:00am the front desk called and said our taxi was there even though we never wanted one in the morning.” Jul 22, 2008 by
Kathy from Fresno, CA
“Based on the reviews, which were poor, but had stated how some remodeling was taking place, I took a chance and am very glad that I did. It was a wonderful place to stay. Very comfortable, felt like I was in a country setting. Would definitely stay there again and in fact have plans to do so!” Apr 17, 2008 by
Kimberly from Milpitas, CA
“The landscaping was beautiful and the staff was wonderful. My husband and I are planning another trip away and our first choice will be the Chained.” Jun 14, 2007 by
David from Los Altos, CA
“Unfortunately, our stay at this hotel was totally ruined by the maintenance staff using leaf blowers at 8 in the morning. They were right outside our room and awakened us, ruining our planned sleep in late morning. After an hour of incessant noise, I called the front desk and the took another 15 minutes to stop the noise.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Jun 2, 2007 by

“Chained is a gem of a hotel.” Jun 1, 2007 by

“What a wonderful experience. Took my 21 year old daughter with me for a "girls week-end" and we had a great time. I will be taking my husband on our anniversary.” May 30, 2007 by
Danielle from Rohnert Park, CA
“Our stay was great! The staff was very friendly and the location was private and quiet with a beautiful scenery. Pool and hot tub were very refreshing and clean as well as the rest of the property. Will definitely come back!” May 24, 2007 by
Jennifer from Los Angeles
“This facility is hidden away in the beautiful wooded area off the main highway. There is a wonderful hiking path located behind the bungalows on the right side of the property. The lobby staff was very friendly and eager to assist us with everything and anything. The room was spacious and quite comfortable. The peaceful surroundings made it a wonderful place to relax and escape. ” May 4, 2007 by
Roger from El Cajon, CA
“Unique hotel with very good service, very attractive rooms and facilities. Probably a bit quiet if someone was to desire night life, etc. Overall, excellent.” May 2, 2007 by
Allisan from Turlock, CA
“The chained is definitely worth trying out. The rooms give you a relaxing, luxurious feeling from the moment you step in the door. The cleanliness of the rooms is spectacular. The pool was fun for me, my husband and my children. ” May 2, 2007 by
Jennifer from Monterey Park, CA
“The facility is hidden away from the main streets, nestled between beautiful trees and Nature. There is a hiking trail, swimming pool, volleyball court and restaurant, along with a spa. The staff members were friendly and eager to assist. The grounds are well manicured with beautiful landscaping. The room was nicely furnished and decorated, providing a nice sitting area and additional area for dining or working. Included in the room were an iron, hairdryer, coffee maker and television for convenient use. My guest and I were very impressed with the facility and will stay again in the future.” May 1, 2007 by
Bud from Rancho Cordova, CA
“The hotel Shaminade in Santa Cruz is a very beautiful facility, it's an easy trip to the sites and beaches of Santa Cruz making it a wonderful choice to stay, it lacks a few items that makes it a perfect place to stay (refrigerator, microwave, internet) the room was good size, the beds were wonderful but the bathroom was very small and very plain for the classification of this hotel, plus there were no menu's in the room for the hotel restaurant and I was disappointed in the quality of the towels comparing with the same class of hotel in other locations. Plus we had a water main running at full throttle over our door the entire time; I had to turn on the a/c fan to "drown" out the sound to sleep. After bringing this to the attention of the front desk staff, we were offered a free buffet breakfast if we could get there in 15 minutes. I thanked her but that short time was not possible. I am sure I have not been the only one to question the noise in this room, when checking out I discovered it was next door to a Service room with all the fire safety equipment.” Apr 27, 2007 by
Deborah from Davis, CA
“I was really put off by the $15 facility charge and phoned the front desk to complain. They said it was to cover gym use, gratuities, parking, bath products, etc. I told them I would not use the gym, charging for parking and bath products was unreasonable and that I preferred to pay my own gratuities. They deleted the charge after I asked to speak with the manager. Otherwise, the stay was pleasant and the bed was fabulous.” Apr 27, 2007 by
Megan from San Francisco, CA
“Nice staff; pretty location; fairly nice remodel, but old doors in room, dirty base boards, etc, revealed that the room still had some shabbiness to it.” Apr 24, 2007 by
Bryan from Antelope, CA
“Very nice for area and staff very friendly and helpful. Rooms clean and quiet.” Apr 20, 2007 by
Frank from Honolulu, HI
“This hotel was aesthetically wonderful with it¿s refer. Would have been nice if they would have included small fridges in their upgrade. There is plenty of space in the closet next to the sink for this. And the single cup coffee maker was a nice thought but not practical. Otherwise the safe was great and prompt. The location was quiet and easily accessible. Would definitely book again.” Apr 18, 2007 by
S from Ukiah, CA
“Great location, clean and well decorated rooms, best staff I¿ve ever met (we stay in hotels often), great pool, fitness center and restaurants. If possible request a room with a forest view. Best advice I can give is bring your own towels there are very inexpensive.” Apr 18, 2007 by
Debbie from Sacramento, CA
“It was so easy. The hotel exceeded my expectations. I felt like we had special star treatment! ”
