“This did not meet my expectations of a Hilton. It felt more like a motel 8 with a Hilton facade slapped onto it. For such an out-of-the-way hotel (only close to the Oakland airport). I was surprised that parking was so expensive - we had to pay every time we left the lot, although getting this put onto the room's bill was convenient. It also surprised me how expensive the internet connection was ($11.95 per day), especially since they didn't offer wireless connectivity. To overcome this, I plugged in my laptop and setup an ad hoc wireless network for my wife to use.”

  • Safe and easy parking.
  • No wireless internet in room. Wired internet with short chord and expensive daily charge.

“This hotel is easy to get too. Parking is gated and secure. Staff is very helpful. My only problem was that there is no wireless internet, and the wired internet uses a short wire that only reaches the desk, and there is an expensive daily charge. That seems like a problem for a 4-star hotel wanting to reach business clients.”

  • The shuttle drivers will take you to the BART or airport.
  • The French onion soup was blah.

“This is a good hotel if you need to be close to the airport. It was a bit inconvenient for the work I had to do in Downtown Oakland. The taxi cost $30 each way, so instead I had to take the once-hourly hotel shuttle to the BART, and then take the BART. Big pain. I should have just stayed in San Francisco.”

“I use this hotel often when I fly for the park and fly option. I feel safer in this hotel and the comfort is above average. I can't say enough about the quality of food in the restaurant and for room service. Over the years I am impressed with the choices, the portions and the quality. Your chef deserves applause. I don't particularly care for the sports bar or the service there. Have been there several times. Not as good service there. That is about the only thing wrong with the food service. (Sports bar).”

  • The bed was very comfortable.
  • There is an extra charge for everything from parking to internet access, so the overall price is far higher than the one quoted.

“I felt as though I was being nickel and dimmed. Even the Wi-Fi in the lobby had an additional charge. I've stayed at other 3-star hotels in the same area that were just as clean with courteous people, that offered full buffet breakfasts and free internet as well as free parking. To top it off, we were placed in a room right next to the soda machine that hummed constantly. In any case, I'll never stay at Hilton again as long as I can help it! (I'm a *very* frequent traveler with plenty of hotel experience.).”

  • Avoid contact with them except check in. Room remodeled recently.
  • Outdoor pool. No jacuzzi, microwave, fridge. Nickel and Dime for 2.5 stars.

“I had better experience with Holiday Inn and Best Western, because they have free breakfast, HDTV, free internet, Jacuzzi, free local calls, free parking, etc. Which are what I'm looking for when traveling. This Hilton and most Hilton brands don't have much amenities. If they have it, they will charge a fee. Not a small fee, but a high fee. $12 for Internet a day; $8 for parking a day, $5 for bottle water.”

“The service was extremely disappointing and the amenities came at a cost. I have read Conrad Hilton's book, "Be My Guest", and I think the GM at this hotel (or maybe all of the Hilton GM s) need to re-read this book and, as an organization, remember what is important in the hospitality industry. They automatically put us in their least desirable rooms, which meant smoking rooms in building 5. I felt like I was going into a low-class dive. When we asked for non-smoking rooms they said they had none available; however, they put the last arriving party of our group in a non-smoking room probably because he checked in at almost midnight and they still had some available.”

  • Lack of response from front desk regarding dirty glass.

“Very disappointing. The hotel could have been nice if the staff cared, but they obviously don't. It is so basic to have hot water for the shower, and clean drinking glasses. Even after delivering the former occupants dried toothpaste in the dirty glass to the front desk, no replacement ever arrived. No additional tea bag after the first one used on day one. After standing in a slightly warm shower and having it go completely cold over a three minute period, the front desk advised they "had been having problems". No "sorry", no explanation of when it might improve.”

  • Eight dollars a day for parking, twelve dollars a day for full price customers to use wireless. Quiznos has free internet, surely the Hilton can?

  • Friendly and helpful staff. Nazir in the breakfast room was excellent. Cletus the concierge was outstanding!
  • Breakfast was only buffet-style; I'd like to have been able to see a menu and order my preferences.

  • The room was not clean and had a very bad odor.

“Our room was not clean and had a very bad odor. The bathroom sink was filthy when we got in the room, the coffee cups had not been washed after the previous guests!We would have changed rooms but while we were having breakfast at Denny's someone smashed our car window.We could not get it fixed until we got home. The area is not safe and the room we were in did allow us to keep an eye on our car. Friends stayed down the street at the Courtyard by Marriott for less then we payed and it was a very nice place!”

  • My son lives in Oakland Hills and it is convenient for us. The card table is a plus!
  • Parking should be included with your stay.

“I and my friends from San Diego come up to visit my grandchildren at UCSF and my young son in Oakland Hills. We now feel like it is 'home'. I was delighted, when they were coming to visit and we asked for a card table. It was there in less than half an hour! I will always come back, and bring my friends!”

“Hilton is usually a great brand--but one trip always proves you wrong. The hotel was located conveniently near the airport, checkout was quick, and had a comfortable bed with lots of pillows and that is where the good review ends. They messed up my parking voucher so I had to get out in the rain twice to get my car in and out. They just sort of pointed to the general direction of the building when I asked where I was staying, and then the outside door was jammed so I got caught in the rain for 5 minutes until I forced it open. When I went back to the front desk to ask about a local place to catch a movie, they had no idea and gave me general directions (in Oakland, general isn't good enough) to the theater--so I stayed home. Parking was terrible up front (all the 15 minute spots taken over--and no one at the front desk checking in--people just parked there and left their cars because the lot was so full). The room had basic cable, the shower had a pubic hair on the clothes line, the towel had what appeared to be a "streak" from a generous wipe to a former guest's backside and the second towel had a long black hair wrapped in it. Anyone can make a mistake--and in fairness the hair may have been washed and the pubic hair was small--but hey, all three together made me wash my hands a hundred times until I left the room.”

“Great for overnight stay before going to the airport. Location to Oakland Airport is awesome-takes less than 5 minutes by hotel shuttle! They'll let you park your car onsite while you are away; charge is less than economy parking at the airport. When you return, just call the hotel and they will come pick you up (runs every 20 minutes). Room is good size. Would stay again.”

“Great place but does not qualify as a 3 star. It is more of a 2.5 star. Security is really an issue. I observed some negative elements in the parking lot and saw some objectionable "ladies" walking around in the hallway. I did report this to the front desk but never heard from them.”

  • Room had some unpleasant smells when first entering.

“Shuttle runs from Oakland airport every 20 minutes. Check in was relatively quick, but could not check in before 3pm. Room was on the first floor and had a slight smell upon entering. A/c worked well, room was large, and bed was comfortable. Hallways had some room service from earlier in the day that was not cleaned until much later. Hotel still charges for internet 9.95 per day. Shuttle also runs to the Bart station every hour on the hour. You must call them for a ride back. Overall a good experience, but definitely not worth it if you pay the published rates.”

  • The beds at the Hilton are to die for. Sometimes I do not even want to leave the room.
  • I think parking should be free even though the daily rate of six dollars is reasonable. Oh and there should be more cable channels.

“Overall stay at the Hilton was excellent. I stayed there last year for one night and just had to stay there again this time. It's in a perfect location to the train station, restaurants, airport and freeway. Once you pass the train station though the area looks a bit unsafe. Don't be alarmed! Be sure to get a boil corn from the Mexican vendors on international blvd. (e 14th).”

  • The room was nice and clean.
  • The staff was slow to respond and confused. No two people gave you the same answer to anything.

“The rooms are nice the hotel is clean. Be careful when selecting a room here if you do not smoke. If you don't explicitly tell them you want a no smoking room they will automatically put you in a smoking room. And if you need help at the front desk to resolve any issues they will keep you on hold (in my case for 25 minutes). I once needed someone to let me in my room and it about 20 minutes for someone to come by. When I called the desk back to ask for a status they stated that the person was in the lobby. I was calling from the lobby and the person wasn't there. To sum it up; the facility is nice, but the staff needs some work.”

“It rained the night we stayed on the ground floor. I got up in the am with bare feet to a soaking wet floor, that water had backed in through the wall. Not a pleasant experience on a cold morning. It soaked my business papers in a briefcase and some of our clothes also.”

  • I like how easy it is to check in. Once I get to my room it's always so neat and everything crisp and white. Love the bed and the pool table.
  • The only thing I didnt like was the parking situation. I paid and still was charged on my credit card.

  • The hotel staff was very pleasant.
  • Room smelled from smokers - older amenities.

“Staff was very attentive and pleasant. Room was adequate however amenities were lacking and cramped especially the bathroom. The room had a funny odor as if they had attempted to change a smoking room into a non-smoking room. It just doesn't work.”

  • Convenient check-in, parking, distance to room.
  • Air flow-- managing temperature and bedding comfort.

“This hotel demonstrates that airport-adjacent properties can survive as cash-flow cows, whether or not they offer anything that is excellent. This made for an "all right" experience, just because we were quickly passing through.”
