“Beautiful hotel in beautiful location. I would stay there again. I was caught off guard at checkout that a resort fee would be added. That was not told up front and really should just be in the price in the first place.” Jun 15, 2009 by
Don from Bakersfield,CA
“Nice hotel, our room had a view of the bay and the Golden Gate Bridge. Great tennis courts, pools and gym facilities. We didn't use the restaurants but they looked nice. Staff were friendly and helpful.” May 25, 2009 by
Karin from Santa Barbara,CA
“I would recommend this hotel to anyone who does not want to be downtown SFO. The view from their restaurant and most of the rooms I have stayed in were superb.” Apr 24, 2009 by
from Highland,CA
“The Claremont is old world charm in the hills of Berkeley, with convenient access to UC Berkeley. Our room was big enough for a king sized bed plus a rollaway (provided at no charge). The bed and bath were separated by a small hallway which made the room feel suite-like. Very professional staff, gorgeous decor, and I loved that the lemon grass and eucalyptus scent from the spa permeated the lobby. A very beautiful and elegant hotel.” Apr 23, 2009 by
Kelly from Lawrenceville,GA
“The resort was highly rated, but I did not experience the spa resort. The rooms were old and dusty. There was a old wooden door that led to the building's pipes and structure. I would not recommend if you are looking for a comfortable room.” Apr 16, 2009 by
Jennifer from Santa Maria,CA
“This is a beautiful hotel located in the perfect location for our travels. It is close to UC Berkley and some relatives we visit. The grounds are very well kept and the views from the restaurant are wonderful. Would definitely stay there again.” Apr 4, 2009 by
Bill from Oak Ridge,TN
“The hotel added a $25 a night use of facility fee (business trip could not use it) and a $25 a night parking fee.” Mar 17, 2009 by
Stephanie from Signal Mountain,TN
“The Claremont Resort is a beautiful hotel featuring spacious clean rooms, several dining options, a beautiful pool, tennis courts and fitness center including spa with sauna, whirlpool and steam room, as well as free group classes. Additionally, a second spa facility is available offering steam, whirlpool and a variety of spa treatments. I enjoyed my stay there and would stay there again.” Mar 16, 2009 by
Bonnie from Victor, NY
“I had the most incredibly relaxing and rejuvenating stay at the Claremont. I was a guest for six nights and each and every day was special. The staff was always warm and helpful and my room was spacious and spotless clean. I enjoyed daily yoga classes at the workout center. The WiFi which was helpful because I needed to stay connected while I was in my little sanctuary away from home. I left feeling rested and alive again! I would recommend this hotel to everyone and can't wait to return.” Mar 5, 2009 by
Mary from Whittier,CA
“The Claremont Hotel is historic, elegant and ideally located. The service was excellent and staff was professional and friendly. I would highly recommend this hotel.” Feb 26, 2009 by
Geoff from San Diego,CA “I was very unhappy when they charged an additional mandatory $24 called a resort charge. Combined with the $24 for parking.” Jan 13, 2009 by
Hans from L.A,CA
“If you want a generic cookie cutter experience stay in Starwoods hotels/chain hotels. This is like an old European estate/castle. The place is old rooms are old but the charm and the view surpass the sterilized cold chain hotels. The swimming pools are fantastic in the middle of winter/gym/massage and the spa especially massages are probably some of the best qualified in” Nov 1, 2008 by

“The long walks from the parking lot, gaudy decoration and location would have been perfect. But for a business traveler it just made it inconvenient.

“This hotel is the biggest joke I have ever seen. They call themselves a 4 star resort, but all it really is a overpriced, old dump. The rooms are small, they stink, and the beds are small and uncomfortable. The hotel charges $24 a night to park. The parking lot is small and always full, so there is no place to park. The people at the front desk were rude, and I was very disappointed with my stay there. I did enjoy the friendly valet workers though. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone.

“The hotel was nice and in a nice neighborhood, we stayed there to attend a concert at Berkeley's Greek Theatre which was in walking distance. The hotel staff front desk staff was a little snooty and the hotel charged ridiculous prices for parking.” Sep 10, 2008 by
Diane from Mckinleyville, CA
“The Claremont is gorgeous and in a great location, but watch out for extra charges.” Sep 7, 2008 by
Gene from Roscoe, IL
“The hotel smelled bad real bad like old but this fell more in the decrepit category!” Sep 6, 2008 by
Vitaliy from Antelope, CA
“Would not stay at this hotel ever again.” Sep 4, 2008 by
Bob from Reno, NV
“We've admired the Claremont Resort for years, having grown up in the Oakland hills. We were in the Bay Area to attend the Cal football game on Saturday and celebrate my birthday on Sunday. Our experience at the hotel was outstanding. Our room was small, but elegant, with rustic touches you'd expect in a historic hotel. The bed was very comfortable and the large shower was wonderful. The staff was friendly and the self-parking was very convenient. My wife likes to swim, but she found the pool teeming with so many people that it was impossible to swim. At breakfast on Monday morning we found the food in the breakfast buffet to be rather ordinary with few choices beyond the usual scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, fruit and cereal. Having grown up in the Oakland hills, I've probably driven by the Claremont thousands of times. I had my high school senior ball there and my thirtieth high school reunion. But this is the first time we've stayed there and it was a very enjoyable experience.” Sep 3, 2008 by

“Dont forget to bring more money.” Sep 2, 2008 by
Steve from Mckinleyville, CA
“When our room was too warm, the management moved us to a much nicer, larger room. That was great. Good walking neighborhoods and a variety of restaurants within a mile or so. Beautiful grounds, but the additional fees were an unpleasant surprise.” Aug 31, 2008 by
Steven from Westport, CT
“First room view was looking at the kitchen exhaust vents and second room AC wasn't working. Service did react slower than was told. Once my room was settled, the overall experience was fine though I am not too likely to go back. Though renovated (supposedly), hotel still has that dated look to it.” Aug 24, 2008 by
Suzanne from Pasadena, CA
“Probably the nicest hotel, convenient to most of Berkeley, although the one on the Marina is great too. Like most Spa-oriented hotels, they think a little more highly of themselves than I think is warranted, but it really is a lovely facility. Breakfast was good although they brought me no spoon for my oatmeal. But I'm whining - really, it was comfortable and clean and convenient and we would stay again.” Aug 23, 2008 by
Sharon from Oakland, CA
“I was very disappointed to discover my hotel bill was increased by $24.00 with a resort fee. The resort fee and services were not optional. Also parking was $25.00.” Aug 21, 2008 by
Bonnie from Laguna Hills, CA
“Additional fees apply for resort facilities, but the pool, spa and tennis was worth it. Great location for access to SF and Napa area.” Aug 16, 2008 by
Lisa from Reno, NV
“Very beautiful hotel, with great views. Bathrooms need to be remodeled as the linoleum and tube tile were worn, as were the mirrors. Bed was comfortable, lobby was amazing.” Aug 14, 2008 by
Thomas from Fresno, CA
“I was very surprised about this hotel.” Aug 14, 2008 by
David from Pahrump, NV
“Historic charm but definitely not 5 stars.” Aug 13, 2008 by
Tye from Sacramento, CA
“We had a beautiful time. The dinner was great.” Aug 4, 2008 by
Ml from Carlsbad, CA
“The Claremont Hotel added on a $24 facility fee. The hotel common spaces were beautiful. The room was spacious with two very comfortable beds. No tub in the bathroom, but nice shower. Valet parking was approximately $25 per day. Adequate hotel restaurant.” Aug 4, 2008 by
Ross from Palo Alto, CA
“Excellent hotel. Getting a high end room is essential. Spa is overpriced for services delivered. Restaurants are excellent.” Aug 1, 2008 by
Deborah from Whitethorn, CA
“We have always loved the Claremont. Their facilities and location are second to none in Berkeley. We were told the room came with a king bed but this room could not have accommodated a king bed. The room was clean and tidy but again, very cramped. Not sure we would ever do this again.” Aug 1, 2008 by
Larry from Folsom, CA
“Nice hotel, awful room. Just awful.” Jul 31, 2008 by
Marcia from Novato, CA
“While I do expect parking charges, we were also charged a resort fee which was a surprise and a disappointment - I think that all fees related to staying at the hotel (we did not even use the resort facilities). As expected, they put us in a less-desirable room location, which I usually don't mind, but we were awakened by housekeeping at 7:00 am!” Jul 30, 2008 by
Odette from Rancho Cucamonga, CA
“We were very disappointed in the hotel. After many years of travel all over the world, it was the first time we were asked to pay $30 per person to allow our guests to use the swimming pool (this is on top of our daily $24 resort fee). We were told we could not sit on the patio at Jordan's for cocktails because lunch was still being served, even though there were plenty of open tables. And the waiter took well over fifteen minutes to take our order. Finally, for the final coup de grace, the wall in our room rattled every five minutes, our bed was extremely uncomfortable, and the tub just refused to drain.” Jul 24, 2008 by
Tigi from Merced, CA
“There were so many extra costs in staying at the Claremont that it was almost funny. $24 to park per night when there was street parking available. (we only parked one out of the two nights there) $24 facility use per day which seems ridiculous to use things like the pool, gym and sauna. It seems it should be included in the price. Also, an additional $15 per person to use the tennis courts. Although this place was supposed to be luxury, our hot water in the shower kept going cold. It was very irritating to be charged for everything and not have the basics working. The internet was extremely slow and the front desk explained that a lot of guests were logging on. Shouldn't a hotel that charges this much have internet that can accommodate their guests. I guess a lot of guests were also taking hot showers at the same time. I would never stay here again or recommend anyone staying here.” Jul 21, 2008 by
Dave from Appleton, WI
“This is a wonderful place to stay. Situated on the hill overlooking the Bay Bridge and downtown San Francisco. Great turn of the century feel with lots of history. Gives you that relaxed country feel while only minutes from the city.” Jul 19, 2008 by
Mike from Lacey, WA
“Very nice hotel with a beautiful view of San Francisco. Great location near UC Berkeley, downtown Oakland and across the bay from San Francisco. The hotel is big and very impressive looking. On the downside there was an unannounced resort fee of $25.00 a day and charged for parking, $24.00 a day, without being told beforehand.” Jul 18, 2008 by
Kristyin from Coto De Caza, CA
“Wonderful place to be regardless of being anywhere on the property. Best place that I have ever been in on the east side of the bay.” Jul 16, 2008 by
Joanna from San Francisco, CA
“The Claremont makes a wonderful weekend getaway. The room was small but charming with a nice view of trees. The pool was great and we enjoyed the live music in the bar.” Jul 16, 2008 by
Inbum from Irvine, CA
“Appreciated that they are trying to pay attention to everybody.” Jul 11, 2008 by
Martin from Oakland, CA
“This hotel is way overrated and doesn't deserve the amount of stars it gets. There is an old smell that creeps throughout the building. Too many additional fees. Got weird vibe from other guests and staff.” Jul 10, 2008 by
Thomas from Potomac, MD
“Beautiful facility, view, common areas, pool/spa/tennis. Great location. Bathrooms old. Parking/resort fees add substantially to costs.” Jul 9, 2008 by
Rod from Bakersfield, CA
“Over priced, tacked on 24 dollar/day fees for parking and resort fees. 48 additional bucks.” Jul 8, 2008 by
Virginia R. from Sebastopol, CA
“Traditional and elegant, beautiful architecture on the exterior; high ceilings and lovely architectural detail in the lobby. Rooms are traditional in decoration with floral and prints. Bathrooms seem newly renovated and bedding is 5 star. Carpets worn.” Jul 2, 2008 by
Hopi from Culver City, CA
“The first night they put us into this closet with a single DBL bed and this is after we had requested a king bed, so I know this was dishonest. They made up for it by upgrading our room for the next 7 nights. Also, on the following weekend, they tried to check us out 2 days early, which also had to be straightened out. Overall, it was a great stay because of the upgraded room, club and price.” Jun 30, 2008 by
Kevin from Santa Fe Springs, CA
“The amenities are difficult to get to and use. Charges are out of line for what you get.” Jun 27, 2008 by
Wiley from Miami Shores, FL
“It is just beautiful and historic. It takes your breath away to sit in the lobby. Lots of real hotel activity. You can't go wrong with this one. One small caution: because the hotel is old, the music is heard on the lower floors, but it doesn't go on all night. Great food, great views. I can't wait to stay there again nest year when we take our daughter back to Berkeley.” Jun 5, 2008 by
Howard from Santa Rosa, CA
“I complained after we found that we could hear everything that went on in a room separated from ours by one thin partition door, and they then moved us to a better room.” Jun 4, 2008 by
Nicole from Seattle, WA
“The Claremont was nice, but we were surprised by the extra charges of $24 per day for self parking and $24 per day resort fee (even though we did not have time to use the resort facilities during our particular trip).”
