• The management made me feel at home.
• Hotel old and needs a facelift.

• Cleaning staff very knowledgeable, desk staff needs more knowledge.
• poor wifi source.

“Old hotel but everyone worked had to make it a good hotel with clean and responsible staff. Good location. Need to know more about transportation on Bart. Some staff needs more training and personality transplant. Over all good.”

• Right on top of train tracks, very loud all night.

“The room was clean, large -- staff very friendly and accommodating Interesting location as far as little shops and restaurants. No air conditioning. The trains were very loud all night. Had to pay for parking.”

• Lobby disorganized, $10.00 parking, SKID ROW area, train literally goes in front.

“This is the worst hotel I have stayed in since my college days in Mexico. Train literally goes by on the front street of hotel. Dirty unorganized lobby. Hotel did not have my reservation. ”

• Parking fee of $10. Train noise outside.

• Jack London Square is a cute area.
• The trains that come by every few minutes are extremely loud!!

“Do not stay in this hotel if noise keeps you from sleeping. The trains are extremely loud, and they run throughout the night. The area is cute, but the noise of the trains is even bothersome during the day when you're outside walking around.”

• It was a place to sleep.
• There was no free airport shuttle.

“It was an alright hotel other than the fact of the airport shuttle. I think that we shouldn't have had to pay or even catch a taxi. I wanted a hotel near the airport.”

• The people are very nice and helpful, location is nice.
• The hotel is next to a busy railroad and the trains making a lots of noise 24 hours. and it hard to rest special if you are on a business trip.

“I like the location and the service. Everybody was very nice and helpful and friendly above their call of duty. The whole way could be cleaner and the breakfast tables could be cover and breakfast could be healthier. Security was good but the only problem is the train horn.”

• It was close to where I had to be in the morning.
• It was located next to a train tracks so the noise was constant. The windows were not soundproof.

“The hotel was dirty. I never took off my slippers to walk around. I was assigned three unclean rooms. On the fourth try the clerk gave me a clean room. The continental breakfast which goes from 7AM - 9AM ran out of food by 7:30 AM. Right in front of the hotel is a Amtrak train track. Even in the back of the hotel one hears the train whistle. Don't expect a good night sleep with or without earplugs. The hotel is worthy of a one star rating in my book.”

• Friendly and helpful staff.
• Amtrak running by at all hours.

“Great location, in that it is just across from Jack London Square, but it is an older hotel and lots of noise from the Amtrak train at all hours. BART is twelve (short) blocks away, but neighborhood is a little scary at night.”

• I liked the fact that they had a complimentary continental breakfast.
• The bedding was dirty when we checked in and not changed the next day until specifically requested.

“The staff were friendly but talked about hotel shortcomings in front of the guests. The bed linens had grease on them and were not changed until it was pointed out they were the same linens from the day before. The coffee pot was not cleaned and no new coffee left. The washcloths were not replaced. As to location, there is a train that runs frequently that passes within 10 feet of the front of the hotel. It is convenient to Jack London Square, being right across the street.”

• They let me park for free and my son as well when he came to visit me.
• No hot tub.

“Generous room space and convenient to restaurants in Jack London Square. Large desk for work. Iron and board in room. They allowed me to park for free in the garage and when my son came to take me to dinner, they allowed him to park there as well even though it was advertised that there would be a fee of $10 for parking. I would like to have had a spa or hot tub available. I understand there is a pool somewhere.”

• The staff were very friendly and accommodating.
• Rooms need an upgrade.

“The staff were great, the rooms are a little long in the tooth, dirty and the carpet is old and very badly stained. The noise from the train was loud even in the back of the hotel, however it seemed to stop late in the night. The restaurant is good and an easy place to eat with kids as well as being not to expensive for large meals. The drive to the airport was fine along the interstate.”

• Amtrak commuter train runs RIGHT BY it...at all hours! ugh

“An older property, the Jack London Inn enjoys a wonderful location, but for one glaring fault...nobody ever mentions that the Amtrak commuter train runs on the street adjacent to the property. These trains come and go at all hours and if one is to stay here, one should ask for a room at the "back" of the property. The trade off here is absolutely no view! If one does not mind the noise, it is not a bad place to stay. Convenient to many venues, and close to Berkeley as well. ”

• This hotel is close to the freeway.
• The train tracks are literally right next to the hotel.

“This hotel I feel was given the inappropriate star level. Jack London Inn, was in a convenient location, close to the freeway and offers free internet service. I would say that is probably the positive aspects of the hotel. Next to the train which runs frequently, Dimly lit rooms, dated furniture and decor. Linens and furniture dirty.”

“The continental breakfast was terrible! Although the hotel is in a good location, it is old and not in good condition. Our toilet did not work, so someone from the hotel went up to repair it while we were out and did not close the door tightly, we were just lucky that the laptop and other valuables were not stolen! Would not recommend!”

• The inexpensiveness of the room.
• The incredibly rude treatment by the "manager" AND "owner".

“As far as expectations for the price, we got exactly as we expected: a clean, small room, with little or no conveniences, to lay our heads down in after a night out on the town. What we did NOT expect was a short, terse, and unwarranted rudeness from the "manager/owner" when we called to confirm our reservations on the way to the hotel. If the owner/manager of the hotel is this rude and unconcerned with the customers of his livelihood, what kind of attitude is the rest of the staff supposed to carry with the customers!!! If you are looking for a cheap place to lay your head down, with ZERO expectations of service or accommodations, then go ahead and book with them.”

• Large room. Across the street from a Barnes and Noble.
• It smelt in the room. The floors were dirty and so was the bathroom.

“Located in the center of Jack London Square, the hotel made us pay to park. The staff was unhelpful. I asked what else I should know after check in and they did not mention their breakfast in the morning. I did not find out until I checked out. The room was dirty on the floor and the bathroom in disrepair. The location seemed relatively safe.”

“Overall, we were very pleased with the hotel because our son loves trains and they past the front door day and night. We also liked the Jack London Square location, it is noisy but a lovely place. The hotel is quite dirty, rugs need shampooing, drapes cleaning, is very Smokey smelling. The people were basically nice.”

• Smelled bad (musty, mildew, cigarette smoke).

“Two rows of train tracks are within 15-20 feet of the front of the hotel. You can hear and feel the passing of Amtrak and freight trains all night long. The accommodations are dingy, smelly, dark and feel unclean. My clothes that were hung in the closet space retained a very rank odor. Even though I was scheduled to stay there three nights, I checked by 7 am after one very sleepless night. I was very disappointed.”

• DEFINITELY NOT up to typical standards

“While a decent hotel, it was NOT excellent or above-par by any standards. The hotel seemed to be trying for a "upper-end" designation, but not making it. I would seriously recommend dropping the hotel in its star rating.”

• The staff were very friendly, helpful and attentive.
• The stuff stuck onto/stains on, and holes in the bedding and furniture were off-putting.

“I would hesitate to stay here again due primarily to the appearance of the room (holes and stains). Otherwise I was satisfied with my experience at the hotel: the staff were friendly and helpful; the location was good; and I had little problem with the trains passing by, which they do pretty regularly.”

• Friendly staff, clean, quaint.
• I don't have anything that I can say that is negative.

“Our stay was wonderful, the staff went out of their way to accomodate our needs and even upgraded our room at no extra cost because I requested a room where we could have a view of the water. It is not new and fancy but rather old and quaint.”
