• Service was good; staff friendly; continental breakfast very good.
• Supposed to be located near UCB, but really far away, near bay.

• Very clean with a helpful friendly staff.
• Was a little far from the downtown Berkeley area.

“Very nice, comfortable and clean rooms. Excellent continental breakfast and courteous staff. Would definitely recommend it to friends, and would stay there again when visiting the Berkeley area.”

• Bathroom sink faucet was hard to use.

• Good location for UC Berkeley.
• Did not like the Styrofoam used for breakfast plates, bowls, and cups. Think green!

“It's a re-vamped hotel in a run-down part of town next to an upscale neighborhood. Pool could have been heated. There was a padlock on the pool (probably due to the neighborhood kids) and you have to ask to use the pool (no one wanted to because it wasn't heated). But really, the staff was friendly and helpful and the room was nice. Good continental breakfast, although Sunday morning was kind of zoo-like.”

• Carpet needs to be replaced.

“A good value for the price. Although it is time for renovations the bathrooms were clean. We were only there for about 12 hours.”

• They did find us another room after several calls to the manager and they did find our things eventually.

“Staff was unfriendly and unaccommodating until we demanded to talk to the manager. They had moved our stuff out of our room and given it to another person when we returned from picking someone up from the airport.”

• Front desk was excellent.
• Extremely slow elevator; TV stations not programmed.

“Great for convenient short stay. Older hotel that's been spruced and remodeled, so things like the slow elevator and that smell you associate with your grandma's house are expected. But the staff is great and the location good. Nothing too special, but a great place to simply rest your head.”

• Very hot in the hallways and huge fans running making noise.

• Near UC Berkeley and supermarkets, restaurants, excellent room and breakfast.
• Fitness center closed, and could not add more than one night on my reservation!

• Close to freeway.
• Older, many rehabs, room smelled like smoke.

“Hotel has a lot of history and is perhaps just too worn out. It was a fine, clean but old and worn experience. Room said non smoking, but still smelled of smoke. Clean paint and plenty of new lights in the hallway. Staff was friendly and courteous. Breakfast was somewhat sad. Overall I had a fine and safe visit, but don't expect a ton from this hotel.”

• Satisfactory for moving my son to UC Berkeley.
• Limited items for continental breakfast (i.e. no fresh fruit) and ran out of several items.

“Overall this hotel satisfied my family's and friend's needs while relocating my son to Berkeley.”

• Everything creaked, and heard people in ways I didn't want to hear.

• No internet, no cable, below standard room services.

“If this hotel actually had the amenities it advertises on its website, and if the room services staff were trained and managed properly, it may have lived up to a 2 star rating. However, given the overall lack of caring and general disregard for customer service on the management's behalf, it would be a hard press for this hotel (more like "motel") to make the climb!”

• The hotel room was quiet, and it featured a walk out balcony.
• Carpeting in hallways was well worn, outdated and somewhat stained.

“The La Quinta Berkeley, California offered a good value and a quiet, comfortable room. The hotel is older, and is in the process of renovation, since its carpeting, paint and some of the interior features are dated.”

• Location, one of the few hotels we found available in Berkeley.
• Air conditioning broken, TV had only two fuzzy channels, cigarette burns in blankets on bed, bad customer service via phone.

“Worst hotel I have stayed in, period. Cost was comparable to a very nice place. Accommodations were comparable to a hotel that might cost $30-40. I have stayed in nicer dump hotels in Vegas.”
