• Trendy, cool lobby, helpful and convenient location.
• Stuck us in a tiny room when they saw that we had a small child and crib.

“A trendy and hip interior that featured a free wine hour. A short walk to quick food, the embarcadero, AT&T Park and just a few blocks from the heart of downtown SF. This unique boutique hotel is not without history, which makes the retro military hang out that much more interesting.”

“We were greeted by the staff that was very helpful and friendly. The hotel is very clean and quite. The location was perfect for our visit as it is located between Pier 39 and AT&T park. We would definitely stay there again.”

• The location is perfect. Near the Ferry Building and close enough to the wharf that it isn't a long walk.
• The room was so small that you barely have room to walk around the bed.

“Great location with plenty of good restaurants and close to the Bart Embarcadero stop. My only complaint are the tiny rooms they place you in. They are so small that you can barely walk around with a second person in the room. Otherwise good staff, clean facilities and a quiet room.”

• The staff was incredibly helpful with sightseeing ideas.
• The rooms were a little small but adequate.

“I would definitely recommend this hotel. The lobby and staff was very nice. Apples and coffee set out for snacks, well decorated. The rooms were a tad small and have a big mirror on the wall (kind of disconcerting looking at yourself allot). But they were very clean, the bed was very comfortable, the bathrooms had been redone. Right on bus lines to tour the city. Worked very well for us.”

• They offer a wine and beer reception every evening.
• Closest self parking was somewhere down a couple blocks off Howard.

“Very clean and recently renovated hotel. Rooms were small, but that is to be expected in SF. It's conveniently located right across from Fisherman's Warf which is great for a quick meal of fried shrimp, fish and chips. While you're at it, you might as well take a friend and get a clam chowder bowl. Highly recommend this hotel to anyone.”

“Good price, good location (close to Bart and pier 1), helpful staff. The room we stayed in was clean and comfortable, except it was just smaller than we expected. Also, some of the things we have come to expect to be complementary, such as a razor, or other toiletries, cost 3 to 5 dollars each. It made the hotel seem sort of cheep, despite the nice style if the hotel.”

• The lobby was stunning, they hosted drinks and snacks, the restaurant next door was great!
• The rooms were so small the full sized bed only had one foot on each side to move around in.

“This hotel is not for a family. We have a 2yr old and there was nowhere for him to stand in the room. They were only full sized beds. Parking is $40 per night and it isn't onsite, it is around the corner in a parking garage. The lobby is beautiful and spacious, not like the rooms. The employees were helpful, but couldn't change anything (bed size, room location). I would only recognize this hotel for a business traveler that doesn't need a lot of room or need to spend a lot of time in it.”

• The hotel was in the perfect location for a weekend trip in the city! Plenty of dining and entertainment.
• I felt that I didn't get the same service as other guest.

“The hotel, overall, was very nice. The queen room was a little on the small side, but is was clean and had a relaxing aura which made up for the size. The only complaint I have was that I called at least three times and attempted to request a king size bed. When I called the night before I was told it would be no problem, but when I went to check in and said I asked a king bed, the women behind the desk responded, oops sorry it seems like were all booked for the weekend, with out even looking at her screen. From there no attempt was made to handle my request! I spent more than I wanted to so that I could stay on the Embarcadero with view of the city but ended up with a view of an alley way instead.”

• The location of this hotel is excellent. That is the selling point.
• The room was very small.

“The experience was very pleasant. The location made up for the small room. For business travelers it is perfect. For a couple it is good as well. For kids and families it is not good. The staff is very helpful and friendly. But over all I had a great time and would recommend this place to any couple.”

“They told me that I could not check in until the last room was free. It was 10x10 unaccommodating for 2 single women traveling together, moldy shower, absolutely no room for luggage. It was a horrible experience!”

“This Kempton hotel is a great find in the Embarcadero. It's a quaint and charming place in spite of the traditionally small SF hotel space and the animal print, common in all Kempton hotels, is all the more striking in a smaller space.”

“Great location, it was right on the waterfront. The staff was very friendly and accommodating to my dog. They serve free wine and beer for an hour in the evening and warm cookies and milk before bed. Excellent food.”

• Rooms were small & not very well sound proof.

“The location was great & near the Ferry Building. We were a group of 10 and thoroughly enjoyed the lobby where we had plenty of space to be comfortable and visit. The wine reception and morning coffee were nice pluses. Would've loved to have visited the YMCA next door, but only stayed one night. Walk to Moscone Center was doable. The Ferry Building's Farmers Market was great. Rooms were small, bedding was very nice, no view at all from our room. Wonderful! Took the ferry over from Larkspur so saved on the parking costs.”

• Unfriendly desk clerk with a bad attitude.

“The desk clerk had an attitude. When we asked if there were any king rooms, she said no without even looking. She was clearly looking down on us. When we were checking out they tried to bill us for two items from the mini-bar. Two items we did not use or take from the mini-bar. I brought this up to the clerk and he said, no problem, we will remove the charges. Without question and without even asking anything. This tells me that they routinely try to charge people for items they don't use and if they get away with it, they make extra money. I would definitely not recommend this hotel to any person I like.”

“It was a very cool and convenient location. The staff was friendly and helpful during the entire stay. They assisted in booking us on tours even though we let them know last minute. I would stay there again!”

• Ambiance very good. Nice wine and coffee in the lobby. Location was very good. Amenities like umbrella, toiletries, etc above average, sheets great.
• No immediate restroom in the lobby of the hotel.

“Great hotel, and if I had been on the other side of the hotel I am sure the views would have been stunning. The restaurants close were excellent, the location for active people is great.”

• Great attention to detail, high quality furnishings, beautiful and intelligent fixtures, brilliant design in a small room.
• Little room for large suitcases.

“I really was impressed with the superior design of all aspects of this boutique hotel, from the bed and linen quality to the wall mounted plexi-glass side table with a fine radio/mp3/ipod player unit. We even had a partial view of the bay with pleasure and business boats all around. The only negative is that the rooms are small - a large couple, or pre-cruise travelers with big luggage might find the accommodations too confining. We loved the location and would not hesitate to stay there again. It was a lovely experience and exceeded our expectations.”

• I love the location, the room, the bed and bedding and the NY Times.
• Wish they had a restaurant for breakfast or put out more than coffee and earlier on the weekend.

“This hotel has a perfect location. The amenities were beyond my expectations and the room size was more than adequate. Some previous reviews had mentioned a small room, but I was very pleased with the size. Also the shower was great, even though they claimed they had a water saving feature, there was plenty of pressure.”

“Stylish, fun decor. Excellent location and helpful, friendly staff. Just make sure that you don't' have too much luggage because the room is so small. We had two suitcases each and were constantly running into the bed.”

• Not all rooms have a view of the bay or city.

“I love the Harbor Court for my getaways in San Francisco. The location is right on the bay and Embarcadero. Great for long walks, farmer's market, financial district and the ferries. Even though the rooms are very small, I spend most of my time in them sleeping and the beds are superb. I feel like its my hotel in the city.”

• The location, the friendly staff, cleanliness, attractive rooms.
• The first room we were assigned had a wall to wall mirror, which I found unsettling and asked for another which they happily agreed to.

“I loved the location of this hotel. It was easy to walk or use public transportation to get around town. We took the ferry into the city and had a short walk to our hotel. The cable car lines were close, and we could also easily catch the bus or the bart. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was small, but very nicely appointed and comfortable. We could have brought our dog! They would have helped us arranged doggie day care for the times we couldn't be with him. I loved the Aveda products in the bathroom and all the pampering touches. I was traveling with my daughter for the weekend, but would love to visit again with my husband for a relaxing city get away! I did not attend the wine tasting or get our evening cookies and coco, but I love these touches. It sets it apart for me from other hotels I've stayed at in San Francisco, including the Hyatt down the street. I've found my favorite hotel!”

• Parking around the area is very expensive if you don't get street parking. Rooms are a little small.

“The possible cons (but, were strongly outweighed by the pros) small room (big enough for us since we really spent most of our time outside of the room) very poor view (5 feet to an opposing wall) vagrants sleeping on the unused lobby door (but this is common in SF) A/C was broken the first night, but was fixed the next day when we alerted the staff.”

“This boutique hotel was a former YMCA dorm bldg-which explains the small rooms. The decor in the room was very nice, and the beds were comfortable. One block south of Market Street, with quick access to the "F" Line Street car which takes you to Fishermans Wharf and the Castro?”

• The room was beyond small. I'm not sure how they even got the bed in there.

“This is a very nice hotel in an excellent location. The room was very clean, and had everything, but was so small you literally couldn't turn around. The clearance between the shower door and the towel rack was an engineering marvel. It was the thickness of a dollar bill. For a single traveler the rating moves up a notch, but for even the most loving couple it's tight for two.”

• Really small rooms, our windows were 10 feet away wall of building next to us, so no view at all.

“This was a great hotel. It's located one block south of Pier 2 in the Embarcadero neighborhood, where there are artisan booths on Saturday and Sunday (maybe weekdays. I don't know since we weren't there past Sunday) as well as a really nice Saturday morning Farmer's Market. You can catch the PCC streetcar, which runs along the water's edge, to get to all the other piers, including Fisherman's wharf for $2.50. It's also affiliated with the YMCA next store so you have free access to the gym. The rooms are clean and colorfully decorated, but really small. As the hotel faces the San Francisco, Oakland Bay Bridge, you either get a spectacular view of the Bay and the bridge, or a view of the wall of the building next door right outside your window, which is what we got. I'd recommend it for couples and business travelers, but not for families purely because of the small room size.”
