• Front desk staff was superb - professional, friendly and extremely helpful.
• Experienced an emergency evacuation but it was handled in an orderly, calm fashion - false alarm.

“Excellent location for shopping, business near union square. Bart station steps away; room was comfortable, extremely clean and staff was the best. Front desk staff was the best I've ever encountered - friendly, warm and couldn't do enough to help. Lobby is small and not for lounging, but well decorated, clean and great doormen.”

• We loved the contemporary decor. Room was right on Market Street but very quiet, comfortable bed.
• We had a bad service experience having breakfast 15 minutes before any service at all.

• The location was convenient. Close to the downtown area!
• The parking rates were very expensive, even for San Francisco. The window view was disappointing (into a neighboring office building).

“The rooms are clean, stylish and sophisticated. The staff were super-friendly and efficient. The view from the inner courtyard rooms is into a neighboring office building (not exactly ideal). The hotel parking was nearly $45 per night, pricey by just about anyone's standards. The restaurant and bar are very appealing with classy decor. Overall, a very enjoyable experience. I would recommend to just about anyone who seeks sophisticated lodging.”

• Not too large, (8 floors) - not too small (boutique).
• Traffic is bad and homeless people are prevalent a block away.

“The Palomar hotel is graced with professional 'can I help you" without seemly being noisy and overly helpful. Good looking security personnel were obvious by the front door and given homeless people around, it were comforting. And with their fifth floor restaurant within the hotel, great food and service at a cost was worth it. Although there's no real view from most of the floors (small hotel but larger than a "boutique" - who cares, I just like to eat, sleep and get served well when I¿m running about.”

• The staff was very friendly and the hotels location was central to shopping and restaurants.
• Interior room was kind of dark, the hotel building is old.

“Bathrooms are small, but the rooms are well appointed. Very comfortable beds, but the pillows are like mud sacks. For San Francisco shopping convenience and access to public transportation, you cannot get a better location. Unfortunately the area is also overloaded with beager and street people. It may be safe, but it does not feel like it.”

• Could not upgrade me to king-bed, also ~$50/night parking.

“I definitely enjoyed the Palomar; it is in a great location right in the heart of the action in San Francisco's shopping district. The staff was pleasant, and professional, although they were unable to upgrade me to a king-bed like I asked (was stuck with 2 doubles). The room was clean, elegant, and quiet. Despite being in downtown so, the valet parking was very efficient and effective, but very expensive, costing almost $50/night after taxes. Overall a great experience, I would definitely use it again!”

• The hotel was in an excellent location and had all the amenities that we needed.
• The room was small but comfortable.

“I will stay at this hotel again. I read allot of reviews about the different hotels and I was pleased with my choice. The price is a little steep for the hotel but the staff, location and convenience made up for the down side.”

• Overall great staff; one of the Bellmen made the effort to remember my name.
• Expensive parking. refrigerator noise.

“Clean, well furnished, quiet (for a city) room. We were not placed in a corner, or in a noisy spot like a couple other experiences. If you don't need to have a massive breakfast spread, a lobby with constant activity, or a full service business center, the Palomar should be your choice in SF. We will return.”

• Staff was extremely helpful and courteous. Bed was great.
• I did not find anything to dislike.

“This hotel is in a great location. Union Square is just a couple of blocks away and for extra purchases, there is a Ross just across the street. A Walgreen is around the corner and movie theater are a short 2 or 3 block walk. Restaurants are close by. I walked to several for breakfast, and dinner.”

• The Palomar was very conveniently located just off of Market, walk to any transportation, the best shopping, restaurants, theater & family parks!
• The only thing I did not care for was the lack of space on the street for unloading your car. This seems the case for all SF hotels in the area.

“Whether you're into shopping, site seeing, nightlife, or having fun with your family, this is the center of all of San Francisco. Trolley's buses and BART are all within a block, yet the rooms are considerably quiet with not two but three layers of glass between you and the street noise. This could be a problem for those with claustrophobia We were checked in promptly and although the parking is very expensive, the staff recommended a garage a block away that was about half the price! We did not eat there (in too late), but the restaurant had a very romantic, beautiful, and classy ambiance.”

• The staff was attentive and the bed was very comfortable with high-quality sheets.
• The room-to-room noise was excessive and the lobby floor was dirty and rundown.

“Overall a pleasant place to stay, but I visited a friend in the nearby Handlery Hotel where he'd received a room twice the size with a balcony and view for forty dollars less. My biggest complaint would be the communication of room-to-room noise.”

• Very friendly staff and very tentative to my needs. I loved how the staff turned down the bed at night for sleep. Thank you.
• Good food but way too expensive.

“I loved the location of the hotel. It was very close to the Moscone convention center which allowed me to walk to the center everyday. Very convenient. All the hotel service and staff were really great. Very polite, friendly and tentative staff. I would definitely stay this hotel again. I did recommend this hotel to my friends and family.”

• The location was ideal. Close to shopping, restaurants and attractions.
• The room I stayed in was located very close to the lounge, which was very noisy.

“The Palomar is located close to some of the best shopping and entertainment areas of San Francisco. Parking was not an issue with the valet service available at the hotel. The Palomar is tastefully decorated and the staff was great.”

• I think it could use some updated decorating.

“It was a nice place to stay. I was a little disappointed in the age and outdated decor, especially in the bathrooms and the carpeting. However, the staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful, the place was clean and the beds were very comfortable. Nice bedding as well. The location was convenient to all the places we wanted to go to. I would definitely come back again.”

“This hotel is strategically located near Union Square, close to great restaurants, shopping, the Museum of Modern Art and the Merton theatres. Public transportation is right across the street. The staff is kind, helpful, very personable. The rooms were quiet, comfortable, and the beds were the best. We loved staying at the Palomar.”

• The friendly door men and the helpful concierge.
• They gouge you on parking, $42 a day. The rooms are a little small, but to be expected for an old building.

“Great hotel, luxury linens, friendly staff, great location - near all the shopping areas. Not near the nightlife though. If you are driving in be aware they charge $42 a day to park.”

• close to the Macon Center convention center.
• Unacceptably high charges for using in room fax.

“The Palomar was a great deal for the price we paid. We stayed on the 8th floor which was very quiet and they accommodated our request for a king size bed. They also granted us a late check out of 2pm. There is a fax machine in the room which we used three times thinking the rates would be the same as if we were to make a phone call. However, when we checked out we were charged close to $50. We protested as there were not separate rates posted near the fax. They took of $11. Hotel surcharge but no the rest - we came away feeling that we had been gouged. Otherwise our stay was really very nice.”

• It anticipated my needs pretty darn well. The turndown service was wonderful.
• Parking rates are pricey , though I didn't use ($8/hr!). Staff is not the friendliest I've ever encountered

“Virtually everything was perfect, from the soft lighting and comfy bed to the mini stereo and Aveda samples. The Fifth Floor restaurant should offer Palomar guests a little something extra to entice traffic. There is a better-than-decent fitness room. I got an inside room, which does not offer a view, but am sure that it was a heck of a lot quieter than an outside one.”

“It is located at Fourth and Market, about 3 blocks from Union Square, close to BART and bus lines and the trolly.Rooms are very nice, high ceilings, spacious and quiet.Extras included newspapapers at the door, robes and bed turndown. Personell are very freindly. ”

• The location is great and the ambiance was nice.
• I really think rooms should have in-room coffee as a minimum service.

“There's a lot of good things about this hotel depending on what you're looking for. It's a nice hotel, the location is so convenient and the rooms are well appointed and clean. However, if you suffer with dust allergies, you might think twice about staying here. The pillows are all down (great for some but I got ill). And, alas, the other things I've read about can be a problem...no in room coffee service. There's coffee in the lobby and a Starbucks across the way, but who wants to get dressed and go out before waking up? The pocket door for the bathroom could be a problem for privacy.”

“A really nice little hotel, staff were very friendly and helpful, rooms were well appointed (although the leopard print carpet wasn't exactly my style :-). Lots of personal touches, didn't leave me feeling like an annonymous customer like the larger chains. In short, recommended and would gladly stay there again.”

“The hotel palomar is a beautiful hotel, just steps from market street. i was greeted by friendly staff, who smiled each time i came in and left the lobby. no question went unanswered and no request was too big or small for them. my room was clean and internet access was free. there is a nice exercise room, and the 5th floor restaurant was fantastic.”

• The parking fee was a little high and the restaurant was too pricey.

“Overall it was a very good experience. The hotel and service exceeded our expectations. The location is great and we felt safe walking everywhere at all times. • At $37 for 24 hours, valet parking was expensive

“The Hotel Palomar is located in downtown S.F., one block from the Metreon and one block from shopping in Union Square. The rooms are decorated a bit like an ocean liner, with navy stripes and green accent pillows. Aveda products in the bathrooms are a nice touch.”

“This was my first stay at this hotel. I walked by many times. I must say that the staff, the great rooms, and fantastic service, made my stay very enjoyable. I highly recommend this combination 4 star and botique hotel.”

“The Palomar Hotel is definitely one of the city's best places to stay. Close to Union Square, SBC Park, & the Embarcadero, with Cable Car, BART, & Muni access literally steps away. The staff were young, friendly and accessible and housekeeping was spot on. We would absolutely recommend the Palomar to those travelling to San Francisco, and will definitely return.”

• The decor was lovely and the room was clean and comfortable...that area of town (Union Square) is a bit crazy on a Friday night but room was quiet.
• The location of the hotel...felt just a touch unsafe to walk around area at night

“A lovely quiet oasis in a rather crazy part of town. The room was clean and comfortable and the bed was turned down and cozy. Room service dinner was just OK...would not order again but would definitely go back to hotel for another stay. Staff was efficient and friendly. I had a most pleasant (one night) stay.”
