“This is an excellent place right in the hart of Downtown San Francisco, first class all the way. I travel on a very tight budget and these extra hidden fees are hard to plan for.”

• Room amenities not fully stocked (that is conditioner, toothpaste, coffee not in room by downstairs lobby).

• Unknowledgeable staff, ripped carpet, city view rooms, no pool/Jacuzzi, parking.

“Great location in Union District. There was no pool or Jacuzzi though. The desk staff was not very helpful when I asked them many questions. When we asked how to get to the Mission District, he told us to get on the Muni and it should have been the Bart. If he really did not know, he should not have told us, also he should know the general directions to the different districts since he is at the front desk and I am sure we could not have been the only ones who ever asked how to get somewhere. Also, once we figured it out, it is really simple and it should not have been hard for him to know simple areas since he lived there.”

• Nice hotel located within a block of Union Square.
• Smaller rooms than other similar hotels in the area.

“This hotel is conveniently located within a block of Union Square. It is nicely maintained and the rooms are newer, clean and comfortable. We requested a higher floor and got an awesome view of the high rise buildings in the Financial District as well as Coit Tower. The staff here are super friendly and helpful with your questions. I would definitely stay here again.”

• Room fixtures were a little old, but clean.

“Great location, right off of Union Square, so great for shopping, dining. Staff was very accommodating- let us switch to a non-smoking room, no questions asked. Valet was expensive, park at the Stockton Garage up the street.”

• Parking prices were absurd. Do not valet!

“Hotel is nice and clean, but the rooms looked a little out dated for a supposed 4 star hotel. The Hyatt is in a great location which is close to great shopping and restaurants. My biggest complaint is parking. The valet is almost $60 a night.”

• Coffee maker but no coffee cups. Intermittent flapping wire noise in wall.

“The staff was very pleasant and accommodating in letting me check in a bit early and finding me a room on a higher floor, on a busy Labor Day weekend. Overall, the location on Union Square is hard to beat. For breakfast, service at the restaurant's top floor was exemplary.”

• The view from the room was awesome! --both land & bay scenes.
• The maid never replaced the liner in the ice bucket & the rooms weren't sound-proofed enough. Also, they charged $10/night for WiFi service!

“Great location and excellent staff but our room was small and outdated. The in room coffee maker would have been nice without the $4 charge for the coffee packet. The 36th floor restaurant offers incredible views but is very loud. The menu is limited.”

• The staff is extremely nice and always call you by your name.
• The valet parking rates are outrageous.

“I have never stayed at this Hyatt. I usually stay in my smaller boutique hotels. I was very pleased with my decision to stay at this Hyatt. The price was great and the hotel was nice, the staff was friendly and a great location in Union Square. The only thing I did not like was being charged $49.00 per night to park my car (by the hotel). I might could have found something cheaper but anyone who has been to San Fran, parking is just a nightmare. Other than that, I was very happy with this Hyatt and in all honesty, the parking is probably not associated with Hyatt, they are usually separate companies.”

• Valet parking was only option - exorbitant at $49 per night.

“Front desk help was excellent. Rooms were great. Nice view from 26th floor, good TV, and fully stocked minibar. Valets disinterested at best. This hotel was a great base for exploring Union Square, SOMA and downtown/trolley/wharf side San Francisco, but be prepared to hunt for your own parking ($49 per night valet only), Internet computer use ($37 per hr), meals was expensive, etc.”

• Terrific concierge (s), great desk staff and bell men.
• No obvious ash receptacles for outdoor smokers. Grounds littered.

“Close to theaters, all kinds of food services and transportation; beautiful plaza with fountain for people watching; in midst of upscale shopping as well as regular stores; fruit stands movies. This is SF at its best. Wharf, Coit tower, museums, Golden gate park all about 8-12 min away by every method: cable-car, taxi, bus.”

• The location, the immaculate room and the staff went out of their way to friendly and helpful.
• They forgot to put coffee and cups in the room, but we asked and they brought it up.

• Would have liked to seen a more casual dining option.

“Perfect Union square location. Reasonably short walk to the embarcadero. Very easy to flag a taxi, and near other forms of public transportation. Friendly and available staff. If you came to San Francisco to shop, this is your place.”

“The Grand Hyatt was so comfortable and welcoming with a nice view of the city. The 36th floor bar has a great view, but the kitchen closes early for a Saturday night. The bed and linens were extremely comfortable!”

“I asked for a quieter room since we had an infant, but we were assigned to the 4th floor, street side. Quite noisy with all the traffic! Our room had a very large smear on the window that was finally cleaned on the 2nd day.”

• Beds were extremely comfortable with lots of pillows!
• The wind against the side of the hotel kept making our room creak.

“Overall, our stay was very nice and relaxing with no problems whatsoever. My only less positive thing to say about the hotel was the creaking in our room due to high elevations and the wind. I was unable to experience the fitness room, but have heard great things about it! I would recommend this hotel to friends/family.”

• Extremely friendly and courteous staff, great location.
• Not as many amenities as one would expect in a 4 star hotel.

“But the hotel was lovely, the room was clean and comfortable, and the restaurant upstairs definitely lived up to the name Grand Views. Everyone should go up at least once during their stay. I was also pleasantly surprised by how late room service was offered and how quickly it arrived; I got in late on my first night and was able to order food. By the time I got out of a quick shower, they were at my door. The location is perfect if you're a shopper and you want hit a lot of the down town sites at once. You can hop on a bus, cable car, or BART within a block or two of the hotel. The staff was incredible gracious and helpful. There was, as someone else complained, a bit of mildew on my shower curtain. But as soon as I alerted the front desk to it, the problem was immediately corrected and they were extremely apologetic (the woman at the desk almost seemed shocked and a little embarrassed).”

• Plenty of doormen who greet and serve with pleasure. They received prompt service and treated us like we were the only guests.
• The overnight parking is $50 a night. Within a 15 (fifteen) hours were charged $100 because of timing.

“The hotel has located within walking distance of all the great shops, China Town, cable cars and the financial district. It's a great midpoint to everything. The area around the hotel is clean and lively with many tourists and business worker from out of town and nearby financial district.”

• Excellent, prompt service. Friendly staff. Exceptionally comfortable beds. Great high speed elevators.
• Smaller than expected room. Toilet was plumbing in poor condition. No pool. Very expensive valet parking.

“This Hyatt Is beautiful, with a very friendly and courteous staff. The rooftop restaurant is breathtaking. The rooms are clean and inviting, although a bit small for a 4 star hotel. The room I stayed in had plumbing issues in the bathroom. The elevators are super fast and efficient. The beds are out of this world in comfort and support. When we checked in, we had perishable food with us, so I called down for a mini fridge and it arrived in two minutes flat. The only thing that I was a bit disappointed about was that this hotel has no pool, however, they did offer us a free key to their sister site about 2 miles down the road so that we can use the pool there. The hotels location is excellent. When we needed information about sightseeing and the bay area tours. The girl at the information desk was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Since street parking in that area is scarce, we had no choice but to shell out a whopping $49 a night for the valet parking they offer. Since we stayed for two nights, we paid 100 bucks for parking.”

• No hot water in shower. Only complaint. Took cold showers for 4 days.

“Wonderful location! Just a mere steps away from Union Square and shopping. The staff and hotel amenities were on par for a 4 star hotel. The only complaint was that the water in the shower never heated up! Was there for 4 days and had to take quick 2 minute showers daily because the water was just too cold. Other than that, everything else met expectations.”

“I liked the hotel. It was in the heart of San Francisco. The staff judged us on our appearance/clothes when we first arrived and put us a room that was only to be for staff if they had to stay over night. I complained the next morning and received an apology and a better room with a view. Many staff members were very judgmental. There were problems with the bill.”

• Traffic noise in the room was awful!

“The hotel was fine, but my trip was ruined due to the traffic noise below. We were on the third floor and I had a horrible night sleep due to the traffic noise. I don't think the windows were soundproof at all. I had a pounding headache the whole night and got little sleep.”
