“Decent Room. Staff was not too helpful.” Feb 5, 2009 by
Sharon from Olympia,WA
“A wonderful 3 day/night stay. Hopping bar, easy check in/out. Location. A very beautiful and certainly one of the Great Hotels.” Jan 22, 2009 by
Tasha from Vancouver,Canada
“The hotel was lovely, it was an excellent location. However, the front desk staff were rude and unfriendly. The front desk manager was not very nice or helpful either.” Jan 12, 2009 by
Judith from Wrightwood,CA
“This hotel has such old world charm. It is a living time capsule to the area. I loved the history chronicled throughout the hotel. The location is central to shopping and dining. It is very easy to move throughout the city from this location. I can't wait to return.” Jan 11, 2009 by
Terry from Albuquerque,NM
“The hotel was right off I-75, easy off, easy on. The room was comfortable, everything was accessible, and it was a perfect place to stay the night on a road trip.” Jan 5, 2009 by
Eva from Colorado Springs,CO
“The St. Francis is an old hotel with new tower add on. We stayed in the old part, the room was small but comfortable. My husband has stayed here on business and said that the rooms he had were larger and had street (union square) views. You can walk to china town,Nob hill and of course shoppping. The cable car stop is nearby as is the subway (BART).” Jan 4, 2009 by
Toby from Severn,MD
“Excellent location and staff. Concierge was very helpful. Convenient to public transportation, shopping, and dining.” Dec 15, 2008 by
Virginia from Plano,TX
“It was a nice hotel for the price. Clean, comfortable and very good location. But very small rooms.” Dec 4, 2008 by
Christina from Morristown,NJ
“This hotel has a nice lobby and nice staff but that is where the pluses end. Our room fit the bed and a TV with barely any room to put our bags. It was so small, I felt claustrophobic even though I'm not. We asked for a bigger room and they gave us the same size room with a smaller bed in it! Also, their parking cost $56 a day not including the tip to the guys. It is completely ridiculous when you can Park down the street for $20 a day. The restaurants are super expensive and average at best. The lunch we ordered through the room service cost $60 for 2 burgers and took 1 1/2 hours to come. Skip this place.” Oct 30, 2008 by

“What a San Francisco tradition to stay at the St. Francis on Union Square! Our wonderful large, high ceiling room overlooked Union Square. We had thick, down comforters, the decor was elegant and the staff was very helpful and friendly. At first we were worried that our room was next to the elevators but we were in the original building with the thick walls but, never heard a thing and the fact that the elevator stop running from 10 pm – 6 am really helped keep things quiet. We could only hear the sounds of the cable cars outside our window and they were what San Francisco is all about!

“The Westin St. Francis is a beautiful hotel located across the street from Union Square. To see this hotel at night is unbelievably phenominal. The entire staff was friendly. The rooms were extremely small for the normal price. I also stayed at the Westin on 54th and Market. Which used to be the Argonaut. The rooms were much bigger and nice. The staff was friendly and they were able to accommodate me on short notice after checking out of the Westin St. Francis.” Oct 26, 2008 by
Greg
“Stayed in the "historic" portion of the hotel. The room, while comfortable and nice, was extremely small. I think the new tower portion rooms are considerably larger.” Oct 24, 2008 by
Ben
“Location is great. Service is good but room was very small.” Oct 7, 2008 by

“Satisfied. Within walking distance from conference place.” Sep 29, 2008 by
Lauren
“This hotel exceeded my expectations for the price! The location was amazing and close to shopping, sightseeing, and public transporation. I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family. The only downside, which wasn't too bad is that the rooms were not very soundproof. Could easily hear conversations in the hallway, etc. With that being said, the rooms were extremley nice and had a great charm to them (tall ceilings, crown molding, chandelier, etc.)” Sep 23, 2008 by
Shelby
“Amazing Hotel! Would love to stay again. Very helpful staff. Went for our 1st Anniversary and they sent us up champagne and chocolates. Perfect location.” Sep 23, 2008 by
Mike
“I love the hotel but this stay was terrible. Our room was too noisy to sleep. It was too late to change rooms so I had to ask for ear plugs. A/C sounded like a locomotive. Plumbing in neighboring rooms sounded like Niagara Falls and the elevators created noise in our room as well. The manager was apologetic the next day which I appreciated, but it was one bad stay.” Sep 22, 2008 by

“NA” Sep 14, 2008 by
Candice from Kaneohe, HI
“The location of this hotel is fabulous. It is close to the Financial District, in the middle of all the shopping locations and closely placed to public transportation options for business travelers.” Sep 11, 2008 by
Margie from North Huntingdon, PA
“The hotel itself is beautiful. However, we were in the older section which was tastefully appointed but so small. Also, the door to our room was angled in such a way it was within inches to the next door room. That was annoying as it was noisy, very noisy. Parking, expensive.” Sep 10, 2008 by
Sara from Highlands Ranch, CO
“This hotel is in a fantastic location. The service was great. My only complaint was that the room was so small. There was no room to put your suitcases and the coffee pot was in the closet, as there was no where else to put it.” Sep 10, 2008 by
Annick from Long Beach, CA
“We loved the location. It is in Union Square and within walking distance to China Town. It is close to all of the public transportation. Our room in the new tower was clean and the hotel staffs were friendly. Overall, we had a good experience with this hotel.” Sep 10, 2008 by
Joanne from Huntington Beach, CA
“Hotel very historic and pretty. Besides not being able to upgrade to a larger bed, had only one more issue-dirty comforter.” Sep 10, 2008 by
Laura from Cypress, CA
“The rooms are extremely small (even by European standards). The air-conditioning did not cool the space sufficiently. The walls are very thin so guests will hear the comings and goings of the rooms next door as well as every noise made in the hallway. While the staff was friendly, it could not make up for this lackluster hotel.” Sep 10, 2008 by
Nick from Mankato, MN
“A truly beautiful hotel with spotless service. Having stayed at several 4* in the last few weeks, The St. Francis was an absolute standout.” Sep 10, 2008 by
Gary from Chicago, IL
“Great location. Small details show hotel not being kept up to standards. Should be 3 star & not 4. Somewhat rare hot weather in SF was an inconvenience as the hotel either did not have air-conditioning or it was not working.” Sep 9, 2008 by
Karen from Salinas, CA
“I love this hotel, and I was disappointed with the lack of cleanliness, and the extra charge for two beds.” Sep 9, 2008 by
Jim from Modesto, CA
“This was a very good value for San Francisco with a great central location. Customer service was prompt, courteous and professional. Rooms were a bit worn to be considered but they were certainly comfortable. Inner hallways can be noisy on weekends and walls between rooms are not very sound-proof. I would probably stay there again.” Sep 8, 2008 by
Toby from New Albany, OH
“Friendly staff, beautiful lobby and well appointed rooms, however small. Location is convenient from major freeways and close to great restaurants.” Sep 8, 2008 by
Krishan from London, CA
“Great central location for shopping, sight-seeing, dining. I was in older part of Hotel which has character with nice old-fashioned, historic feel and touches in lobby & rooms. Michael Mena was best dining experience I've ever had in US. Only criticism is could hear intrusive humming in room partly due to noisy A/C system but which made it a little difficult to sleep. Overall though excellent value for money!” Sep 7, 2008 by
Dan from Stoneham, MA
“Location was perfect, right in Union Square. The service was excellent from the moment I pulled into the parking area where an attendant took our car and told us that we would have access to it whenever we chose. Inside, the lobby was classically beautiful. Again the service was excellent. We were given a room in the historic (old) section of the building. Although the room itself was somewhat small, it was also beautiful. High ceilings, updated bathroom, comfortable bed and flat screen TV were some of the features. The only downside was when my wife and I went to use the fitness center. They charge $12 per day and the facilities seemed kind of cramped. All in all a great place to stay for one evening before we went to Sonoma to experience wine country for the next couple of nights.” Sep 6, 2008 by
Patricia from Riverbank, CA
“Pros: Location, beautiful public areas. Cons: Dirty bathroom upon arrival, small room with no view, unwillingness to upgrade, front desk personnel were unfriendly, outrageous valet parking prices.” Sep 5, 2008 by
Jason from Los Angeles, CA
“It's nice old renovated hotel with high ceilings but the room I stayed in is really small. The location is great, right at the Union Square but the parking was expensive. The valet one time took like 25 minutes to pull out of the garage. They don't give courtesy phone calls when you check into the room to see if anything is needed or like the room like other 4 star hotels very professionally do.” Sep 5, 2008 by
Patrick from Pacific Grove, CA
“We were just there for the weekend, but had a great time. The parking, front desk, and bell staff were consistently friendly, helpful and patient. The rooms were small but very nicely appointed and the beds and linens were extremely comfortable. The rooms are surprisingly quiet, even though the hotel is in a very busy area of the city. The location is close to everything you could possibly want to see in San Francisco (or close to easy transportation to everything else not right there.) The lobby is small considering the large numbers of people coming and going and using the three restaurant & bars. The hotel parking as everywhere else in Union Square, is expensive. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to do it again soon.” Sep 4, 2008 by
Marco from Birmingham, MI
“Room was expensive, tiny, old and very noisy because it was located behind an elevator. We asked for a room with a great view and ended up on the fifth floor.” Sep 4, 2008 by
Liz from Kirkland, WA
“We stayed in the historic wing of the hotel and were amazed by the historic decor, it was quit charming! It were as though we stepped back in time. The air-conditioner was broken in our room so we switched rooms and received a free breakfast voucher. The bed was super comfortable. The bathroom was just ok, needs some updating. The noise from the adjacent room was bad, we could hear a couple fighting word for word through the walls. The noise from the street was bad, street musicians played until midnight and the sound came right through into the room even with windows closed. Hotel parking is 50 bucks a night, so we parked on the street a block away for free. Trolley access right outside the door is great. Staff was very friendly. All in all a good hotel, if you don't mind the noise.” Sep 3, 2008 by
Carol from Tuolumne, CA
“Great location, historic hotel with classy traditional rooms. Don't pay for internet; as WiFi is just across the street.” Aug 22, 2008 by
Kim from Galt, CA
“This was a fun girlfriends getaway and we all loved the hotel. It was charming and decorated around it's history. The lobby and ballroom (we peeked!) were beautiful. The location was so fun, right in the middle of Union Square.” Aug 15, 2008 by
Lori from New York, NY
“I enjoyed a 3 day stay at the Westin St. Francis. My room was ready, and oh so clean, hours before the 3pm check in. My only complaint is I was charged double for internet service, and snack food I did not eat, and the wrong name was on my bill! When I brought it to the attention of staff at the front desk, the errors were quickly changed.” Aug 4, 2008 by
Manish from Plano, TX
“This hotel needs serious updating - the rooms are out of the 80s.” 0 of 1 people found this review helpful.Aug 3, 2008 by

“The hotel was located right in the center next to unions square a great location. However one thing that is important for anybody who has a car, parking in that area is expensive. The second issues to be aware of is while the hotel has a certain charm being that it is in a building which is 104 years old (told to us by the friendly bellman) the rooms are the size of a building that is that old (small very small).” Jul 27, 2008 by
Jeff from Concord, CA
“Very disappointing. Four star hotels in the area have always provided us with great value and service, as well as premium rooms with water views. Our room was tiny, with the bed right next to the door. We got next to no sleep due to the noise from the elevators and cleaning staff.” Jul 25, 2008 by
Debbie&Phil from Catheys Valley, CA
“I will never stay here again. I will stay in the same area, but never that hotel. I waited two hours for our luggage, then had to search the hotel to get it. The restaurant was overpriced with very bad food. We got locked out of our room and were told it was our fault. We got attitude from anyone who we asked for assistance. We had to wait hours for roll away beds and then they took them away and questioned whether we really needed them. When we checked in, the room had candy wrappers on the floor and hair in the tub. Parking was too expensive.” Jul 24, 2008 by
Gregg from Fremont, CA
“I enjoyed myself.” Jul 24, 2008 by
Jason from Visalia, CA
“This hotel however did not meet my expectations. We were in what I am certain was the absolute smallest and oldest room they had which was dirty and not well maintained. Their idea of historic and ours are obviously very different! Also, at check in, front desk person indicated that my daughter would receive a (unsolicited) gift but they were out at the front desk and one would be delivered to our room. Whatever it was, it never arrived. Neither did the crib that we called down for and after a day of travel and waiting for it for well over an hour without success, we cancelled it and our daughter slept with us in the very small bed. However I believe it is not a very good hotel. The Park and Nikko are overall much better in my opinion.” Jul 24, 2008 by
Gwen from Boise, ID
“The service at this hotel was superior and the room was very nice and I loved the bed. They also upgraded our room at no cost. That being said, parking was $55 a night on top of the room, there was no microwave in the room and the only fridge was a minibar which I had to move everything out of to store milk and snacks for the kids. It was also downtown so getting into the place was a bit tricky. Overall, it was a very nice place to stay.” Jul 24, 2008 by
Claudia from Sacramento, CA
“Staff was excellent. Room wasn't ready until 5:30 although we tried checking in at 3pm. Room badly needs updating. Room floor was bowed and flexed as you walked across. Bathroom had wooden painted vanity that looked like plywood. Stained grout and caulking. Shower head didn't put out much pressure. Pipes creaked when toilet was flushed. Bath towels were not plush. No bathrobe. No 4 star amenities. Did have a nice large LG flat screen TV.” Jul 23, 2008 by
Roxane from Dublin, CA
“The hotel staff was excellent. When I notified the check in agent that I was celebrating my birthday, the front desk manager sent up a bottle of champagne and chocolate dipped strawberries!” Jul 23, 2008 by
M.R. from Newport Beach, CA
“The noisiest hotel I've ever stayed in. Paper thin walls, you can hear everything in the next room and hallway. Outdated interior. Ridiculous parking rates.” Jul 23, 2008 by
Darren from El Dorado Hills, CA
“Very nice hotel. Well located. Very quite. Room was small as it is in the original traditional tower.” Hotel Representatives:
