  • Perfect location.
  • Small room.

“The living space in the room was small. The bathroom was great, terrific shower. A lot of space was wasted with an oversize closet. The television was placed in an awkward spot in the room. You could not lay in bed and watch and had to sit in an uncomfortable chair and look up to see it. But what a perfect location in Union Square.”

  • Friendly check-in, easy checkout.

“Allowed to park for few minutes to pick up luggage but later imposed a restriction that driver should remain in seat. Which is OK, but not conveyed in a friendly manner. At that time, felt not like a guest.”

  • Location.
  • This hotel has a very poor service and arrogant personnel. You should take this hotel out of your list .

“Please take this hotel, Westin St. Francis, out of your list. We have had the worst service from the check-in to check-out. While checking in, when we asked the reception person about having a crib, she told us that the room would be too small to have a crib. We asked for a fridge and it took several hours for them to bring it, and the hotel person was very arrogant when we called him about when we would get it. We asked for room service and yet did not get it. When we called the housekeeping that day and told them that we did not get room service although we put a request sign on the door, they told us in an arrogant manner that we might not have gotten room service because we did not put the room service request sign on the door. It is a pity to see how bad management, staff, and personnel can turn a hotel of such quality, with great location, history, reputation, and architecture, into a poor hotel environment. We suggest that you either make sure that these people treat their customer with respect or take this hotel out of your list. We also believe that we deserve a compensation to make up for such a bad service we have received.”

  • The hotel upgraded to a king traditional room.
  • Pay for internet.

“We were very pleased with our stay at the Westin St Francis. The concierge provided excellent service and their recommendations were appreciated and enjoyed. As mentioned above, we were upgraded to a traditional king room - beyond what is usually available through Priceline.”

  • I liked our check in experience. Nice man.
  • The service in the OK. Room was terrible.

“We checked in with a very nice front desk agent, and he let us know that the type of room we had booked was sold out, so he upgraded us to a giant room. It was nice, but there was no bathtub and the wall was so thin that we could hear everything that our neighbor was saying. At 4 in the morning. Not cool. We had cocktails in the Clock Bar. Overpriced and just okay. For the price, I would have rather walked down to the Redwood Room in the Clift Hotel.”

  • Comfortable bed, responsive front desk staff, and best place to hail a cab.
  • Toilet had flushing issues, room was not cleaned until late afternoon, chair was not comfortable.

“Fabulous location in historic building as San Francisco as one could possibly get. Once inside - absolutely quiet. Parking fee of nearly $50 a day is extraordinary. Mini bar is laughable, you have ten seconds before you are charged!”

  • Check in staff was pleasant even when she needed to change my room 3 times.
  • 1st room had wet floor, 2nd room wasn't big enough for roll away bed, 3rd room I paid for an upgrade.

“Staff was aware of my needs and could have accommodated me on the first try. Instead, my first room had a wet floor, the second room was not large enough for a roll away bed. I ended up paying for an upgrade because I didn't want to walk back and fourth any longer. Each time my room was changed, I was the one walking all the way up to my room and then down again, kid, luggage and all. For a 4* hotel, I believe they could have stepped up to the plate better than they did.”

“I received an upgrade on arriving at the hotel. The only caveat being I was directly next to the elevators, which was a little noisy. However, the view from the 18th floor combined with the cleanliness and spaciousness of the room (surprising for downtown San Francisco) made for a fine stay.”

  • The location and the hotel were very nice but the room wasn't exactly up to par.
  • The room.

“The hotel, lobby, amenities, etc. were quit nice. However, I expected the room quality to be better. I realize I stayed in the basic, least expensive room, but I still think it should have been cleaner. The comforter was stained and there was hair in between the blankets and sheets. The bathroom was dusty.”

  • The location of the hotel was great!
  • Staff was unfriendly (lots of frowns).

“The hotel location was superb for easy access to public transportation and cable cars, shopping, theater and restaurants. Our standard room was small, yet comfortable with a flat screen TV and newer mattress and clean, high thread count cotton bedding. The historic building itself is large, warm, and welcoming.”

  • Location.
  • Room was the size of my closet. Not in good repair.

“While I am sure the hotel can live up to its reputation my experience did not. The room was the size of my closet at home and should not be used at all. There was not enough room for two night stands. No robes (which is standard at other Westin Hotels). It was an inside room with no view and no sunlight. Paint chipping in the bathroom. No soap for the shower. The room had an over sized double, a small desk, and a dresser that also housed the television. Love the area but hated the hotel.”

  • The location was perfect.
  • The room was small and so were the beds, we could hear the people in the rooms next to us loudly.

“The location was excellent, right in Union Square. However some of the staff was not friendly. They also charged $12 to use their gym. The walls are too thin and you can hear kids crying and people conducting business very loudly. I would not recommend it for a romantic getaway; it's okay if you won't be in the room much but not good to relax and sleep if that is your ultimate goal.”

  • The location was right on the trolley stop.
  • The room was claustrophobic.

“This hotel has a nice lobby and nice staff but that is where the pluses end. Our room fit the bed and a TV with barely any room to put our bags. It was so small, I felt claustrophobic even though I'm not. We asked for a bigger room and they gave us the same size room with a smaller bed in it! Also, their parking cost $56 a day not including the tip to the guys. It is completely ridiculous when you can Park down the street for $20 a day. The restaurants are super expensive and average at best. The lunch we ordered through the room service cost $60 for 2 burgers and took 1 1/2 hours to come. Skip this place.”

  • I loved the old world, historic charm amongst the hassle of the big city.
  • The parking was expense but that's what it is in the Union Square district.

“What a San Francisco tradition to stay at the St. Francis on Union Square! Our wonderful large, high ceiling room overlooked Union Square. We had thick, down comforters, the decor was elegant and the staff was very helpful and friendly. At first we were worried that our room was next to the elevators but we were in the original building with the thick walls but, never heard a thing and the fact that the elevator stop running from 10 pm – 6 am really helped keep things quiet. We could only hear the sounds of the cable cars outside our window and they were what San Francisco is all about!
