“Great hotel for the price I got on priceline. The rooms are extremely small, and I would not pay full price for the room.” Aug 28, 2009 by
Brian from Scottsdale,AZ
“While the hotel is located in an ideal location, right at Union Square with all the shopping and tourist attractions, the rooms are very old and small. Windows were small and faced the alley, so no natural light was let in and the room felt very enclosed. The bathroom was in serious need of a deep cleaning, if not a complete overhaul.” Aug 18, 2009 by
Jan from Thonotosassa,FL
“Magnificent old grand hotel, very well maintained, with wonderful, accommodating staff.” Jul 10, 2009 by
John from Palm Beach Gardens,FL
“Top notch service, great location, I will return.” Jun 15, 2009 by
David from Rego Park,NY
“Right next to Union Square and on Cable Car line by Market Street.” Jun 14, 2009 by
Katy from Boerne,TX
“The front desk staff was friendly, the rest were rude. The prices were outrageous, but the location and the looks of the hotel were great. Overall, it was a great deal can't have everything!” Jun 11, 2009 by
Donna from Modesto,CA
“Clean, friendly staff, room was small but comfortable.” Jun 10, 2009 by
Yin from New York,NY “They gave us a queen bed, but the price for a queen and a double double are exactly the same on Expedia...it's clean but incredibly small.” Jun 4, 2009 by
Pam from Magalia,CA
“Great location for shopping, dining, going to the ball park, and just enjoying city life.” May 29, 2009 by
Gail from Rye,NY
“Lovely hotel but I guess, they give you the smallest room available with no view. This was understandable although our room was really too small for two people.” May 29, 2009 by
Mary from Hayward,CA
“WOW! I was amazed and I'm not easily amazed. I thought they would stick us in one of the bargain rooms, like a closed next to the elevator but the corner room was May 29, 2009 by
John from Reno,NV
“Don't park here. There's a forced parking by attendant, a $50/day charge and a forced bellhop.” May 27, 2009 by
Burnette from North Branford,CT
“Fantastic location. Beautiful historic hotel with modern amenities including its restaurant and lounge. Friendly accommodating staff.” May 26, 2009 by
Kaye from Grass Valley,CA
“This hotel is awesome. It is located in the heart of Union Square, San Francisco, making it accessible to wonderful restaurants, live theatre, shopping, sight-seeing, etc. May 26, 2009 by
Norm from Reno,NV
“St Francis needs to be seriously updated. The lobby is cold and not very friendly. The piano bar is closed with plywood boards all over.” May 24, 2009 by
Jo Anne from Modesto,CA
“It's a great place to stay overall, but best if you pay their full price. My room was attractive and clean but didn't have that upscale feel you would expect even from a lower priced room at the St.Francis. The luxuries listed and shown on the hotels web site were not what I experienced.” May 24, 2009 by
Pablo from Washington,DC
“The room was okay, but not a 4 stars hotel. The corridors of the hotel make you feel that you are in an old Hospital. No style, no colors, depressing. My room's door was right next to another room's door and every time my neighbors opened and close the door I felt like they were in my own room. Small well-decorated room, but no closet space at all, I had to keep everything in my suitcase. I'm not picky about hotels, I just wanted to be able to sleep and I couldn't. It was a hospital experience. Big disappointment for a Westin Hotel.” May 22, 2009 by
Jen from Oakland,CA
“Wonderful mix of historic details and modern touches. The amenities are nice, the staff is helpful, and overall the hotel is lovely. The in house restaurants/bars are great (Oak Room). Also the Michael Mina restaurant and his Clock Bar are amazing and right in the hotel. Great location for a tourist-y visit, but also for business if you want a bustling spot.” May 22, 2009 by
Eileen from Staten Island,NY
“A beautiful old world hotel with superb service and luxurious accommodations. The staff I dealt with, at the front desk and concierge desk, was friendly and helpful. The common areas are lovely and comfortable, and my room was perfect. A magnificent bed and HDTV graced the room. Every detail seemed well thought out, from the thick comfy bathrobe to the double-headed shower. And the view of San Francisco was magnificent.” May 19, 2009 by
Luis from Sacramento,CA
“Even though this is a 4 star hotel, I would give it a 2.5 to 3. I didn't expect that I would be getting a luxury suite, but I also didn't expect a coat closet. And who charges for ice?” May 18, 2009 by
Andrew from Las Vegas,NV
“The living space in the room was small. The bathroom was great, terrific shower. A lot of space was wasted with an oversize closet. The television was placed in an awkward spot in the room. You could not lay in bed and watch and had to sit in an uncomfortable chair and look up to see it. But what a perfect location in Union Square.” May 16, 2009 by
Troi from Travis Afb,CA
“Highly recommend staying here. Right on Union Square.” May 14, 2009 by
Nancy from College Station,TX
“Allowed to park for few minutes to pick up luggage but later imposed a restriction that driver should remain in seat. Which is OK, but not conveyed in a friendly manner. At that time, felt not like a guest.” May 13, 2009 by
Hakan from Sacramento,CA
“Please take this hotel, Westin St. Francis, out of your list. We have had the worst service from the check-in to check-out. While checking in, when we asked the reception person about having a crib, she told us that the room would be too small to have a crib. We asked for a fridge and it took several hours for them to bring it, and the hotel person was very arrogant when we called him about when we would get it. We asked for room service and yet did not get it. When we called the housekeeping that day and told them that we did not get room service although we put a request sign on the door, they told us in an arrogant manner that we might not have gotten room service because we did not put the room service request sign on the door. It is a pity to see how bad management, staff, and personnel can turn a hotel of such quality, with great location, history, reputation, and architecture, into a poor hotel environment. We suggest that you either make sure that these people treat their customer with respect or take this hotel out of your list. We also believe that we deserve a compensation to make up for such a bad service we have received.” May 13, 2009 by
Derek from San Diego,CA
“Excellent room, friendly service. Had to pay extra for 2 beds.” May 7, 2009 by
Luis from Dorchester,MA “Great view and accommodations!” May 7, 2009 by
Linda from Edmonton,Canada
“We were very pleased with our stay at the Westin St Francis. The concierge provided excellent service and their recommendations were appreciated and enjoyed. As mentioned above, we were upgraded to a traditional king room - beyond what is usually available through Priceline.” May 7, 2009 by
from Brentwood,CA
“They where rude about the price and would not give me two beds.” May 6, 2009 by
Kathryn from Santa Rosa,CA
“Second week in a month we got the Westin St Francis and we loved it again.” May 5, 2009 by
Holly from Scottsdale,AZ
“We checked in with a very nice front desk agent, and he let us know that the type of room we had booked was sold out, so he upgraded us to a giant room. It was nice, but there was no bathtub and the wall was so thin that we could hear everything that our neighbor was saying. At 4 in the morning. Not cool. We had cocktails in the Clock Bar. Overpriced and just okay. For the price, I would have rather walked down to the Redwood Room in the Clift Hotel.” May 2, 2009 by
from Calistoga,CA “The room was small, but nice. Seemed updated. Room was also in a small, narrow corner of the building, with no access to sunlight due to being situated in an alley of the roof.” Apr 29, 2009 by
Felix from Elk Grove,CA “Good location and nice staff. Close to everything China Town, Little Italy, Trolley.” Apr 29, 2009 by
Adam from Anaheim,CA
“Very nice historic hotel. Was upgraded to a room in the tower upon check in. Nice room staff was a tad bit snooty and stuck up.” Apr 29, 2009 by
Robert from Rancho Palos Verdes,CA
“Great location, dated but quaint rooms.” Apr 29, 2009 by
Joy from Saint Helena,CA
“Fabulous location in historic building as San Francisco as one could possibly get. Once inside - absolutely quiet. Parking fee of nearly $50 a day is extraordinary. Mini bar is laughable, you have ten seconds before you are charged!” Apr 27, 2009 by
Diana from Everett,WA
“Staff was aware of my needs and could have accommodated me on the first try. Instead, my first room had a wet floor, the second room was not large enough for a roll away bed. I ended up paying for an upgrade because I didn't want to walk back and fourth any longer. Each time my room was changed, I was the one walking all the way up to my room and then down again, kid, luggage and all. For a 4* hotel, I believe they could have stepped up to the plate better than they did.” Apr 25, 2009 by
Cheyenne from San Jose,CA
“I was pushed back into the elevator by a staff member and the clerk at the front desk was snotty and rude and unresponsive to my complaint.” Apr 24, 2009 by
Brian from Sacramento,CA
“The St. Francis is indeed a Union Square icon, and stays in the past have been incredible. This trip around the room was incredibly small, and the air conditioner was noisy.” Apr 24, 2009 by
Thomas from El Dorado,AR
“Great hotel with specticular views of the city.” 0 of 1 people found this review helpful.Apr 22, 2009 by
Jennifer from Sacramento,CA “I received an upgrade on arriving at the hotel. The only caveat being I was directly next to the elevators, which was a little noisy. However, the view from the 18th floor combined with the cleanliness and spaciousness of the room (surprising for downtown San Francisco) made for a fine stay.” Apr 22, 2009 by
Rosario from Houston,TX
“The location is amazing. Right in the heart of shopping in San Francisco. The concierge was very helpful with providing areas of interest, directions and alternative methods of transportation. The rooms were delightful and what I expect from a Westin.” Apr 21, 2009 by
Liv from San Jose,CA
“We enjoyed the elegant surroundings and international crowd. Very comfortable for our quick weekend getaway.” Apr 20, 2009 by
CC from Merced,CA
“The hotel, lobby, amenities, etc. were quit nice. However, I expected the room quality to be better. I realize I stayed in the basic, least expensive room, but I still think it should have been cleaner. The comforter was stained and there was hair in between the blankets and sheets. The bathroom was dusty.” Apr 19, 2009 by
Josephine from Atascadero,CA
“This is a very old, luxury hotel with all of the latest upgrades. The walls were thin, but we brought our own music with speakers, so we were okay. Great selection of in-room movies, convenient location with trustworthy valet parking. Walking distance from everything!” Apr 18, 2009 by
Alisa from Santa Cruz,CA “It was awful.” Apr 17, 2009 by
Sujin from Fort Lee,NJ
“Extremely good location especially for shopping lovers, next to cable car stop and muni/bart station. Wall is extremely thin and you will know what happens in the next room in detail and vice versa.” Apr 17, 2009 by
Lori from Modesto,CA
“Perfect location for sightseeing. Very comfortable, although small, room.” Apr 17, 2009 by
Michael from Concord,CA
“Beautiful downstairs small room-miserable soundproofing.” Apr 15, 2009 by
Carol from Sacramento,CA
“Great location, lovely room, and comfy bed.” Apr 14, 2009 by
Rich from Richmond,CA
“The hotel location was superb for easy access to public transportation and cable cars, shopping, theater and restaurants. Our standard room was small, yet comfortable with a flat screen TV and newer mattress and clean, high thread count cotton bedding. The historic building itself is large, warm, and welcoming.”
