“This hotel is not a 4 star.” Jul 26, 2008 by
Clover from Cloverdale, CA
“Stanford Court is beginning a much needed facelift. The room was not a renovated room. Worn carpets, no air conditioning and no service to fix it. No public transportation other than cable car, which is always full. Steep hills are a challenge for walking to dine or get around to sight see.” Jul 23, 2008 by
Deanna from Aptos, CA
“We would stay here again.” Jul 17, 2008 by
Ken from Sunnyvale, CA
“I have little doubt that the Stanford Court will be 4-5 stars and an excellent place to stay, Once the renovation is complete. It's a bit of a mess right now, and our experience being awoken Monday morning at 6am by construction workers using the hallway and adjacent stairwell as a thoroughfare for equipment and personnel - despite the fact that no construction was being done on our floor and with no regard for guests on our floor, and with absolutely nothing done by the front desk or management to fix the situation.” Jul 15, 2008 by
Louis from Houston, TX
“Very nice and friendly staff, but room looked very old with only one Queen bed, even the soap and shampoo seemed from the 80's.On first floor, and there is no view at all. Decent hotel but definitely doesn't deserve 4 stars, especially while under remodeling.” Jul 14, 2008 by
Choi from Kirkland, WA
“This hotel is located in Powell & CA ST, which is good location. Even though they did remodeling recently, overall the hotel still looks outdated. The rooms were clean but the staffs were not friendly. I would not stay at this hotel next time.” Jul 14, 2008 by
Steve from Weaverville, CA
“The hotel was as best, hotels was under construction.” Jul 12, 2008 by

“Excellent location. Rooms were small, but attractive. Once the renovations are complete this will be a very nice hotel.” Jul 9, 2008 by
Sybil from Charlotte, NC
“The hotel is undergoing construction. None of the hotel restaurants or amenities was available for usage.” Jul 8, 2008 by
Dan from Santa Clara, CA
“Small, but newly remodeled rooms. Comfortable beds, no noise and a sleek, simple design. Room does not come with refrigerator or traditional coffee pot to make tea/coffee. So you'll have to order hot water from room service. Which took over 30 min to have delivered. Parking is expensive.$45/day. Great location, Nob Hill next to the landmark Mark Hopkins Hotel. If you are in shape. Walk to China Town or Union Square. No hot tub or swimming pool.” Jul 3, 2008 by
Mimi from Piedmont, CA
“The hotel was in a great location, friendly staff, and a newly remodeled room. However, there still was construction going on, a little disorganized and street noise was heard at night.” Jul 3, 2008 by
Janet from Owings Mills, MD
“Staff was very accommodating. Rooms were small but well furnished.” Jul 2, 2008 by
Loretta from Los Angeles, CA
“The staff was very helpful and accommodating, and the location was wonderful. The newly remodeled rooms were nicely decorated.” Jul 2, 2008 by
Brandon from San Jose, CA
“Great hotel. Great place to stay.” Jul 2, 2008 by
Carol from Laguna Beach, CA
“If the hotel is going to operate without a lobby, something should be substituted. Free coffee was served from pots in the morning but no other niceties were offered. Very unfriendly, grim, help. Room was small, didn't know where the coffee pot was, etc. Map of city provided was very small and inadequate.” Jun 16, 2008 by
Roger from Chandler, AZ
“The hotel was undergoing renovations when we were there, so the famous lobby mural and the four upper floors were unavailable. The rooms were obviously older, and somewhat small, even when compared to say a Hampton Inn. The lobby staff and concierge were very helpful, arranging for a one-day rental car to be delivered to the hotel and helping us find our way on the cable car and trolley lines. The concierge did give us a bum steer on a recommendation for a restaurant in Chinatown, though. It was all non-Asian tourist types at the restaurant, the food was mediocre, and they charged for rice and tea! Stay away from the Oriental Pearl! The location of this hotel could not be better. It is at the intersection of the city's 2 main cable car lines, and right next to the famous Top of the Mark! I would love to come and stay there again after they have finished the renovations, to get the full experience.” Jun 16, 2008 by
Joann from Fresno, CA
“Very nice upscale hotel, the room was smaller than most 4 star hotels but extremely clean. Housekeeping staff that answered the phone was abrupt but ended up being helpful.” Jun 15, 2008 by
David from Kailua-Kona, HI
“Great location; helpful, friendly and knowledgeable employees; clean and attractive room.” Jun 9, 2008 by
Renee from Reno, NV
“Small rooms recently remodeled. The best service I have had in years!” Jun 9, 2008 by
Wendi from Tracy, CA
“Wonderful place to stay. Staff was very helpful and hotel is very well upwept.” Jun 9, 2008 by
Crystal from Lions Bay, BC CA
“This hotel is a bit of history in San Fran. - in the midst of upgrading and renovations. Awesome location, very efficient and courteous staff.” Jun 9, 2008 by
Nate from Springville, UT
“$51 a night for parking, and early morning wake up call provided by hammers on the wall. Not what we where expecting, but the room was nice.” Jun 9, 2008 by
Russell from Atlanta, GA
“The hotel was undergoing renovation.” Jun 8, 2008 by
Ian from Vancouver, BC CA
“A well located property in a desirable neighborhood but a bit of a hike up from the main shopping areas. The hotel was starting some needed updating renovations during my stay so some of the lobby facilities were a little basic, and the room a bit dated. The hotel gym was pleasingly comprehensive and well-maintained.” Jun 7, 2008 by
Tracy from Houston, TX
“Well located hotel. Within walking distance of many major tourist spots. The rooms were small and the air conditioner did not work very well. Also, the hotel did not offer very much in terms of services. Overall, we had a good experience.” Jun 5, 2008 by
David from Ventura, CA
“Great design in an excellent location. Across the street is the Tonga Room, around since the 40's and a short walk to a multitude of great venues for shopping, eating and more. Close by is the new Le Club, great place for a late night rendezvous. Nob Hill Cafe is nearby and one of the best places for Italian cuisine we have experienced.” Jun 5, 2008 by
Michelle from Sacramento, CA
“Great location though it's on top of the hill.” Jun 4, 2008 by
Sean from Danbury, CT
“Hotel is older, but still nice. Was undergoing renovation during my stay, so I got a first floor room with a view of the parking lot. Would consider going back after renovations are completed.” Jun 4, 2008 by
Andrew R. from Vernon, CA
“The hotel was great, but the lobby was under construction.” Jun 4, 2008 by
Michael from Chico, CA
“Liked the hotel, and they are in the process of remodeling, but our room could not be rated a 4 star room. Also air conditioner did not work.” Jun 3, 2008 by
Apryl from Winston Salem, NC
“Outstanding service. Great location.” Jun 3, 2008 by
Debbie from Rowlett, TX
“Located near Nob hill which is fine if you like to do a lot of walking. However, we discovered we preferred activities near the wharf. Great hotel staff, met our every need. Fabulous restaurant with extremely attentive personnel. Hotel is currently being remodeled, but it didn't bother us at all.” Jun 3, 2008 by
Steve from Yucaipa, CA
“This hotel is now on my list as a wonderful place to stay.” May 27, 2008 by
Diana from Huntington Beach, CA
“Soon to be lovely.” May 27, 2008 by
Lanette from Amherst, MA
“Hotel was undergoing noisy construction and had no heat and no wireless internet. Parking was $45 a day (high even by the high standards of San Francisco). The engineer who came to our room to fix the heat and get the internet to work tried hard to please but seemed to know very little about computers and kept giving us extraneous instructions (such as, "Make sure it's plugged in"). He also wound up giving us a space heater (which looked very old and unsafe) because he couldn't get the room heat to work at all -- and he mentioned that many people were complaining as there seemed to be no heat throughout the hotel. The top four floors of the hotel were closed for renovations, the drilling was mind-blowingly loud, the business center was closed down because of the noise of the drilling, and the sound of the wind against our corner-room windows sounded like something out of a horror movie. Half the dresser drawers wouldn't open because they were banged up against the desk. Also, the windowless basement fitness center felt isolated and a bit unsafe for a woman alone. The positives: the valet, concierge, maids and desk staff members were all super helpful and friendly. The bedding was outstanding, with super high thread count sheets and downy pillows and comforters. The trolleys went in both directions right outside the doors of the hotel, which was very convenient.” May 26, 2008 by
Mary from Pebble Beach, CA
“The hotel is being remodeled so any review would be incomplete. The service was warm and professional and the beds were extremely comfortable. Despite the remodel, there was minimal noise.” May 26, 2008 by
Maureen from La Crescenta, CA
“At this point, I would highly not recommend this hotel. The hotel is in full renovation. The noise is horrible and there are no public areas. The location is undesirable because it sits upon knob hill not really close to anything with a very difficult hike to get up the hill from any direction. The rooms that are available are incredibly dated and small. The furniture was at least 15-20 years old. Not a 4 star, more like a bad 2 star.” May 25, 2008 by
Sue from St Joseph, MO
“I am going to skip over the slight inconvenience the remodeling is doing, because it will soon be over and it was very slight. When they are done this will again be a top class luxury hotel that I will be privileged to stay again. 2 blocks from Chinatown (straight up on the way back), at the crossroads of 2 cable car lines, a few blocks from Union Square shopping and dining, and a few blocks from the Wild Hustle and Bustle of Market Street. Although we did not ask for help since we were with a native San Franciscan and had been here many times, the concierges seemed to know everything they were questioned about by some 1st time international travelers and were happy to share their knowledge. All of the rest of the staff with one exception were kind and smiling and helpful. No bums hanging around here is a big plus if you have small children, but there is nothing much for your small children to do but watch TV. Very clean and can't wait to see it after the renovation.” May 23, 2008 by
Scott from Modesto, CA
“The ongoing renovations put a damper on our recent weekend trip. The room was spacious and well appointed, while the public spaces in the hotel felt cramped and unwelcoming.” May 22, 2008 by
Ron from Redondo Beach, CA
“This hotel was nothing approaching the standards of a Renaissance hotel that I am accustomed to. Add to that the ongoing construction that was not disclosed until I checked in. The very meager savings was just to worth it.” May 21, 2008 by
peggy from new jersey
“First night we were up all night room situated in driveway lot of noise, Water in bathroom sink only trickled out took forever just to brush your teeth. Changed room for the next 3 nights air conditioning did not work was given a fan was advised by Engineer since hotel under renovation air-conditioner system was not working properly. Had to sleep with open windows and heard the Trolley all the time. However, the staff was wonderful. Manager did comp us by taking off the parking fee from our bill and also free breakfast, he was very nice about the situation. I felt we should have had the first night stay credited since we spend 4 nights there and could not sleep for two of them. Staff and service from them was wonderful possible, this was a bad time to stay there.” May 20, 2008 by
Brent from Lewisville, TX
“The Stanford Court is perfectly located directly on the cable car route between Market Street, North Beach, Fisherman's Wharf, whatever you need. The top of the Mark club is virtually next door, and my wife and I loved the cheesy, yet playful Tonga Room across the street. The staff was more than accommodating and they never failed to go above the call of duty. We will definitely stay here on our next visit.” May 15, 2008 by
Jennifer from San Diego, CA
“This hotel was in a great location walking distance to lots of restaurants, China Town, Little Italy and shopping. The restaurant was beautiful, had top notch service and the food was great. Parking fees are ridiculous at $51 per night (it was cheaper at a private lot just two blocks down the street). It was also a completely non-smoking hotel. Great for non smokers but inconvenient for us. The hotel was going through major renovations and it needed a little face lift for sure.” May 14, 2008 by
Gabriela from San Francisco, CA
“As a former hospitality manager, I still look at hotels from a professional stand point. This Renaissance property was very nice for the price. I had a lovely room with a great canopy bed and silk-like bedding. All the bathroom sundries were the top of the line, and all was very clean and inviting. I could live without housekeeping knocking on my door at 9 AM on Sunday, knowing that check out is noon and having reports from checked-out rooms! Next time, I will put the privacy sign out. Overall, a nice hotel, skilled and friendly staff, and I will return.” May 14, 2008 by
Ann from Paradise, CA
“This hotel far exceeded our expectations. It's an older hotel, going through a complete, upscale renovation (though we never heard or saw any workers). The blend of the charming older elements with the new elegant and comfortable upgrades was delightful. We had a room (free upgrade!) that looked out on Powell St., it's cable car line, the Bay and the Transamerica building. Just lovely! The windows open for a refreshing breeze. When closed, you can barely hear the street noise. Room service was very quick and attentive. The food was delicious and attractively arranged. You can tell, this is our new favorite hotel when we go to SF to visit friends. We've stayed at lots of SF hotels, by the way, and we will definitely stay here again.” Hotel Representatives:
