• It was old, tired, loud and cramped.

“The Prescott may have been OK in its day. The room was tiny and loud. The restaurant was only open for breakfast ( under renovation the rest of the day/eve) and the wait staff was not well trained. There really was no lobby or place to make a quiet call.”

• The staff was very friendly and the beds were very comfortable.
• The rooms are very small. Mildew in shower area. Hotel's website is misleading as to what rooms look like. No pool.

“The staff was very friendly and helpful, but the room was extremely small and was not a reflection of what I saw on the hotel's own website. I was disappointed to find out that a 4-star hotel did not have a pool or spa. Housekeeping knocked on the door at 9:00 am which seems really early. On a positive note, the bed was really comfortable.”

• The location was great for anyone looking to spend most of their time around Union Square/SoMA.

“The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable of the local area, the location of the hotel was great, and although it doesn't have its own garage, there is a relatively inexpensive place that provides 24hour parking next door. My only complaint is it did not feel as luxurious as it could have. It's probably time for a fresh paint of coat, new flooring, and more modern appliances in the rooms. Putting a coffee maker in the rooms wouldn't hurt either.”

“I would recommend this hotel if you are a couple. The rooms are a bit small for more than 2 people. It is in prime location--everything is walking distance. The cable cars are right around the corner. The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. They were great! The hotel is very nice and clean. We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel.”

• The hotel was very clean.
• In the lounge they wouldn't put on the baseball playoffs!

“Clean and quiet with a helpful and friendly staff. The breakfast was great with lots of choices. The hotel is easy to get to from public transportation and located near shop, restaurants and tourist destinations. A great experience overall. I would love to return when NOT on a business trip.

• Very friendly staff.
• The bed was very uncomfortable - you could feel each spring, it was so terrible.

“You would think that with the 4 start and the clean interior they would have put a bit more money into the beds for the room. Our bed was extremely uncomfortable - I was not able to sleep all night. In addition, our sheets had stains on it, and holes in it. Not 4 star quality.”

• Small, uncomfortable.

“The room was extremely small. The TV was so small it couldn't be watched comfortably while sitting at the table. The low window had no screen and if open you could easily fall out. The people across the way - out the window - were sitting in their window staring at us constantly. There were dried spills on the table. The bed was definitely not a queen. I'd say a full. With a 6'4" man, it is not too cozy.”

• Location was good. Other than that this was a 2 star hotel.
• Small Unattractive Rooms, Expensive Valet, Not 4 Star Service at All.

“Location is good, other than that nothing else good to say. This is not a 4 star by any means. Rooms are unattractive and small carpet was coming off of the floor in our room bath tub took 20 minuets to drain after showering. Also expensive valet parking 45.00 a day other hotels where 35.00 at most. I would not recommend this hotel at all. I.”

“In calling the hotel ahead of time, the absolutely would not divulge the type of room we would have. Because we had 2 adults and 2 children, we needed two beds. The room was very small. My kids had to sleep on a hard floor. We waited for extra blankets for them for 45 minutes. I would never stay there again.”

• Bed was somewhat hard. Small room.

• Great suite. Excellent location. Proximity to Union Square.
• To get to Club Level, you have to go up elevator, get off on 4th floor, then walk through ramp to Club Level and take another elevator.

“I would rate this hotel more as a boutique style hotel, but definitely 4-star. The staff was helpful, and friendly. The hotel was located in a central area, within walking distance of good restaurants and the meeting place where I was headed. I would definitely stay here again.”

• I liked the location, the 5 o'clock refreshments, the room itself and the bellhop was friendly and helpful.
• The reservation staff, in my opinion was not very friendly.

• We enjoyed the wine reception.
• The elevators were both broken; staff was not helpful.

“We would not recommend this hotel based on our experience. The elevators were both broken. The staff was not helpful in any way, shape, or form. The room did not look like a four-star hotel. Our climate control did not work so we were either freezing or boiling all night. The front desk did not seem to care in the slightest that we did not get any sleep.”

• Bed was tiny, was not a queen size, more like a full size. Wireless didn't work, drapes didn't work, in room safe didn't work, check-in staff rude.

• Cost of parking. We parked elsewhere for 1/2 the price.

“A small upscale hotel in the heart of San Francisco, just steps from Union Square, great shopping, theaters, restaurants, and galleries. Near cable cars and BART station. Comfortable and convenient.”

“This is a boutique hotel, so do not expect a Hilton, Sheraton, Hyatt, Meridian type of place. The location was central, however we had to check out late and were hit with a steep charge. The rooms are quite small and the floors are squeaky.”

“We met with a family group (eight plus we two) at our hotel before dinner at the adjoining restaurant (Postrio). The hotel staff bent over backwards to make our meeting and our entire stay an extremely pleasurable experience. The food and service at Postrio was also outstanding.”

• Very helpful staff, upscale look and feel, great restaurant.
• Small rooms, a few too many homeless in the area, but that's union square for you.

“I'd definitely stay here again. The rooms were small but beautiful, clean, and comfortable. The Prescott has a private club level with an excellent breakfast and happy hour daily. We weren't members but the front desk slipped us an access card anyhow. It was great. The restaurant is amazing. Try the Mac & Cheese with Proscutto. My only complaint is that there were a lot of homeless in the area around the hotel, but then again, that's what you can expect in Union Sq. The neighborhood is fun despite that. Lots of restaurants, art, & shopping.”

• The Staff was friendly.
• The room was small and not a safe feeling as the window was left unlocked. The bed was not a 4 star bed.

“The staff was friendly however when I think of a 4 star hotel this would not come to mind. The windows were left unlocked with a fire escape located at one of the windows. The bed was so hard we could have slept on the floor and it would have been softer. The bathroom was caulked together. It had an older feel that I did not mind, however it looked like it was newly re-decorated but not re-furnished or maintained well in the past but now is. The hotel was not at all geared toward anyone with kids of any age. With that said the staff was extremely friendly and that was a huge perk for our stay. I can't say enough good things about the staff; they were great with my daughter. Safety would be rated as a 2 star due to the windows not locking and the fire escape right at the window. Also starting at 7 am there was construction which lasted until 5pm. The construction was not at the hotel itself but was outside the window. The view was as expected for a city hotel. The extra's that generally come with a 4 star was not included; everything was at an additional charge if they offered it at all.”
