• Shampoo soap etc. were nice.
• Bed was tiny, was not a queen size, more like a full size. Wireless didn't work, drapes didn't work, in room safe didn't work, check-in staff rude.

• Terrific location, comfortable, upscale boutique hotel.
• Cost of parking. We parked elsewhere for 1/2 the price.

• Unreasonable charge for late checkout.

“This is a boutique hotel, so do not expect a Hilton, Sheraton, Hyatt, Meridian type of place. The location was central, however we had to check out late and were hit with a steep charge. The rooms are quite small and the floors are squeaky.”

“We met with a family group (eight plus we two) at our hotel before dinner at the adjoining restaurant (Postrio). The hotel staff bent over backwards to make our meeting and our entire stay an extremely pleasurable experience. The food and service at Postrio was also outstanding.”

• Very helpful staff, upscale look and feel, great restaurant.
• Small rooms, a few too many homeless in the area, but that's union square for you.

“I'd definitely stay here again. The rooms were small but beautiful, clean, and comfortable. The Prescott has a private club level with an excellent breakfast and happy hour daily. We weren't members but the front desk slipped us an access card anyhow. It was great. The restaurant is amazing. Try the Mac & Cheese with Proscutto. My only complaint is that there were a lot of homeless in the area around the hotel, but then again, that's what you can expect in Union Sq. The neighborhood is fun despite that. Lots of restaurants, art, & shopping.”

• The Staff was friendly.
• The room was small and not a safe feeling as the window was left unlocked. The bed was not a 4 star bed.

“The staff was friendly however when I think of a 4 star hotel this would not come to mind. The windows were left unlocked with a fire escape located at one of the windows. The bed was so hard we could have slept on the floor and it would have been softer. The bathroom was caulked together. It had an older feel that I did not mind, however it looked like it was newly re-decorated but not re-furnished or maintained well in the past but now is. The hotel was not at all geared toward anyone with kids of any age. With that said the staff was extremely friendly and that was a huge perk for our stay. I can't say enough good things about the staff; they were great with my daughter. Safety would be rated as a 2 star due to the windows not locking and the fire escape right at the window. Also starting at 7 am there was construction which lasted until 5pm. The construction was not at the hotel itself but was outside the window. The view was as expected for a city hotel. The extra's that generally come with a 4 star was not included; everything was at an additional charge if they offered it at all.”

“Once nice, the Prescott has become shabby and run down, with a rude staff. We were given a small, musty, awful room and a lot of attitude when we asked (nicely) to change. Breakfast is very expensive with terrible service. .”

• Room we got was like a maid's quarters, very tiny.

“Hotel was conveniently located and quite cute but we were disappointed with the room. Our window looked out over the lower floor's skylight and was closely surrounded by buildings. Very dingy and felt , no light.”

“This hotel has the best location for any traveler if they are looking to see what San Francisco is about. This hotel has great accommodating amenities such as free internet, gym facility, and even pet care. However, to state that this hotel is a 4 star might be pushing it. Easily a 3 star. Location again is the best in the entire city!”

• Fresh baked cookies at check-in; free wine hour at night; chocolate on pillows; nice!
• Parking was expensive ~ $45 for small cars; $65 for oversized ~ plus tax!

“The staff were extremely friendly and the space was small but very nice. The linens were comfortable, they offered fresh baked cookies at check in and a free wine reception in the evening. We would absolutely stay there again.”

• Relatively quiet for smallish hotel and location. My room was toward the back, which I think made the difference.
• Elevators were VERY slow and small.

“This is definitely a boutique hotel. Their website proudly calls it as such. It is probably a 4 star hotel as well. I personally don't care for boutique hotels, and this was no exception. They tend to feel small and cramp-ish for my taste.”

• Customer Service was GREAT and the location was very convenient to Union Square.
• I did not like the small rooms, loud creaking wood floor, and small boutique feel.

“I really liked the staff at this hotel. They were very customer service friendly. In addition, I liked the location of the hotel which was convenient to union square. I would rather stay at the Hilton on O'Farrell, but this was the only one available for the day I selected.”

• The service was good but only because it took 3 irons to find one that worked.
• Small room, carpet had folds, bathroom slanted.

“When I select a 4 star hotel I am not expecting to get a boutique hotel with some trendy decorations. This was clearly not 4 star accommodations. The hotel staff was great and of course it is next to a famous restaurant but it is clearly a 3 or maybe even 2.5 star hotel. The bathroom was actually slanted enough that you could feel yourself moving towards a corner. The room was small, 20 in. TV, carpet had major folds in it, tile in the bathroom was not very well done, and the iron was so badly scorched that I had to ask for another. It took two more irons to get one that worked. Just a disappointment all around for a 4 star hotel. I was a bit embarrassed since I had a relatively new girlfriend with me, especially when we visited my friend at the Hilton. I'm concerned about using your service in the future if this is what I can expect from a 4 star category hotel.”

“A nice hotel in a fantastic location. The wine and beer happy hour was a great add to an already enjoyable stay. The rooms are a little sparse, but comfortable. I would probably rate the hotel 3.5* rather than 4*.”

• The peeling wall paper in the bathroom and the black edge of the white shower curtain.

“This hotel is very quaint and situated in the middle of excellent shopping. The Christmas decorations were lovely. Our room was quite small, and our view was horrible. The shower curtain liner should have been replaced due to mildew damage. The front desk people seemed hesitant to upgrade our room although I reserved a room for three people; we were given a room with one queen bed. After conservation between the two front desk people they upgraded our room to "club" level for no extra charge. While the service was good, it seemed a bit reluctant.”

• The room was clean and tasteful and the staff was very helpful and friendly.
• After forgetting our toothpaste, the hotel charged $5 for a tube.

“The hotel far exceeded our expectations. We were able to get a fantastic price for the room and were pleasantly surprised with the high quality of the hotel. The room could have been a bit larger, but it worked out just fine. It was clean and nicely decorated, and the location was perfect just blocks away from union square. We'll definitely be back!”

“Even though the room was in a beautiful hotel, it felt like a discounted room, however, I would stay there again. The price was good for the location and the location was a block from Union Square. The staff was wonderful, very friendly and knowledgeable about the surrounding areas.”

• Only size beds available, & hard at that. Hotel takes pets, as does a kennel.

“Location great, but that's it. Not a 4 star, but a cheaper boutique. Pets/dogs a complete turnoff. No coffee in room, hard beds. Misleading from calling this a 4 star. Makes me rethink my plans for next year. No way would this ever be considered a 4 star.”

• Great location, very reasonable price, nice room and excellent toiletries.

“When the hotel found out we were celebrating our wedding anniversary they surprised us with a chilled bottle of champagne and two little boxes of chocolates (for free) in our room. They were great! I wouldn't hesitate to stay their again.”

• Sorry, did not like anything at all.
• Room smelled very bad, tiny elevator, no water in shower.

“I have stayed at over 10 hotels in the city. This is by far the worst, and I would not recommend it to anyone. The room smelled very bad, had a lumpy queen bed, very small bathroom with a shower that very little water came out of, not even enough to shower with. Very small TV, no phone book, couldn't find room service menu. Overall, an awful hotel. I would rate it a 3-star boutique at very best!”
