• Very well run, attractive activities, clean, excellent staff and location.
• My spouse was in a wheelchair due to an injury - The hotel room was a bit small and the bathroom not fit for a wheelchair.

“We were incredibly impressed with the Serrano staff, the hotel building, the activities. The staff made every effort to make the visitors feel like they belong to the Kimpton community. There were kid friendly activities (games and a Wii station). The location is great. We did not try the concierge services or room service but I am certain we would have not been disappointed. The beds, linen, pillows and toiletries are top quality - I know it's funny, but I could sleep on the hotel pillows - I usually travel with my pillow. The hotel is very elegant all throughout - made me very interested about the Kimpton club. There is coffee in the lobby in the morning, a wine tasting break in the afternoon.... I mean, these people know how to make you feel part of something great. I think we were very lucky to have had the opportunity to stay at this hotel. Thank you priceline !”

• The games theme was really a nice touch. Whenever we had to wait in the lobby we would play Jenga! It was fun.
• You must pay for use of the internet in their business center.

“Overall, a great hotel. We very much enjoyed our stay. Our room was spacious and clean. Hotel staff was very kind and friendly. Games theme and wine tasting in the evenings were a great touch. Would definately stay here again. My only quam is paying almost $6 for 15 minutes of internet use at their business center. Certain hotels offer the first 15 minutes for free.”

• The location was close to Union Square.
• It had no pool nor hot tubs.

“The room was clean and cozy. Parking was available next door at a fair rate. The staff was friendly and offered good directions to the places we wanted to see. Overall, a very good experience.”

• (With the exception of one employee) The service was excellent!
• The room was smaller than expected, but it was very clean and comfortable.

“Two double beds in a small room was very tight. Would have preferred a queen or king, but they didn't have one they said. First room they put me in, had cigarette smell so they switched me without a complaint. Bathtub was very narrow so hard to take a shower.”

• Nice boutique Hotel. Like the free wine between 5 - 6 pm.
• Bathroom way too small.

“The Serrano is a nice boutique hotel situated in the SF Theater District. It seems every time we visit, without knowing what's playing, we just walk down the street to the Curran theater and get tickets to a great show. Staff is friendly, services are good, restaurant is very good as is the Grand Cafe next door.”

• A little close to the Tenderloin.

“The Serranto is a gem: upscale feel, friendly staff, good restaurant on site. It's very close to Union Square -- but do be careful about straying into the Tenderloin, which is nearby.”

• Gorgeous decorations, really unique atmosphere.
• The staff was a little spacey - not always on top of it.

“I loved this hotel! I stayed in a two room deluxe suite with a view of the city, so the room was nice and large. The room was spotless, the bed very comfy, and the decor very charming. Overall, I had a great stay. It's only about a block or so to Union Square which is really nice. If you are willing to pay more for a "boutique" experience that is not your average Hilton, stay here!”

• The decor and the comfort of the beds were great!
• The rooms were tiny (but it's an historic building).

“The best word to describe this Kimpton property is fun and comfy. The decor is a little wild, but very well done. The beds are super comfy. The place was spotless - very clean. And the staff was great. Because it's an older, historic building, the rooms are a little small. I don't mind this, and indeed it helps give this place some of its boutique charm, but if you prefer otherwise, you might look elsewhere (or perhaps inquire about their larger rooms).”

• The decor was plush and inviting, and the bed was so very comfortable. The staff went the extra mile to be of assistance to us.
• I had no complaints.

“The hotel staff greeted us every time we entered the hotel and were highly accommodating to us. I liked that we had a parking garage directly next to the hotel. They allowed us to check in early as our room was ready so we could go sight seeing, and suggested we leave our luggage in their storage room while we finished sightseeing after we had checked out as our car would still be in the parking garage. Very convenient.”

“This Kimpton property was very nice. Our rooms were spacious and the Aveda bath products were a nice touch. We also received a 25% discount on parking as we drive a hybrid. We'd definitely stay here again - one of our top San Francisco experiences.”

“Ok if you can't get other hotels in Union Square or the embarcadero. This hotel pales in comparison to other Kempton hotels in SF; the Palomar is much better. The room was small, and parking extremely expensive. Food was great, though. Not in the safest area of Union Square or SF.”

• TV in my room was so old the picture was distorted and it made a high-pitch squeal when I watched it.

“Great location, just blocks away from Union Square. The bed is so comfortable, it's deadly (you won't want to get out of it!). Bathroom is clean, towels are thick and soft. Aveda products, nice.”

• The mattress was excellent! Office chair very comfy, too.
• King bed was too big for room felt cramped.

“Convenient location, very convenient parking garage nearly adjacent, excellent water pressure, excellent mattress. Sketchy blocks to southwest, lovely blocks to northeast, easy to avoid the sketchy parts. Good coffee in the lobby in the am. Hotel staff hardly said hello to me after my initial check-in (I stayed five days). Not unkind or unhelpful, just reticent.”

• In room coffee or tea would have been a bonus - trouble finding seating at cocktail hour.

“The hotel exceed expectations largely due to the staff. From the minute we walked in the door, people were friendly, inviting and approachable. Those traits are hard to find in most businesses and very much appreciated. I would come back in a heartbeat and look forward to staying at another Kempton hotel.”

• Wine reception, intimate. The doormen were very knowledgeable about San Fran and helpful.
• Concierge always wanted to push tours and were not as helpful as I would have liked.

• The location was great for walking to great restaurants, the Theatre, Chinatown, and Downtown and Union Square shopping.
• Valet only parking $50 per night. The walls were a bit thin; we could hear the voices coming from the room next to us.

• The hotel even offers heating pads, robes, slippers and lighted make-up mirror.
• The rooms are standard size for an older hotel in San Francisco.

• The room I was assigned was so small it made me claustrophobic.

“Great and accommodating people. Easy to skip the visit to the recommended restaurant (Panzer). I could of parked across the street or elsewhere for less. The Staff were the best with accommodating us. The one security staff member was rude and abrupt when asked a simple question about the restaurant hours. I felt I had to apologize about the room size when my partner arrived to see the room.”

• The hotel was very convenient to public transport, shopping, car rental, china town, etc.
• The local is great. It's across from the Hilton but you have to aware of the drugs and homeless.

“This hotel was overall very nice. It does border the tender loin section of the city which is full of drugs, homeless. But so long as you don't turn down that street you're 100% fine. About a block and a half away are several car rental places. We used a tour company that picked up and dropped off at the hotel (thanks to the concierge). We were able to walk all over town being about 2 blocks from Union Square. The hotel restaurant was terrible for breakfast. It was 30 dollars for some tea, coffee, granola and eggs and it was not good quality at all. But there are three Starbucks with in a block and the Hilton has a decent buffet with an amazing view of the city (pricy but worth it) right across the street. Overall this was a very nice hotel to stay in. Quiet, clean, with a nice location and helpful staff.”

• They make you pay to use the internet, even to look up a menu or movie time.

“The hotel was beautiful and clean, the staff friendly and the location is great. My one and only complaint was they make you pay to use their computer, $ 6 for 15 minutes. All I wanted to do was look up a movie time and this seemed ridiculous. The front desk staff did however look the information up for me which was very nice. I think for the price they should give you 15 minutes free on the computer and if you need additional time, then charge for that. I have stayed in two other Kimpton personality hotels and their computer use was free.”
