  • The hotel staff was extremely friendly and helpful and the hotel had a free happy hour with drinks that was a nice touch.

“I stayed at the Hotel Monaco for just one night, but would definitely stay there again and highly recommend it to others. The hotel is in a convenient location downtown- I took the light rail there from the airport, which dropped me off two blocks away. The hotel staff was friendly, polite and helpful in recommending places to eat or hang out. I took advantage of the complimentary cocktail/beer/wine hour they had from 5-6pm in the beautiful living room next to the lobby. My hotel room was spacious and nicely decorated and the bed was comfortable. It's still hard to believe that I was able to stay at this luxurious hotel for such a great price!”

  • Nice rooms, clean, and a well run place.
  • Lobby seems a bit sterile and uninviting.

“We had stayed at the Benson a few nights before. We liked the Monaco's bedrooms better but the Benson has such a magnificent lobby with so much more going on the piano bar, proximity to great restaurants, etc.”

  • Unique decor, very friendly staff, and good location.
  • Nothing to dislike.

“The decor of this hotel is fun and funky. Loved the leopard and tiger striped terry robes in the room rather than plain white. The lobby seemed to be a gathering place in the morning for coffee and in the early evening for wine - the decorating drew you into the room because it is unique.”

  • New rooms and facilities. Great staff. Excellent restaurant attached.
  • Nothing.

“Little extras like free coffee and wine with music during the afternoon add to an already superlative experience at the Monaco. A helpful staff, great front bellmen who know the city, free papers, great rooms and an excellent restaurant attached makes this hotel a rank above the norm.”

  • The hotel has a great kind of funky decor, our room was clean & quiet.
  • Badly behaved guest dogs.

“Generally a cool place, in close proximity to tons of walkable stuff - although getting there by car is a huge pain because of all the one-way streets & traffic restrictions. The wine hour (happening as we checked in) looked like barely controlled chaos with people, dogs, a violinist, kids playing Wi -Fi I was in a social mood it probably would have been great. The attached restaurant has some bad reviews, but room service breakfast was prompt & just fine, valet parking is expensive at $30/day.”

  • This hotel has a wonderful location right in the heart of downtown.
  • The parking is expensive through the hotel so I parked in a near by garage.

“The hotel has a beautiful decor and a very friendly staff. The rooms have everything you need, but are a little cramped. If you are a business traveler or are in town for a play this is a great hotel to stay at.”

  • Good location, fun decor. Very decent fitness room.
  • $31 per night valet parking, Ridiculously extortionate pricing on mini bar items, tacky price tags on everything in the room that wasn't nailed down.

“This is a lovely hotel in the heart of downtown Portland. It's within walking distance to everything (depending on your inclination to walk I suppose). High price on parking (the smart park around the corner costs a 3rd of what Monaco charges and is more convenient, park there. $15 razors conveniently for sale if you forgot your own $4 snack packs of Ritz cheese and crackers, give me a break. Even airlines aren't that audacious, yet.”

“The Kimpton Monaco is located in a great part of Portland, near many fine establishments. Their MAX transport is only 2 blocks away. I doubt that you would find a more helpful and friendly staff, in any city. The free happy hour in the fire lit lobby is a really a plus. It was really a great experience for my wife and I.”

  • Happy hour, pet friendly, morning coffee, helpful concierge.
  • Restaurant was too expensive.

“The Hotel Monaco exceeded our expectations. Free Happy Hour each evening, which included drinks and chair massage. Free coffee each morning. We did not bring a pet, but it was fun to see the variety of pets that were there. The Hotel was very clean and modern. No sign that being pet friendly had made the place less clean. Great location. Easy to walk everywhere in Portland. Concierge and front desk were very helpful with recommendations,
and arrangements.”

  • The staff was friendly and helpful. The decor was eclectic and fun. I liked the sleeping with the fishes feature very much.
  • My room was not just small, but tiny. The restaurant was closed for renovations. Parking prices were absurd.

“This gem of a hotel is nestled smack in the middle of downtown. Walking distance to Saturday market, upscale restaurants and big city shopping. It has an attached spa with limited services - but the friendly staff was happy to accommodate appointments at the nearby full service salon. The hotel offers free wireless internet, and paid parking. (that's a little absurd). That being said, the queen deluxe room we were given was incredibly small and the flat screen television had been drawn on with indelible marker, making evenings in a little less relaxing. I might also add that room service was very limited (time and menu) due to the hotel restaurant being closed. The bathrooms were very clean, and offered a variety of Aveda bath and body products. I would note here that the bathroom floor was very slippery, as was the bottom of the tub. I'm not one to nit-pick but you really had to be extra careful exiting and entering the shower. All-in-all the Hotel Monaco was a good value, for location, cleanliness, and impeccable service. I really enjoyed that they were pet friendly, even allowing you to order up a pet goldfish to keep you company during your stay! I would stay again.”
