• Atmosphere & architectural lay-out of the building.
• Loudness of street public late at night. Easy to hear them.

“Good location. Excellent restaurant attached with the hotel. Very friendly staff. Very helpful with any questions. Very clean room. Architectural lay-out of the inside was so beautiful.”

• Location - services of the concierge - restaurant.
• First room : was very old and AC was not working - second room has AC and was ok.

“The location is perfect in the center of Portland. The concierge and the valet parking were great. The information's they have given me were perfect. In my first room the AC wasn't working and, even if it was so hot, I had to complain to have an other room. The second one was smaller but AC was working and that room was more modern.”

• No fridge, the in-room coffee service was hard to use, (Stowed away in the closet, no place to set it up).

• Location, staff, restaurant.
• Small, bland room with uncomfortable bed, little amenities.

“Great location, Jakes is a great restaurant in the hotel building though not owned by the hotel. Valet parking (the only option) is expensive at $27.00 per day. Room was small, furniture is bland, windows were dirty, bed was uncomfortable, no fridge (though there was a space for one in the armoire), there was a coffee maker in the closet, but no place to put it in the room. Small desk space and no vanity area. For the price, there are much better places to stay in Portland.”

• No direct sunlight and very expensive valet parking.

“Hotel was old and dark. The room stayed in had no direct sunlight, but was large and accommodating. Overall, this hotel should not be a 4 star, rather a 3 star.”

• The lobby is gorgeous and the bed was comfortable.
• The walls are thin.

• The staff was very helpful and friendly.
• The room was small and not as nice as I would expect for the price.

“I had never stayed at a 4 star hotel before. I was expecting a at least moderate sized and beautifully decorated room. But it was very small and not as fancy as I had hoped. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was big. The lobby was gorgeous and the staff was great. But the most important part - the room - wasn't as expected.”

• Stain on the duvet and holes in the leather of the desk chair arms.

“Very pretty, but very small room. Very dark; view of nearby building only. First impression was marred by a prominent stain in the center of the duvet. Loud air conditioning/heating system. Staff was responsive and helpful. Quiet; very little distracting noises.”

• The hotel staff was very accommodating and helpful.
• The rooms were disappointing- very small bathroom, dirty couch and horrible fold out bed.

• Location was ideal. Hotel staff was delightful.
• Bed was too firm and could not get any remedy from staff.

“The hotel has a very European and historic feel. Nicely updated. It is located on the edge of the trendy Pearl District of Portland, Or. Where restaurants and upscale shopping of all descriptions abound, yet feels quiet and private. The Max free rail transportation is right outside on the street to take you to the waterfront and various other entertainments. Freeway access is within blocks. Streets seem safe and friendly. Be aware parking is $27 per day.”

• Very helpful.
• The room had a continuous hum from what was assumed to be air conditioners on the roof above.

“Good location, fine service, very pleasant service, and good location. The room was of a good size and the ambience of the room was very acceptable. There was however a hum which seemed to come from some equipment above our room.”

• Location, style.
• Not enough space in the bedroom (desk to close to the bed). Construction going on nearby, very noisy.

“The hotel met my expectations for the star rating (overall aspect), but not for the room. The set-up of the room was not adequate: not enough space to move around, one window was not functioning properly, there was a minibar but no fridge. (I agree with previous comments about it).”

• Very comfortable rooms in great location.

“We had a great experience at the Governor's Hotel. We always prefer boutique hotels over the big chains and this hotel did not disappoint. The beds were very comfy and there was no street noise whatsoever. The staff was very helpful.”

• An historic surroundings with modern, luxury upgrades.
• There were a number of homeless in the hotel's environment; no self-parking.

“The Governor House, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, surrounds guests with a roaring twenties atmosphere while providing the comforts of the 21st century. Dark woods, mosaic floors, sweeping staircases, and sophisticated dining spaces are more suited for families with older children and adult travelers. Metro lines vary from bus service to light rail to streetcars but are a little difficult to use without prior study of a city map and Metro guide.”

• Great 6th floor room.
• Bathroom fixtures.

“Loved it! Would stay again in a heartbeat. Perfect location for downtown business. Nice bar/restaurant. 6th floor had nice, airy rooms with sky lights. Fireplace was a bonus added touch (a little gas smell, though). Overall, A+ experience.”

• Great staff. Comfortable bed.
• The door men were abundant (3-4) but all focused on one person rather than "dividing and conquering". Too focused on tips.

• They could not get my car out of the valet parking garage-someone blocked the drive. I got the car myself. I was mad-almost missed the plane.

“This is a historic Portland hotel that recaptures some of Portland's history. It is a unique, beautiful building, with recently redone rooms and an especially outstanding restaurant featuring Northwest cuisine!”

• View of wall, no light, no refrigerator.

“Great location, steps away from downtown area free trolley & Max. Felt safe while walking at night. Unfortunately we had to settle for a rollaway bed in a king room. Comfortable rollaway I might add. Was told at check out that had we asked in advance about a refrigerator in the room, one would have been placed in the cupboard that obviously holds one. For 3 women in one king with a rollaway, housekeeping would have figured out that more than 2 of all towels, washcloths etc. Might have been necessary. Room has a view of an opposite wall, which allowed only minimal light in, it looked like a rainy day when in actuality was a 90 degree sunshine day. Best part was starbucks coffee in lobby area and Jakes for cocktails. Beds were comfortable & a really, really great location downtown. No frills. Good valet service, $27.00 per night. Across the street in an open lot was like $10.00/day.”

“Centrally located - we walked everywhere. Excellent hotel. We'd recommend to any older adults - please - we don't like children running around hotels so think Holiday Inns are best for them. This hotel did not have unruly kids!”

• Beautiful historic hotel and staff went out of their way to be helpful.
• Very beautiful old hotel, but squeaky floors.

“Met and exceeded my expectations for a 4 star hotel. I didn't even have to open my own doors. The location was fantastic and the staff was amazing. We were filthy and smelly after 6 days of backcountry hiking/camping without real showers. We were still treated with the utmost respect and consideration.”

• It was a beautiful hotel. Very comfortable.
• Staff was less than enthusiastic about my visit with them. Especially the front desk girls. Kind of rude.

“Great location, beautiful hotel with a lot of history. Front desk staff is not very friendly. I didn't feel like I was a special guest. In fact I didn't feel like they even wanted me or cared I stayed with them.”

• The front desk staff and the valet staff were excellent and very pleasant and responsive to a travelers needs.
• The room was very clean but the linens were not very wrinkled like they had been rolled up in a ball. They changed them on request.

“This hotel is very centrally located to the road system. The staff is very friendly and responsive to a traveler's needs. Housekeeping is very clean but the sheets were not acceptable. It caused me to down grade this hotel by at least 4 points. They need to have fresh ironed sheets and pillow cases to be a 4 star hotel. We had to have them change twice before we ever slept in. When I brought a sample pillow case to the front desk they appeared a little shocked by their condition.”

• My original room had a bathroom window which wouldn't close, so I was upgraded to a bigger, more comfortable room.
• The original room was cold, due to the above mentioned window, and the digital thermostat didn't work.

“Small scale, grand hotel. The first room I was given was one of those small but adequate rooms, which would have been fine, if the temp was comfortable. But my upgraded room was wonderful, with much more space, a couch and desk, skylights, a more spacious bathroom, and a fireplace! Courteously and promptly provided, impossible not to be impressed!”

• Room dark, and relatively unattractive-on a back wall, facing other rooms.

“Beds comfortable, room sort of dark, and the low wattage bulbs exacerbate that aspect, a lack of comfortable chairs, no ice available without room service. No fridge in room, though it was prepared for one!”

• My room looked directly into another building, there was no natural light.

• It was a quality hotel, located in a good area with character.
• Our room had a view of a wall/rooftop.

“This hotel only has eight "double bed" rooms. Which leaves people with children "up in the air." We had a king bed and ordered a roll-away to fit us. One of us (thankfully, our seven years old) ended up in a roll-away.”

• Nice work out facility, good location.
• Wireless internet was terrible. Parking fees are outrageous. Zero view from room.

“I felt like a prison inmate in my room. It had 3 skylights and one window which provided a great view of the backside of the Front Facia. The wireless internet did not reach to that room.”

• Breakfast at the restaurant was bad, eggshell in the omelets.

“The Governor is conveniently located in Downtown Portland. The restaurant Jakes has old style charm with great food. The decor is beautiful, beds are comfortable and the rooms were quite. The staff was prompt and friendly, I would stay again.”

• Very helpful staff, excellent restaurant, classic old hotel, nicely restored.
• Room was a bit on the small size.

“Great old hotel which has been restored to include the elegant features of turn of the century hotels. The staff was uniformly helpful and pleasant. The restaurant was outstanding and the public spaces were well decorated, comfortable, and well maintained. Only negative, and it was minor, was that the room we had was a bit on the small size as was the bathroom. Probably characteristic of hotel rooms of the era. Would stay there again.”

• Cannot think of one thing.

“The staff in this establishment were exceptional at what they do. Every request I had was met and even exceeded immediately. The architecture of the building and my room was of the 1920s era simply divine. The location of the hotel was perfect. You could take a short walk or ride the free light rail to any location in the city. Due to previous reviews I was expecting billing or construction issues, I had none of them. This hotel is a perfect place for any type of traveler, and I would highly recommend it.”
