• I liked that the pool was warm!
• The room smelled musty.

“This Red Lion has a great location. Was expecting the food to be better - has a fancy feel to the restaurant, but the food was obviously from a box. So, if you don't eat at the restaurant, this is a great place to stay.”

• Stained carpets, 1 little bar of soap, burned out light bulbs.

“This place is worn out. Stained carpets, 1 little bar of soap for the room, no garbage can for the bathroom, vanities are too short, burned out light bulbs in the vanity light, mold in the grout in the shower, etc. I won't stay here again.”

• Comfortable bed, modern amenities, good water pressure and shower head.
• High speed connection hard to find, few cable channels, no movies available, no phone-book.

“Overall, clean and comfortable. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have slept in. Hotel claimed to have wired high speed internet but I never did find where I was supposed to plug my cable into. The TV had less than 20 channels at times not much to choose from.”

• Location: easy access to freeway, downtown. Friendly employees. Correct complaints.

“I think this is about a three star hotel. Sits almost on
highway 101. Very easy access to downtown Eureka. Almost immediate correction when one makes a complaint about something, like coffee pot broken, bulb out, need more towels.”

• Nothing.
• Staff would not help with noise from many teenage guests in adjoining rooms. Noisy all night long.

“I would not stay in this hotel again or recommend it to anyone I know. Hotel staff does not care about comfort of guests. Some traffic noise from street behind hotel but tolerable.”

• Being charged a supplement for requesting a room with 2 beds - all hotels I have visited in USA only too happy to do this.

• Clerk that checked me in the first night was excellent.
• Poor housekeeping staff.

“Our room didn't get clean even after we called early in the afternoon to make sure it would. They finally came in around 11 PM to give us fresh towels and clean the bathroom.”

“Hotel seemed the best in the area, from our observation. The food was good, the staff was friendly and helpful, the room was clean and comfortable. Easy access to local highways. We would return in the future.”

• Hard bed.

“It was clean, comfortable and quiet. The staff friendly and helpful. The landscaping was in dire need of care and the exterior could use some updating, but the room was nice. The pillows were fluffy and the shower had good water pressure. Overall, it was pretty good (giving the location) and I'd stay there again.”

• Location. The hotel was completely non-smoking.
• People smoked and threw lit cigarettes off their balconies. The hotel did nothing!

“It is superficially attractive. The dining room had the worst food and top dollar. 6 Shrimp were advertised as prawns and badly prepared. The salad was a disgrace, browning and wilting. All guests signed a possible $250 fine for smoking at check-in. I reported that smokers were throwing lit cigarettes off their balconies and the hotel staff did nothing. The stones and gravel around the rooms and my patio were filled with broken glass and cigarette butts. It was clear that no one cleaned up the property. No attempts were made except to assure me something would be done. 3 days later it was a bigger mess and I was pelted with a lit cigarette on my way to my car. We have over 1100 fires burning in CA. I explained that to the manager and yet nothing was done to stop the mess and people smoking and not disposing of their cigarette butts properly. I would drop their star level down as the property was dirty, the staff non-responsive and the restaurant food was expensive and poor quality and poorly prepared.”

• The pool was nice and warm at 80.
• Could not use my wireless internet connection they were not updated using the new version of windows vista.

“This hotel was only setup for older models of computer with Windows. My operating system is new and Windows Vista, I had to use a wireless connection for the hotel across the street just to work during the week.”

• Front desk staff excellent. Room comfortable and spacious. Bed comfortable.
• Restaurant lousy. Service indifferent at best. Terrible pillows - had to sleep on hotel towels.

“If you are looking for a good, clean, spacious hotel that is quiet with comfortable beds, free WiFi, and good front desk staff, this is for you. Walking distance from Old Eureka, nice location. But eat elsewhere and bring your own pillow unless you like those huge hotel pillows.”

• Two of the staff were great to work with the room was clean and comfortable.
• Day Manager I worked with was not very helpful or friendly.

“This hotel is a very nice hotel. Also the bay view was obstructed by a brake and alignment center and trailer park. Something they can't control but it took away from the enjoyment of my view. They have great coffee and the rooms are clean and comfortable.”

• I really liked the room. Very nice. It had everything we need, the way we like it!
• Nothing, besides the fact that they have no Jacuzzi in room.

• The night staff was professional, helpful & friendly. I like having microwave & frig in the room.
• The rooms with 1 king size bed are too small for 2 adults & 2 children.

“The night staff was exceptionally friendly & professional. The hotel accommodations were nice. If you have 2 adults & 2 children, make certain you tell the hotel staff before or at check in that you want a room with 2 queen size beds. The rooms with only 1 king size bed are not large enough for adults and small children.”

• The Restaurant had a great pizza and beer special.
• The view was horrible.

“Hotel was on the outskirts of town on the opposite side from our destination. The area had no views whatsoever in a place where one could easily have stayed in a lesser hotel and enjoyed the views. The restaurant did offer a great pizza and beer room service special we enjoyed very much and the lobby was lovely.”

• Beds were very comfortable.
• It was extremely noisy as no insulation against noise in other rooms and especially the hallways.

“The hotel staff was extremely helpful and cheerful. Beds were comfortable. Wireless internet worked well and was included with the room. The only problem was that the walls were paper thin and you could hear everything that was said in the hallways and in adjacent rooms. Overall, I would recommend this hotel if you are planning a trip to Eureka.”

• Unusually comfortable beds, great hamburger in bar at night late.
• Useless outdoor pool and spa in chilly climate, really bad Direct TV few channels, poor reception, bad location, no view.

• The best hotel that Eureka had to offer.
• The fitness center was smelly and uninviting.

“While the room, service, and restaurant were very nice, the location and general community are a little run down. However, I believe that other than maybe a quaint bed and breakfast inn in one of the picturesque surrounding communities, this hotel is probably the best Eureka has to offer. The fitness center needs more regular fresh air and cleaning.”

• The room was large, clean and comfortable, with the every thing as it should be.
• I do not have anything bad to say.

“By far one of the nicest hotels I have stayed at in the 3 star ranges. The bed was very comfortable with the sheet and pillows all having a fresh clean crisp feel. The staff from check in to room service was extremely friendly and considerate to my needs and requests. The winning point was the food which to say was excellent is a disservice as it was served quick, hot and ample.”

“We very much enjoyed our stay here, especially the second of our two nights; however, we were very disappointed the first night that wild, noisy revelers were allowed to keep up us until 2:30 a.m. The night management really dropped the ball on that one.”

• Location wasn't great.

“My husband and I had an excellent stay at the red lion. The staff was helpful and courteous, and the room was huge with very comfortable beds. I was also impressed with the cleanliness of the hotel as well as the bath and body works amenities. When we visit eureka again to see the California redwoods, we will definitely stay here again!”

“Registration staff was sloppily dressed, rude and helpless as "the computer was down". Only one older Asian woman was professional and helpful. Overall, this hotel is overpriced for quality of service and cleanliness. I will not stay there again.”

• The room was tastefully decorated, and the staff was very friendly.
• Friday night the music from the club below kept us awake.

“Nice room and service, however the music from the club on the first floor kept us awake, and sleep was not good on that night. They did turn it down when we called to complain, but we could still feel the thumping of the bass.”
