• Had a fridge and microwave in room and close to all.
• It's run down.

“The elevators are rickety and scary sounding. The floor in each one is wobbly.”

• Hard to say. Ummm, I liked the stuffed animal heads on the wall. Interesting decor.
• Rude staff. Awful food. Dirty rooms.

“I specifically stay at Best Western because I was under the impression they were a nice hotel. I usually stay at Motel6, but I thought I'd live it up a little on vacation. ~loll~ If Best Western is a nice hotel chain, they need to jerk the franchise contract out from under this location. Rude staff. Awful food. Dirty rooms. Bad, no paint job in room. This particular Best Western is way below any Motel 6 I ever stayed at.

• Easy access for disabled traveler.
• Noisy party upstairs. Had to ask hotel staff several times to ask them to be quiet.

“Prices are outrageous in this city so it's no surprise that a moderate hotel would charge so much for a room. The muted brown and beige decor make it look older and dingier than it really is. Comfortable beds, large rooms, adequate restaurant and room service. In-room microwave & refrigerator. Nice place to start or end a vacation. Not very convenient to airport but that also avoids all the noise.”

• Nice clean hotel near the center of town, theatres, shopping, and restaurants.
• Small elevators.

“This is a nice hotel near the edge of the center of town and by car it takes 5 minutes to shopping, theatres, and restaurants. You can walk and it would take 10 to 15 minutes to walk to things you would like to do. Staff is very friendly and work hard to make you comfortable.”

• Exercise room.
• Slightly seedy, run-down appearance.

“Basic room, good bed and marginal pillows, but clean and adequate. Restaurant was slow and forgettable, and the location requires driving to Downtown Anchorage or anywhere else. Had a nice little exercise room and laundry facilities. Next time I'd probably pay a bit more and stay in a bit nicer hotel Downtown.”

• Fairly nice hotel overall with nice bar area.
• No shuttle service, terrible restaurant and too far from everything.

“Back in the day this way a nice hotel. Now it is just mediocre at best. The restaurant is terrible but it has a nice bar. The rooms were clean however and well taken care of.”

• They were able to send a fax for me at no charge.
• Workout area & Sauna open to main lobby.

“They were very friendly, helpful & was a good value for the price. Parts of the hotel were kind of outdated (stairways & restaurant area), but looks like they are in process of replacing carpet & updating.”

• This one has the best parking situation I've seen in a while & a restaurant.
• I wish they would upgrade the cable & larger TV's but, many need to do that.

“The TV & cable was ok. I would love to see upgrades, that of course is big bucks. A centralized location & a theater a block away. I like it.”

• Hallways and elevators a bit run down.

“Very helpful staff at the desk. The room was large and had a microwave, refrigerator and television. Climate control worked well. Tub was run down with patches which didn't match the base color very well.”

• There was enough room to move around.

“I would not recommend this hotel. It had no shuttle from the airport, no breakfast so I had to buy that and it was already really expensive to stay at the hotel.”

• The location of the room was horrible.

“At the beginning of the stay everything was great. Until 6:00 am came around and the housekeeping staff decided to have a get together right outside my hotel room door. Which happened to be right across the hall from the elevator and the housekeeping office. When I asked to be switched to another room I was told that they would get back to me to let me know what room and then they never contacted me back - I was there for a total of 4 days.”

• The staff is extremely friendly!
• The building is outdated, somewhat gloomy looking and there aren't many channels on the TV.

“The staff, from the reception area to the maintenance staff, is extremely friendly. Our room was quite spacious and included 2 beds, a desk, plenty of chairs, a fridge and microwave. The room was clean, as was the bathroom. They provide coffee, shampoo, lotion, soap & a shower cap in the bathroom. My only complaint is that they only have about 8 channels, and with 2 little ones and quite a bit of down-time in the room, there wasn't much to watch.”

“The mattresses had to be over 2 years old, the carpets were stained, the complete building smelled old and dirty. I would never have stayed there had I known it was that bad.”

• Friendly staff and excellent food in restaurant.
• Did
  not like the large stuffed lion in the lobby.

“The rooms were large and pleasant. Front desk staff very friendly and helpful. Free Internet service. Restaurant food was surprisingly good. Enjoyed our brief stay and will stay there again when next in Anchorage.”

• Convenient. Friendly staff.
• Bad bed/sheets. Only entrance to floors was the elevators.

“Golden Lion has been here a long time, but it's my first stay. We were on the back side, away from the Seward Highway, so it was fairly quiet. Shower heads are about five feet from the tub floor. Limited TV selection.”

• Breakfast in the hotel lounge was very good, personnel friendly and attentive.
• Iron chained to the ironing board made it difficult to iron garment.

“Was a convenient location, easy to get into, but exit into traffic not ideal. Comfortable and clean. Quiet, even though it is near a highway.”

• This hotel was very dirty and loud.

“Some of the staff was friendly, but others were nasty and rude. The room was very dirty. At night there was so much noise in the room above that I was unable to sleep.”

• The phone did not work; my son found a blue pill under the bed and almost ate it.

“The roof was leaking over the floor in the bathroom and the people in the room above me were very loud, I had to call the hotel to complain with my cell because the room phone did not work.”

• The location was decent. Right in Anchorage.
• The room smelled funny, the air conditioner was broken, and the furnishings were old.

“I would not stay here again. I cannot understand how this is given a two-star ranking when the place is so smelly, run-down, and old. The AC did not work.”

• I was disappointed the smell it was awful and I didn't feel comfortable with my children there was worried they catch sick from the odor.
• When my husband took a shower in the morning the toilet flooded so I woke to bailing the toilet with the coffee pot.

“I was afraid of catching something like lice, it was filthy and the stench was overwhelming it hung no matter what I sprayed. The toilet over flowed when my husband started the shower. Wouldn't recommend it.”

• Staff was very helpful - helped me find charger for cell phone in lost and found.
• The bed was too hard.

“This hotel was in a very easy location to get to, and pretty quiet. We were only there for sleep so didn't check out the restaurant or lounge. The staff was great!”

• Uncaring front desk staff, sloppy housekeeping staff.

“I had stayed at the Golden Lion before and the only negative thing was the parking. That was better but everything else had gone downhill. We were given a smoking room , told non-smoking was based on availability but the hotel was half empty. Old cups and popcorn were under the bed from a previous occupant and was still there 2 days later when we checked out, even when we told the front desk on the first night. Definitely felt the front desk staff was not there to serve their guests.”

“A little run down but the rooms seemed clean. We had one of our windows boarded up and there was left-over room service food outside of one of the rooms all night and into the morning and the hall had some messes here and there. Staff was extremely friendly.”
