“Like the local, home like feeling.” Sep 28, 2009 by

“Hotel was clean. Good bed. Very friendly staff. Kind of small and dreary, but a good value for the price.” Aug 21, 2009 by
Veda from Burnaby,Canada
“Hotel is old but was clean. Beds were comfortable. Garden was very attractive.” Jun 22, 2009 by
Ned from Austin,TX
“Some rooms in this hotel might pass for 2 star quality. But there is a basement wing in the hotel, where customers seems to be housed, that is not 2 star in my opinion. The rooms are very small, smell musty and there is no view. The pool was never open. The hotel was not that full. I asked if I could upgrade my room for an additional charge and was told no.” May 29, 2009 by
Prestine from Kihei,HI
“Usually stay at this hotel when in Hi lo. Great location from the family house and dining. Always a pleasant to stay here.” Jan 6, 2009 by
Jane from Venice,CA
“We have a wonderful stay. The hotel staff was very accommodating and kind. Everything was very clean and the location was excellent - right on the water and walking distance (2 miles) to downtown. The restaurant was overpriced and the food was not delicious. There was no continental breakfast. The rooms were a little small. Everything was a little soggy from all the rain.” Nov 16, 2008 by
Annie from Vancouver,Canada
“It is very centrally located and a close drive to many attractions - downtown, Hilo Farmer's market, Coconut Island, volcano, waterfalls, etc. Although it is quite old, it was very clean, and there were no cockroaches which we were worried about before our arrival.” Sep 15, 2006 by
Julia from Palo Alto, CA
“We stayed in the Hilo Seaside Hotel for one night prior to our departure out of the Hilo airport. The room was very clean, but I probably would not stay there for an extended amount of time. The room had 70's-style shag carpeting! We arrived on a Friday night, and there was very little nearby parking. I would recommend this hotel for a short stay near an airport.” 1 of 2 people found this review helpful.Sep 1, 2006 by

“Hotel is conveniently located near the airport and other tourist activity. Hotel staffs are very friendly. Hotel's parking arrangement is not satisfied. Good value for the price.” 2 of 2 people found this review helpful.Jul 29, 2006 by

“I would stay here again in the future. We have stayed at sister hotels on neighbor islands and enjoy the Kamaiaina (local) atmosphere. Value for cost is very good. Rooms are clean and beds comfortable.” Jul 15, 2006 by
Marsha from Santa Rosa, CA
“Older hotel, very simple rooms and no frills but clean and staff was helpful. Very near Banyan Drive and w/I walking distance to restaurants Ken's Pancakes, Harrington's and Coconut Grill. Parking tight so take all valuables out of car as you may end up across street (also patrolled by security; nice pool area but limited hours are 10 am - 6 pm; some rooms have view of ice pond out front and a limited view of Hilo Bay across street. Later check in (11:00 pm) was not a problem. Very close to airport which was convenient but could hear a lot of air traffic (helicopters) traveling in the sky. Overall, the hotel served its purpose which was to provide a simple place for us to stay for a night in Hilo prior to traveling to other areas of the island.” 2 of 2 people found this review helpful.May 24, 2006 by

“Price is right but noise factor of nearby roadway, other guests and airplanes at play. Rooms adequate but no coffee in either room or lobby for travelers!” May 23, 2006 by
Bill from San Francisco, CA
“The Seaside Hotel is old, but reasonably well maintained, as long as you don't look to carefully. Some of the rooms are newer, and perhaps a little better. It appears to be a place where locals from Hawaii, and senior tours come to --so it is less expensive than the others along Canyon Drive. It is not a place I would use as a vacation spot, but for work it is just fine.” May 16, 2006 by
Marty from Boulder City, NV
“ Though "old", the hotel is well maintained, i.e. walls and ceilings were painted recently and the carpet, bathroom, etc. were thoroughly clean and everything was working.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Feb 13, 2006 by

“Friendly staff, good prices. Hotel is old and in need of some freshening or renovations. The number of guests with cars seems to create havoc in the area because of insufficient parking space, cars tend to take over some public space.” Feb 8, 2006 by
Bob from Seattle, WA
“Very unlike it is sister hotel in Kona, this one was very noisy and trashy.” Jul 24, 2005 by
Roger from Encinitas, CA
“This is a pleasant, Hawaiian-owned and operated hotel located on Hilo Bay. The grounds include a koi pond, fern alley, and swimming pool area, and there is a spacious, open reception area. The attached restaurant serves good, reasonably-priced food including local specialties. The hotel is close to downtown, the port, and the airport.” May 31, 2005 by
Shirley from Pensacola, FL
“Near the Hilo airport, not in the tourist area; older hotel; room and lobby tastefullly decorated. Noise level in guest quaters kept to a minimum. A very good value for the money in Hawaii. Room had very few electrical outlets.” May 12, 2005 by
Olav from Sumas, WA
“Good room for the money. Near the beach & about 3 miles from downtown Hilo. Friendly staff, convenient location. Building somewhat old, but well-kept. Insufficient parking for guests.” Mar 9, 2005 by
John from Ashland, OR
“Nice, affordable and friendly!” Feb 23, 2005 by
Patricia from Placerville, CA
“Hotel strategically located near airport, downtown, major access roads, restaurants and other major hotels. Clean, roomy facilities with friendly, attentive native Hawaiian staff and management. Crowded parking conditions may lead to parking along the street around the block (but no farther than large hotel lots anyway). Prepare to haul suitcases over several small sets of stairs (2-5 steps each) entering the hotel and getting to your room.” Feb 11, 2005 by
Xin from Summit, NJ
“If you are looking for a decent clean hotel, I would recommend to chose 3 star and above.” Jan 27, 2005 by
Christine from Kendall, WI
“It has a feeling of Hawaiian Heritage, with its wood carvings and Hawaiian prints. But a little updating wouldn't hurt.I think that the tile looked very new however the carpet needed replacing. The staff was friendly and helpful and the rooms were clean. I loved the pond in the front and the view was awsome.” Sep 25, 2004 by
Mel M. from Houston “Excellent location, very easy to find from airport. Attractive, clean and a very courteous staff.”
