“This was a great hotel for the price and location. The room was clean but the pool was disappointing. The grounds were well kept. There were turtles.” Apr 6, 2008 by
Pat from Portland, OR
“Friendly people, beautiful scenery and very clean rooms.” Mar 18, 2008 by
Benjamin from Lower Sackville, NS CA
“Refused to consider the slightest upgrade e.g. move to a higher floor or a better view. We were on the 2nd floor right overlooking the flat roof of the restaurant & meeting rooms. Beware, Avis car rental will charge you an hour rate if you so much as to return the car one minute late. That is the policy of Avis at the Kona airport. Always ask what the grace period for return time is.” Mar 10, 2008 by
Steven from Woodstock, GA
“The renovations were done very well. It was very clean and attractively appointed. I don't really believe there was a bad room in the hotel. The ocean was visible from everywhere. I would recommend it to anyone.” Feb 27, 2008 by
Charles from Bella Vista, AR
“This hotel is in a prime location in Kona. It is seaside with a great coastline, beach and views to die for.Unfortunately, the hotel, although in the process of renovation, should have begun this re-do 5 years ago.” Feb 15, 2008 by
Larry from Sylvania, OH
“This hotel is working on remodeling rooms which will make it more attractive to travelers. It is in a nice setting but is some distance from most attractions (3-5 miles). We weren't aware of the $7 daily parking fee and somewhat surprised that there was one. We expect parking fees only in major urban areas.” Feb 10, 2008 by
Susan from Monroe, GA
“The Outrigger Keahou was in a quiet location of the Kona Coast - so much better than if we had stayed in the heart of Kaluia-Kona. There were many interesting historic Hawaiian relics on the hotel property, some of which were being reconstructed by professionals - two heiuas, an ancient fish pond, replica of one of the king's summer cottage, etc.” Feb 3, 2008 by
Linda from Mission Viejo, CA
“Fabulous location on the beach, turtle on the rocks in front of hotel, like old Hawaii, beautiful spacious rooms, friendly staff.” Jan 24, 2008 by
WILLIAM from SAN FRANCISCO, CA
“Mid-size hotel but very personable. Nice open lobby. Adequate rooms and balcony. Evening torch lighting and live shows at bar/restaurant area directly over the water. Pretty grounds with tiny swimming beach next door.” Jan 20, 2008 by
Rich from Spokane, WA
“Over all this is a very nice moderate hotel. It is next to a great snorkeling beach park (great for fish however not the best beach area.)” Jan 4, 2008 by
Mary from Angleton, TX
“I was in an older section of the hotel. The hotel was in the process of being remodeled. The lobby was spacious, clean and well decorated. I had a great time and would go back. The room was large-did not like having only a shower instead of a bathtub. The staff was helpful, gave great directions and made me feel secure. I will definitely stay there again. The location was super.” Dec 17, 2007 by
Charles from Seattle, WA
“This hotel was beyond our expectations. My wife and I are on our honeymoon and have gone to Maui, Kailua Kona, Hilo, and Honolulu. This was by the best hotel that we stayed at.” Nov 12, 2007 by
Bonnie from Estacada, OR
“Location! Close to fabulous snorkeling and surfing as well as shopping and just minutes from excellent restaurants on the waterfront of Kona. We would stay here again in a minute; we just hope they fix up the hallways outside the guest rooms. They are appalling!” Nov 2, 2007 by
Fred from The Villages, FL
“Adequate. Could have cleaner bathrooms and showers. Great location and ocean view. Good little bar overlooking the ocean.” Oct 31, 2007 by
Peter from Ajax, ON CA
“We found this hotel to have very nice grounds and setting, with friendly and helpful staff, but our room was dingy and smelled of mould / mildew. The room was in serious need of a face lift. On the positive side, it was obvious that the hotel owners was aware of this, as half the hotel rooms were closed off and undergoing what appeared to be a complete renovation. Our room was in the section 'yet to be renovated'. If the renovation work brings the room quality up to the quality of the grounds, this hotel would rate 3.5 4.0 stars and be great for business and leisure travelers, (but without small children as I saw nothing obvious for small children to do nearby).” Sep 30, 2007 by
Rachel from Los Gatos, CA
“The hotel was about average for the price, nothing special, but nothing particularly wrongs either. The restaurant was overpriced, as Is typical for hotels. There Is nothing special for children except, of course, for the ocean, which Is the whole reason for being In Hawaii! Overall I would recommend the hotel, but at a lower star rating.” Sep 22, 2007 by
Rocklyn from Petaluma, CA
“The public areas of the hotel were acceptable, though outdated. Our room, however, was the worst Ive ever stayed in. At least Motel 6 is clean. Our bathroom was moldy (we wore flip flops in the shower). There were large stains on the carpet. The bed was incredibly uncomfortable.” Sep 5, 2007 by
Stuart from Hilo, HI
“While the hotel was pleasant enough I was disappointed that my request for a double room could not be met (despite ringing the hotel the day before) - which meant I had to upgrade. And my upgraded room, particularly the shower, had seen better days.” Aug 26, 2007 by
Jacqui from Greenacres, FL
“The location and common areas are beautiful, deserving a high 3 star rating. The room, however, was at most a 2 star. The carpet was old and stained, the tub lining was constantly pealing off as you took a shower, the water going down very slow, and the vent in the bathroom was filled with mold. The AC would never reach a comfortable temperature. The restaurant was very pricy for average, buffet style food.” Aug 1, 2007 by
Xiaodong from Foster City, CA
“In general, this hotel is good given the price I paid, the reception is also quite friendly, I got free upgrade to ocean view room.” Jul 24, 2007 by
Van from Petaluma, CA
“Nice location but not really clean carpet and bath tub.” Jul 18, 2007 by
Bill from Bellaire, MI
“Not a good place to stay!” Jul 15, 2007 by
Shivon from Three Rivers, CA
“Great location. Needs to be upgraded. New carpet, better bathrooms (there was peeling paint). Better service and food.” Jul 5, 2007 by
Bill from Bellaire, MI
“This place was not good; I did not like it and would not tell people good things about it. You should stay somewhere else.” Jun 7, 2007 by
Sanjoy from Plano, TX
“Needs maintenance badly. Does not meet the expectation advertised. Old, crummy rooms with tiny old leaky bathrooms. It should not be called a resort when it needs so much upgrades and maintenance.” May 14, 2007 by
Nicole from Dayton, OH
“There is a great snorkeling beach within walking distance of the hotel. Overall not a bad hotel to stay in for the money. I would stay again. It is convent to the shops and many great restaurants. Also a middle ground for travel to Hilo and the Volcano's. The pool is less to be desired and people from the restaurant could have a conversation with you in the pool.” Apr 21, 2007 by
Brian from Oxnard, CA
“The rooms in this hotel are below average and would rate them as a 1. The grounds were very nice and the location was good.” Mar 16, 2007 by
Nick from Pearl Harbor, HI
“The view and atmosphere was great with friendly people to assist you if any help was needed.” Mar 15, 2007 by
Pooja from San Jose, CA
“It was not worth the price I paid. Location is great, grounds are well maintained but the rooms are in a sorry state. Moldy bathroom, broken doors and fixtures, really old furniture and worn out carpet don't cater to a vacationing couple. Balconies offer no privacy whatsoever, and the rooms to the north side of the hotel look over the garbage dump. Always ask for a room facing the south side of the hotel.” Mar 13, 2007 by
Susan from Rio Oso, CA
“I loved the open air of the lobby and dining options. Sitting out on the terrace of the Beach cafe and watching the turtles and sea life while dining was an added plus.” Feb 11, 2007 by
Carole from Westfield, IN
“The room was awful, the bed was very uncomfortable, there was mold on the bathroom walls, and our "ocean view" was a view of a roof! The walls are paper thin, we heard our neighbors having normal conversations. I would never go back to this hotel again, nor would I recommend it to anyone!” Jan 28, 2007 by
Joe from Boston, MA
“Great location, nice friendly staff, great value for the money. Right on the ocean however there is no swim able beach. Manicured grounds make it a pleasure to walk through. Bar area needs to be updated but works in a pinch. I would stay there again.” Jan 4, 2007 by
James from Alhambra, CA
“Does not have enough sandwiches choices on the dinner menu.” 1 of 2 people found this review helpful.Oct 1, 2006 by

“This was a old looking hotel from the carpet to the room walls. over priced for the room that we had. The bathroom bath tub had stains in it. It was room 552 .” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Aug 22, 2006 by

“Fantastic location! Views from deluxe ocean view beautiful, overlooking pool & setting sun. Breakfast was wonderful every morning (except for coffee). Employees (except for snotty young girl at front desk) went out of their way to be helpful and pleasant in every way. Room was clean. Pool beautiful. I would recommend this hotel to friends.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Mar 6, 2006 by

“If your looking for an area that is somewhat out of the heavy traffic of the downtown resorts, this could be the place. Budget wise, I felt that it was decent priced for the services and access to other areas of the Island. You will need a car, if you want to get to the downtown area, or will have to use taxis. There are shuttles, but they do not run at all hours. Views are excellent. It is right next to one of the best snorkel beaches on Hawaii. Very helpful staff.” 4 of 4 people found this review helpful.Feb 23, 2006 by

“My husband and I just returned along with 3 other couples from a fifteen day trip to Hawaii. We spent four nights in Kona at the Outrigger Keauhou hotel. This is a $100 hotel in a million dollar location. First appearance upon arrival was "wow" until we took a closer look, it was disgusting. We were shown our rooms that were dirty, had stained and burned marked carpeting, rusted refrigerators, peeling paint and moldy bathrooms, and smells that were very unpleasant. We asked for upgrades which cost $40 per night more and the only difference was we were put 3 floors higher and the refrigerators were of black paint. Two of the couples had water come up in the shower daily and our bathroom had what looked like drops of blood under the door. The ceiling in the first bathroom had water dripping from above. Because we did not have much of a choice we stayed the 4 nights but it was not good. I have pictures to prove what we saw. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. The rest of our trip was wonderful and we actually stayed at the Outrigger Reef in Oahu which was great. ” 1 of 4 people found this review helpful.Dec 19, 2005 by

“The hotel is very well kept. It has lots of charm and the grounds are superb. We will definitely stay here again. Compared to the 5-star Hilton Waikoloa, it is much preferred. The Hilton reminded us of a Las Vegas mega structure that does not belong in this tropical paradise. Can highly recommend it.” 3 of 3 people found this review helpful.Nov 22, 2005 by

“The hotel was okay for a vacationer but not for business travel.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Nov 9, 2005 by

“Some of the elevators did not work, the carpet in our room was soaking wet making the room damp and smelly, and the staff refused to move us to an available (upgraded) room. I expect better for a 3 star "resort". The lobby decor was much better than the rooms. $5 per day charge for parking your car at the hotel seems pretty petty for this type of place.” 2 of 2 people found this review helpful.Jul 22, 2005 by

“Located just minutes out of the heart of Kona, this hotel is right on the shore of a beautiful snorkeling sanctuary. The lobby is decorated with beautiful Hawaiiana and of course, an Outrigger canoe to marvel at. The rooms are comfortable and the views are spectacular. A great choice to stay.” 2 of 2 people found this review helpful.Jun 19, 2005 by

“Hotel is located in beautiful Kona, Hawaii. The rooms are clean, lobby area gives a very tropical feel but the caveat to all of this comes with the customer service. Upon check-in we were barely greeted with a 'hello', I had to ask for assistance from the bellman, the evening staff was consistently rude and acted as if they would prefer to be anywhere but at the front desk. In the pouring rain I could not find a parking space so I opted to use valet parking..as it turned out I had to take my keys to the front desk and request a receipt..I'm still not for sure if they had a valet or if the front desk clerk did the parking! When I checked out I brought my bags to the lobby without bell assistance but did ask to have the valet bring my car. As it turned out the valet was the bellman and when he brought my car he looked at me and said 'your keys are in the car.' He didn't bring my keys to me or offer to help load the bags. Rooms were inconsistent in the amenities. One morning you might have a coffee pot without any coffee and the next morning you might have coffee without a coffee pot. The coffee cups in my room looked as if they had not been cleaned the second morning I was there. While the building and grounds are beautiful a business is only as good as the customer service and this one gets a very poor rating from me.” 0 of 3 people found this review helpful.May 31, 2005 by

“Walking distance to nearby beach with great snorkeling. Restaraunt served good food. Nice little bar and grill on property (by beach). Helpful staff.” 2 of 2 people found this review helpful.May 24, 2005 by

“I enjoyed the overall experience of the hotel. The ambiance was nice. The restaurant was okay. The bar had good drinks and a great Hawaiian band. The only problem was how they didn't clean the bathroom well. The carpet needs a thorough cleaning.” 3 of 3 people found this review helpful.May 9, 2005 by

“We were very unhappy with the Outrigger Keauhou Beach hotel, The hotel was very dirty, the hall way carpets were not clean at all, and the rooms were outdated and also dirty. We booked a garden view room and were offered a room upgrade for $60 a night after we looked at the rooms. ” 0 of 2 people found this review helpful.Apr 25, 2005 by

“In general I found the hotel rooms to be run down and in need of renovation. I would take exc exception to the 3 1/3 star rating that it was listed with and think that the rating should be lowered.” 2 of 3 people found this review helpful.Mar 19, 2005 by

“Overall, good value for price, good food at reasonable prices, great views, hotel rooms need some updating” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Sep 2, 2004 by
Robyn S. from Astoria, NY “The hotel was absolutely awful, and we decided not to stay there. There were bugs all over the lobby, moldy carpets in the elevators and hallways, and dirty shower stalls (no baths!) in the bathroom. The view of our room overlooked dumpsters and the rooftop.” 1 of 2 people found this review helpful.
