“Very handy and close to activities and food.” Jan 17, 2007 by
Debra from Plano, TX
“Overall, you get what you pay for. This is definitely a budget hotel. The rooms were not clean and the air conditioning did not work. What concerns us the most is that our teenaged children were able to purchase drugs on the hotel property? This is not the type of place we will ever stay again.” Jan 16, 2007 by
Linda from Kea Au, IL
“The price was great, but the facilities were in need of up grades and remodel. Even though, the furniture was nice, the room and carpets were old and grungy.” Sep 3, 2006 by
Audrey from LA
“Well, don't go over there if you want a clean and modern room, my husband and I had to change our room was so dirty and smelled like a dead rat ! But the staff is really professional and nice and it's really well located. But still I won (t come back in this hotel !” Sep 2, 2006 by
Roy from El Segundo, CA
“The view of this hotel at first was cool because loser to the entertainments. After we got into the room, we didn't like the way it advertised us - "You have been Upgrade to 2 STARS hotel!!" but it is like not star hotel. They didn't tell us upfront that we need to pay 5 dollars for a day for the parking space. We read the posted and we thought it is about guest as our friends not us as ourselves as guest. Overall it was just OK. We want our money back or half of the money back to us.” Aug 29, 2006 by
Melanie from Waipahu, HI
“Uncle Billy's in Kailua-Kona exceeded my expectations for a one-star hotel! The room was clean, very spacious and quiet. There were two sinks - one for the bathroom and one was a kitchen sink. The bathroom sink was separate from the shower and toilet (a plus!). Also, there were some shelves in the closet and along the wall for additional storage space. For the budget traveler, I highly recommend Uncle Billy's!” Aug 3, 2006 by
David from Wichita, KS
“It is a good hotel in a good location for visitors to Kona.” Aug 1, 2006 by
Lisa from Honolulu, HI
“Good hotel if you are looking for clean and cheap and don't mean to hang out in your room all day and just want a place to crash. Hotel staff were slightly grouchy. Great location in Kaiulua-Kona.” Jul 11, 2006 by
Kevin from Honolulu, HI
“A hotel that chooses not to aim high. One must pay five dollars to park overnight.” Jun 21, 2006 by
Larry from Hilo, HI
“Restaurant was very poor; room needed renovation badly; staff was pleasant; great location.” Jun 11, 2006 by
Jason from Pahoa, HI
“Uncle Billy's is a locally owned hotel with an open feel. It is located in the touristy area of Kona. They have a pool but I have not used it. The staff is friendly. The hotel is old with out a/c. The hotel is four story's with one elevator. My experience there was adequate.” May 26, 2006 by
Sky from Hunt Valley, MD
“Nothing special here but a comfortable bed in a killer location for a fantastic rate!” May 24, 2006 by
Malinda from Ramsey, MN
“Convenient location within walking distance to shops, dining and beach. We arrived earlier than the 3pm check-in and our room was rushed to be cleaned. However, a pillow had recent pee stains and the maid/housekeeper simply covered it up with another pillow-sheet instead of getting a clean pillow.” May 24, 2006 by
Linda from Honolulu, HI
“If you're looking for a cheap relatively clean hotel in a central location, Uncle Billy's is the place. The room was the largest I've stayed in for awhile. I appreciated the coffee maker and refrigerator in the room. They also have laundry facilities and lots of parking. I stayed from 5/19-21 so it probably wasn't peak season at the time. I would imagine that if the hotel is at full capacity that the parking may not be enough which in case would suck since you would then have to find parking which is not abundant or free in that area. It's like a mini Waikiki so quite noisy. And because the hotel is quite cheap, lots of young partiers, and families with kids running around. I would probably stay there again though, because it's cheap!” May 5, 2006 by
Sue from Mckinleyville, CA
“This hotel is very run down, and only marginally clean. The maids appeared to do a good job cleaning--but many things that may not be considered their job were not done, i.e.: gum stuck to carpet, plastic table on balcony covered with what appeared to be old ice cream, smudges on walls. Maintenance was much in need, i.e.: broken light fixture, window glass replaced with plywood, cigarette burns in bedspread. Social atmosphere also bad, i.e.: surly folk at check-in, young thugs drinking beer and intimidating folks in the parking lot. This hotel is not a 2 star hotel. It barely qualifies as a one star hotel. It's only attribute is location (downtown Kona, convenient but noisy) and the fact that it is cheap.” Mar 8, 2006 by
Tina from Santa Cruz, CA
“Well worth the deal on this hotel, had read many horrible reviews on uncle billys, was quite frightened, but it was not nearly as bad as I expected. Run down but acceptable.” Mar 6, 2006 by
Moya from Dewitt, NE
“The room was ok. Definitely not a Marriot, but it worked. The room was described as "recently re-modeled". However, that was not our room. I would go there again.” Feb 9, 2006 by
John from Torrance, CA
“The physical plant is aging and needs updating. Decent TV with 75 cable channels. The entire hotel was very clean, however. I did not eat meals in the hotel, so I cannot comment on the food.” Jan 13, 2006 by
Ang from San Pablo, CA
“Dear travelers, if you like a moles in the ceiling, walls and tables this hotel is for you. If you want a nice, clean and pleasant sleep find something else.” Dec 23, 2005 by
Valerie from Greenville, TX
“Nice people, good location, but run down and slightly dilapidated. Parking is $5 a day and not included in room rate.” Dec 2, 2005 by
Steve from Natrona Heights, PA
“Not bad, for the price.” Nov 30, 2005 by
Charion from Greeley, CO
“If economy and location fit your criteria this is great. Don't stay there if you are use to the Marriott or Hilton because you will not even check in. Property is very old, but maintained pretty well for its age. The refrigerator in the room is a plus too. The other big plus is the parking downtown because that is very hard to find.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Nov 21, 2005 by
Frank from La Jolla, CA
“I will never stay in this hotel even if it is free. It is so dirty and old. They even charge you for using their parking lot. It smells so bad and everything in the room is old. Leaky faucet. Lots of ants and insects in the room.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Nov 20, 2005 by
Andy from Eagle, WI
“This hotel needs a major overhaul. It is showing its age when is the last time you stayed at a hotel that used a regular key and not a keycard. Still, it is cheap and clean, and located right in the middle of the action in Kona.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Nov 16, 2005 by
Gigi from San Diego, CA
“For what it is, it is just fine.” Nov 11, 2005 by
Joan from Boulder, CO
“Overall our experience was very good.” Nov 6, 2005 by
Chuck from Cedar Park, TX
“Pretty inexpensive for the location, but our experience was staying there on the night of our arrival to Hawaii and all we wanted to do was sleep. Sleep was difficult with all of the noise coming in the window, no AC which is ok comfort wise, but keeping the windows open made it too loud.” Jun 20, 2005 by
Deborah from Columbus, OH
“Uncle Billy's is in a wonderful location along the main strip in Kona. Surrounding a small, but lush, palm laden pool area, the hotel gave every room a lanai that faced out over the street and to the ocean across the street. The room showed its age a bit, and the signs throughout the room about limiting the number of towels to the number of registered guests, and signs at the breakfast/dinner buffet limiting guests to a single refill on beverages and admonishing that you can "take what you want but you'd best eat what you take" seemed a little stingey, but the great views and fabulous location made it easy to ignore any little negatives. I would definitely recommend Uncle Billy's to friends and family, especially if they can get the same great rate that I got.” May 27, 2005 by
Niles from Jacksonville, FL “tired, but servicable. exterior shabby, rooms clean and in good repair.” May 27, 2005 by
Steve from Dallas, TX
“This hotel is located right in the heart of Kona. It's just a short walk to the beach, where you can snorkel, or just stroll the streets of Kona and shop. The staff is friendly and helpful, and I got great value for the money at this hotel.” Apr 27, 2005 by
Diana from San Ramon, CA
“I like the location of the hotel. There was plenty of parking. The room was clean and I love the view. If the sliding glass door is open, I could hear the music playing across the street, but if I close the door the room was quiet.” Apr 25, 2005 by
Layne from Liberty Lake, WA
“Definitely not a 2 star hotel. This is a 1 star at best. I will not be using again anytime soon.” Mar 9, 2005 by
Sharon from Sebastopol, CA
“We were doing Hawaii on a budget, and the pricing fit. The location is great, and at least the top floor had a nice view of the ocean. Check-in staff could be a bit more friendly, and they have a lot of rules". Due to age of the hotel, there was a slight smell of mold, but incense knocked that out. Overall, Uncle Billy's is a good value for travelers on a budget, nice room with lots of storage with a working refrigerator and conveniently located."” Feb 23, 2005 by
Rob from Oakland, CA
“A great deal if you can get a good price. The location is good in the heart of Kona in walking distance to all the shops, if that's what you want. I would probably do it again for the same price.” Feb 11, 2005 by
Xin from Summit, NJ
“I stay in this hotel for one night. it looks good from outside, but dirty and smelly inside. After spending one night there, I will not come back again. the satff are not as friendly as those in one of 3 star hotel I stayed.” Jan 24, 2005 by
A.D. from Sioux Falls, SD
“The entrance door was very flimsy, the chain that was to further secure it -rusted. Neighbours were drunk and noisy and began fighting with each other at one in the morning. The room itself was adequate. It was very rundown but expected for a one-star hotel"."” Jan 15, 2005 by
Daniel from Arcata, CA
“Great Kona Hotel for the money and I like the balcony that looks out over the ocean” Jan 12, 2005 by
Piper from Pasco, WA
“When we put in for a 2 star hotel, we only got a 1 star (or something like that. . .it was not what I was billed or asked for, in otherwords). The price was good for the rooms. The breakfast food was not good. The best thing is the location. We got familiar with the town and got to use some of the close beaches without a car rental. This was a fun area for first time tourists.”
