“A nice upscale resort on a good spot on a beach, near Whalers Village, beautiful grounds with nice swimming pools good for kids. For dining, better do it elsewhere - too expensive.”

• Perfect location - snorkeling available right outside the hotel.
• Almost got billed for phone calls we did not make - staff did correct this though.

• Staff was very nice and gave us a late checkout which was nice.
• Short sheets on the bed, dead bugs on ceiling.

“The hotel was nice, but could have been cleaner. Our shower had a leak and a broken shower head and I'm sure if we had said something once we got to the room it would have been fixed, but just dealt with it. There were some dead bugs on the ceilings which was unattractive and odd. The room had a great view and the staff was truly 5 stars. They were kind and courteous and very helpful around checkout time allowing for a late checkout even though they had full bookings for our checkout date.”

• Westin Maui is a beautiful and fun hotel to enjoy as a family or with your partner, we loved it!
• Our only complaint about this hotel is the price of the meals, too expensive for portions.

“This hotel can be enjoyed by the young and the young at heart. Be prepared to spend time relaxing and just enjoying all this hotel has to offer. Remember that drinks and meals are a little pricey. With four star accommodations and service, you will not be disappointed.”

• Very nice resort, very tropical, you can just stay within the hotel.
• A hidden resort fee of $20/night per room in addition to the room rates.

• The front desk staff was very helpful in getting me a room close to the elevator.
• I did not like being charged a resort fee of $20.

“The Westin Maui is a very nice hotel. It has a good looking hotel lobby. Very inviting and what you would expect from a high quality hotel in west Maui. The staff rolled a twin bed in for my son, which was very comfortable. I was impressed that it could fit in the room considering the room was small. I like the upgraded flat screen TV and the mini refrigerator. The view of the ocean was fantastic from the ninth floor. December is a good time to visit Maui.”

• The location of this property is excellent and the spa was wonderful.
• We had an issue with ants in our room. As a result, the manager moved us to a new room immediately and upgraded us to an ocean view room.

“The common areas of the property including the spa, pool, fitness center, and restaurants were near excellent. The location is also ideal as there is great shopping onsite and it's very close to Lahaina Town which has additional shopping, restaurants and other activities for those wanting to escape the resort for the day.”

• Kannapolis beach is a beautiful beach and this is an excellent resort.
• It seemed like it was far away from everything else (Hanna, Halekala, and airport) could be a good thing.

“Beautiful hotel with excellent views. The beach is nice. The service was great. The staff was helpful. I might go to again but if I am going with a group of friends next time I will probably go to a different area than Kannapolis.”

• The views are incredible, the pools are amazing & the staff was wonderful.
• The rooms were a bit small, but all the beauty outside; and, the food was the very worse part. Only two places and one is not good.

“I loved this hotel. And plan to return someday. If you like all that Hawaii has to offer? Then you'll love this place. Although; not too much beach area. It worked for me; as there were sharks in the water during my stay yikes! The pools are the very best part; along with the wildlife. Some people do not like that part, but I love it!”

• Old, dated, dirty carpets, very difficult to find your way around premises.

• Most beautiful lobby of any hotel Ive been in.
• We were given a smoking room even though we requested a non smoking one.

“We loved our stay at the Westin. There really wasn't much to complain about. I thought the spa would be bigger, the Jacuzzi was very small but everything really was great. Especially the restaurants!”

• The waterfall view from room and flamingos in pond.
• Handicap access to adult pool & spa area were steps hard to do with a walker.

“I would love to go again to this exact hotel and get a room facing the garden view with waterfall. My friends started out facing opposite direction of dumpster, roof top & parking views; when they saw our great view across hallway facing opposite direction, the manager moved them for $50 a night; which made them totally happy to be there (they actually allowed them to use 4 of their star wood vouchers and not pay any cash) we all enjoyed the on surf bar & grills excellent quality of food!”

• The grounds were gorgeous and the staff very friendly.
• As with all high end hotels, you are nickel and dimed to death.

“My only real gripe was the nickel and diming. You would think for the price you would have at least one movie channel and one music channel, but they would rather sell you movies ($12.95) and music ($12.95 for 2 hours) on lodgenet. Also, when I checked out I tried to get a luggage cart and was in formed; rudely I might add, by one of the bellmen that hotel policy prohibits guests from handling luggage carts. in other words, you must call and tip a bellman to take your luggage down for you.”

“I've stayed at their location in palm springs and love the setting. However my Maui experience beat all my hopes. We were celebrating a 40th birthday party and the guest service personnel helped me make it special and bumped us even to an ocean view.”

• Rooms in the ocean tower need refurbishing. Carpet in room had several stains.

“Excellent location on Kannapolis beach. Lots of activities for guests of all ages. Plenty of space meant no problem finding chairs around the multiple pool areas. Ocean tower rooms looked like they could use a refurbishing but we were extremely pleased at the value we got for the price we paid.”

• Rooms smaller than expected.

“The Westin Maui captures to the spirit of Hawaii with an expansive fantasy pool, ocean view spa, and comfortable, well appointed rooms (newly remodeled with flat panel TVs as well as Westin's signature heavenly bed and bath amenities). in addition to solid accommodations and amenities, the resort's dining is above average, with a variety options from full service to snacks. The Westin Maui's only major drawback is that the property is aging, and it shows in the small room size (smaller than current standards) and dated architecture. What ultimately sets it apart, however, is the superior service. The staff is polite, helpful, and quick to provide assistance at a moment's notice. This property accommodates both families and couples looking for romance equally well, and is highly recommended for Maui vacationers.”

• Location, amenities, really didn't spend much time there. We were visiting with family.
• Breakfast buffet and menu choices were too expensive.

“The hotel was very nice. I do believe it is geared more for business travelers, conventions, etc. The room was kept clean each day. It is conveniently located near the Long Island Expressway (495). Menu choices were very good, but costly. An added convenience that was much appreciated, a free internet service was made available to guests in order to print out their boarding passes, if applicable.”

“Very friendly staff. We requested an ocean view with a king bed, non smoking. They initially did not have one available, but the staff was great in finding a room for us. They definitely went the extra mile. The location is great. This is, by far, the nicest looking facility on ka'anapali beach.”

• No coffee mugs. I hate paper cups for coffee.

“I was very please with my room, but might have been upgraded to a 3rd floor Garden View due to my Star wood Gold Preferred Membership. After the 1st night I used points to upgrade to ocean view 11th floor. The view was awesome. Beds are very comfy and robes are provided. Great view overall from the Lania once we moved to 11th floor. Great facility. Nice adult pool and evening entertainment.”

• Amazing open-air lobby, immediate beach access, luxuriously furnished rooms.
• Surprise resort fee extorted at check-in, crowded parking lot that blocks in cars.

• The pool and beachfront were incredible.
• Daily resort fee, but also have to pay extra for fitness classes.

“The pool was spectacular and their beachfront was excellent. One negative is that they make you pay a resort fee to cover parking, use of fitness facility, etc., but then charge extra for fitness classes. Overall, it was a great resort and I will definitely return.”

• Hotel has good location and easy beach access.
• Staff is incompetent; restaurant coffee is old and stale.

“Overall, the stay was enjoyable. One big letdown was that the key card stopped working in the middle of the stay, and it took 18 hours to get the new keys to work, this may be partially my fault, I was explained (after the fact) by their one competent employee, that using the old keys after the lock was switched to the new keys, would deactivate new keys as a security feature, however, the hotel staff never communicated the exact switchover time from old to new key. Regarding restaurant quality, their $30 breakfast buffet had lesser quality food and drink than the $12 breakfast buffet at my hometown Portland, or Marriott; examples include cheap juice from concentrate, stale coffee, waiters that give me cheap juice from concentrate after I ask "which fresh squeezed juices do you have"? The staff have good attitude, but not great abilities.”

“The Westin was the best of the 4 hotels we stayed at on Maui and Oahu. The pool area was the best I had ever been to. So many beautiful waterfalls and cascading streams. The room was very nice. We got a mountain view room on the 10th floor which was definitely not the worst room in the hotel.”

• Parking situation was horrible.

“Westin Maui resort and spa was beautiful, in a great location, with nice rooms and a huge pool area. A beautiful beach is right in front of the property, and black rock is right down the beach for snorkeling. Only complaint is the parking, as there are nowhere near enough spots for the guests, and cars are double parked over the entire lot at night by valets.”

• The room was more run down than I expected at a Weston.

“The hotel was lovely, but I wouldn't have been able to justify paying full price for it. The exterior grounds and common areas were beautiful, but the room lacked the same high standards in my book. The shower had mold in it, the bathroom sink broke, the air conditioning vent was dirty, and the wall paper was bubbling away from the wall.”

• Spa was not first class, though therapist was excellent.

“I would definitely return here. The rooms were a little smaller than most Westins, but the lanai made up for it. The location was perfect on a beautiful, calm beach neighboring great shopping and just a short drive from bustling Lahaina town. There were a few pools a large family pool with a slide and two smaller adult only pools. Service was great anywhere and everywhere on the property. If I had a complaint, it would be that they could step up the women's spa facility. Although I'd still recommend it for the breathtaking view from their relaxation room and their lead massage therapist who was amazing!”

• The hotel has a perfect location on a long pristine beach, great pool facilities and a handful of bars and restaurants within walking distance.
• The hotel did not do a great job at explaining how to use the various hotel feasibilities.

“The Westin in Kannapolis is a great place to stay. You can park your car in the lot and stay here for days. Everything you need or want is just a few steps away.”

• Beautiful grounds, friendly staff.
• Had to keep balcony door shut because of noise. Food was expensive.

“Stayed in one room at the beginning of trip. We were upgraded to an Ocean View room. Room was a newer or remodeled room directly above the waterfall which was beautiful but a bit noisy. Needed more shade around the pool. People began saving spots by 7:30 a.m. The staff was very friendly. Had a problem on the bill upon check out, but was promptly corrected. Came back at end of trip and was once again upgraded.”

• I wished that there were a ramen noodle shop near by.

“We brought our mom to Maui for her 60th birthday. This was her first family vacation ever. She had an ocean front room that she was very impressed with and she played on the beach with her grandchildren every day. This was a great family vacation for all of us. Thank you.”
