Jan from Lakewood, WA
“The remodeled rooms are very comfortable. It's great to have a Starbucks and jamb juice in the entrance. Being able to walk directly to the beach is great. The location is also nice in the sense that you can walk to most anything in Waikiki and it's easy to access the freeway for other island excursions. The parking charge ($25 daily) seems steep but I think it might be typical for the local hotels.” Jun 14, 2007 by
Cindy from North Richland Hills, TX
“Friendly staff, lovely rooms with beautiful beach view, nice beach, convenient location, relaxing atmosphere, nice complimentary activities (lei making, hula lessons, plant walk, name translated into Hawaiian).” Dec 27, 2006 by
Alice from Woodland, CA
“What a disappointment. This hotel was hard to get to on the day we arrived. There was construction going on and there was no way to enter the "drive-up" part of the hotel. After four attempts (driving around and around the blocks), a construction vehicle was moved and we were able to drive up to the hotel entrance. This took over an hour. Upon check in we were informed that we could not use the room we had booked because we had our toddler with us. We explained that he did not need a bed (we travel with bedding for him) and that I was fully aware that we would likely receive a room with only one bed (which was fine with us). The upgraded room was falling apart. Stained carpets, and if you moved the curtains, pieces of ceiling fell down on the hide-a-bed below the curtains. You can't adjust the air conditioner. It's either high or low no temperature control. We would have preferred to have the fresh air with the window open, however there was so much construction noise during the day, and traffic noise in the evening. The pool was much too small for such a large hotel. Once the beach-front wing remodel is completed and occupied, the pool area will not suffice or meet the needs of customers wanting a break from the beach (example: windy days or when the ocean is especially cold).the location is top-notch! This alone saved the hotel stay. The restaurant next to the pool had reasonable prices for breakfast and very delicious macadamia nut pancakes. Absolutely the best I have ever had.” Dec 27, 2006 by
Mei from West Covina, CA
“The room and the facility don¿t look like a 4 star hotel at all.” Dec 25, 2006 by
Keith from Morro Bay, CA
“The outrigger reef is in the process of a renovation and is not at a 3 or 4 star level during this time. If you want that experience, stay somewhere else.” Dec 24, 2006 by
Susan from Kailua Kona, HI
“They are currently upgrading this hotel. Had we known this we would not have booked it. Our room was extremely old and there was no bath tub.” Dec 22, 2006 by
Muriel from Langhorne, PA
“This hotel was fine, but we expected it to have a nicer quality to the decorating.” Dec 22, 2006 by
Chris from Phoenix, AZ
“Low quality hotel with good restaurants although there is a problem keeping birds out of the open-air restaurants/bars. Close proximity to beach and shopping. Hotel room outdated and in not very good condition. Small rooms, outdated bathroom with fixtures that need to be replaced. No shelves in bathroom so toiletries have to remain in travel bags. No hair dryer. Bad carpet. Looks as though no reinvestment of profits goes back into keeping the hotel up-to-date. No internet access in rooms is so 5 years ago.” Dec 21, 2006 by
Monica from Fremont, CA
“This is an excellent hotel and guests should take advantage of its location and that there is literally a reef and beach just steps from the hotel.” Dec 20, 2006 by
Sandy from Smithtown, NY
“The staff was friendly, the location excellent. Construction noise during the day would have been annoying if we did not go out touring. Eating at the restaurant poolside was relaxing and service was very good. Buffet was average. Room was nothing special.” Dec 12, 2006 by
Dean from Altadena, CA
“The property says that they will be remodeling and hopefully that will increase their rating.” Dec 7, 2006 by
Martie from San Bruno, CA
“I overpaid for the hotel, it is not a four star rating, correct rating is between to 2.5 to 3 star rating. Bottom line, I overpaid for the room.” Dec 6, 2006 by
Rebecca from Roseville, MN
“This is a great hotel. The location is great - right on Waikiki beach. We enjoyed eating and having a drink at the restaurants which were also right on the beach. We also were grateful for the hospitality room since our flight left at midnight - it was nice to shower later in the day.” Dec 6, 2006 by
Jamie from Ogden, UT
“This was an ok hotel. The room was very spacious but also old and outdated. There was construction everywhere we turned which was a turn-off. The staff and services were good for the most part. Overall, I was pleased with our stay.” Dec 5, 2006 by
Sandy from Draper, UT
“This hotel is in a great location and has plenty to do both at the hotel and within walking distance. It is family friendly and had pretty good restaurants. The rooms leave quite a bit to be desired if you are expecting a "resort". They are very "days inn". Overall the hotel is nice, but the rooms are a real let down.” Dec 5, 2006 by
Tim from Marietta, GA
“The star rating seemed incorrect to me and therefore the experience did not meet my expectations.” Dec 4, 2006 by
Ray from Campbell, CA
“The location by the beach and a park is excellent. The hotel itself is under construction as is the nearby area, causing streets to be impassable to pedestrians. Construction work is audible at 8 a.m. Room was barely bigger than the comfortable king-size bed, and the only option was a shower, not a bath.” Dec 3, 2006 by
Wingkai from Palo Alto, CA
“Very noisy during the day due to construction next door. The hotel itself is under renovation, making it very ugly and dirty. Only a small shower stall in room; no bath tub. Tiles are cracked in the bathroom. No internet in the room. Hotel is somewhat old and run-down. ” Nov 23, 2006 by
Tom from Riverside, CA
“Hotel will be a nice area once construction is finish. Each morning was greeted by construction noise at day light.” Nov 20, 2006 by
Steven from Temecula, CA
“This hotel was under construction. Lower floors, view of dumpsters, oldest part of property, etc.” Nov 19, 2006 by
Susanna from Nanuet, NY
“Although the hotel staff was quite friendly, the hotel should not be rated 4 stars at this time. It's under reconstruction, with serious obstructions to the restaurants, beach and gym facilities. The noise level made it impossible to enjoy the garden patio. The room was not always restocked with basic essentials. While the front desk staff was very nice and accommodating, the hotel does not warrant a four star rating at this point in time as the renovations truly intrude upon a guest's stay.” Nov 18, 2006 by
Matt from Newport Beach, CA
“You should have told us that the hotel was going through the renovation while we were there. The meal is utterly unattractive. The facility that was available was grubby look.” Nov 18, 2006 by
Marc from Cumming, GA
“Beds are hard, location is very loud and someone when through my personal belongings each day when the room was being cleaned. Never again.” Nov 16, 2006 by
Christopher from Benicia, CA
“The hotel is very nicely located and the staff was friendly. The rooms are more like a 2.5-star hotel (we were upgraded to a partial ocean view). The restaurant was okay -- a very bland salad bar, but had a great steak (you cook it yourself). Probably would not stay there again.” Nov 6, 2006 by
Lisa from Redondo, CA
“This hotel was a huge disappointment! There was construction going on everywhere, the room¿s smelled musky, and they were tiny! There is no way this should ever be considered more than a 2 star hotel.” Oct 24, 2006 by
Melinda from Grass Valley, CA
“It is right on the beach and is in an upscale part of Waikiki. The staff is truly amazing and so very gracious. The construction/remodel that was going on directly across from our room was very disappointing and we were not told about this before hand. I would stay here again but only after the remodel was complete. The food was good but not great and overpriced.” Oct 2, 2006 by
Donnie from Keaau, HI
“We had an OLD room that was like a narrow closet, the sink area had been painted over and was all peeling, the closet was in the bathroom so your clothes felt damp. Our room was directly across the street from a building demolition, the dust was blowing on our balcony and in our room. When I asked if our room had a sofa bed she asked why we needed it and how many people were in our room. I said we may have my daughters friend join us after a concert but wasn't sure as yet. She told me I'd need to pay an additional forty dollars if she did. I think they should have paid us to stay there. I have lived in Hawaii for the past 17 years and have been to many hotels.” Mar 18, 2006 by
Bonita from Hebron, ND
“We stayed here 10 years ago and had a very good experience, so when we went back this year, Feb of 2006 I was disappointed to see that our room was "run down" especially the bathroom. We had a small room that faced the Army Museum and it was noisy when we sat on the balcony. The staff was excellent, but our bathroom wasn't very clean. Hair and a bug on the floor. The carpet in the lobby looked like it needed cleaning. ” 2 of 2 people found this review helpful.Nov 15, 2005 by

“The hotel is a little hard to find but its a nice deal if you want direct access to the beach. Its a bit of a noisy hotel in the lobby area. The pool area is very nice but closes at 10 pm on the weekend. The room was very nice but the bathroom fixtures may need some updating. My sink was at least 20 years old, off-white, cracked and permanently stained, a real contrast from the nicely appointed room.” 3 of 3 people found this review helpful.Sep 8, 2005 by

“Abe met me at the front desk with a friendly smile. Called me by name every time he saw me. Valet expensive $15 but no other choice in Hawaii. Valet staff friendly and prompt.Friday activities with Hawaiian culture, music, lau making. Nice touch.” 2 of 2 people found this review helpful.Aug 7, 2005 by

“The construction of the hotel will always keep it in the 3 category. The beach is razor thin and you fry unless you pay to rent an umbrella. The location is convenient to restaurants and shopping. The staff sent the cellphone we left behind to us at no charge.” 2 of 2 people found this review helpful.Dec 2, 2004 by
Jeff K. from San Francisco “The room we were originally put into was tiny, the air conditioning was spotty and the bathroom - a throwback to the 1960's (when the hotel was built). The two saving graces were 1) the location on Waikiki Beach, 2) a great front desk person who upgraded us to a penthouse after hearing about our difficult time. Don't waste your time going to the Shorebird, they make you cook your own food - definitely NOT something I'm down with on Vacation. There is also a distinct smell of raw sewage that wafts from the area around the hotel. Sorry to be so frank, but I give the hotel 3 stars at best, the staff/service 5 stars.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Oct 12, 2004 by
“Very clean, no problems on check-in, beach and sun were as desired, privacy was what we wanted. Great, great time.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Sep 26, 2004 by
David W. from Zebulon “Rooms were dirty and old (mold, ancient fixtures in bath), street noise was very loud, a/c was even louder. Lobby was always very crowded; beach area was small and also crowded. Hotel was located 2 blocks outside of area on map.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Sep 13, 2004 by
Michael R. from Makawao, HI “Very nice.” 0 of 1 people found this review helpful.Sep 6, 2004 by
Nicole M. from Aiea, HI “My stay at The Outrigger Reef On The Beach in Honolulu was quite pleasant. The staff was extremely friendly, and the rooms were very clean. I am a sucker for freebies- I received a coupon/discount book, free coffee in the morning (a lot of hotels charge for this), the toiletries provided were from their spa. The elevator was a bit cramped, and I couldn't get the sliding door open at first-they had old locks. I had the hotel right as opposed to the back tower. I could see the beautiful ocean from my room. What a great deal!” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.
