• Non-registered guest using the pool and facilities.

“Pleasant hotel, well maintained grounds. Tropical setting. The (spa) hot tub was not working. Observed locals (not hotel guests) using the pools/facilities because of proximity to Lydgate Beach Park. Needs to beef up security: Install room key access for entrance to pools, facilities, etc. or have a guard visible to deter trespassing. Great location- near shopping, airport, attractions. Nice to walk/bike the paths in Lydgate Beach Park, great ocean view.”

• Close to the airport, close to beach and very clean.

“The hotel exceeded my expectations. We just needed a room for about 10 hours since our flight was leaving very late at night. We were able to enjoy the beach one last time and see the sunset!”

• My daughter was getting married on the island. We needed a large room to get ready in. They accommodated us with no problems!
• Several times I saw spilled food on the floor in the hallway; not sure if it was a room service issue or guests leaving a mess. Fitness room was not ok!

“This is the third time I have stayed at this hotel. They recently went through a renovation. Very comfortable and easy access to internet. It is nice to see smiling faces of the employees and all are helpful and friendly.”

“It is right next to Lydgate Park and has a great central location to all of the Kauai attractions. Our room had a California King sized bed and had so much space. I would definitely recommend this hotel.”

• It exceeded my needs and expectations.
• The restaurant wasn't open when we went to eat breakfast late in the morning.

“This hotel focuses on providing info regarding the island and what it has to offer and has received awards for it doing just that. Staff was very friendly. Beautiful grounds and it's very, very near to the beach with the children wading pool and a great smoking spot as well as great stuff for surfing. The islands best public playground and an outstanding park are only a few minutes walk from the hotel toward the beach.”

• No internet connection and carpets are dirty.

“The hotel is beachfront and is less than 10 minutes to the airport and the town of Kapaa. Nicely landscaped but carpet is dirty. When we arrived there was only one when 2 flights just arrived within 30 minutes of each other. have to wait a while before I was helped.”

• Great location. Very nice beach.
• Had to carry bags up and down stairs; elevator broken. Very limited TV station selection; no movie channels.

“Greatly enjoyed our stay. Beautiful and convenient location. They had aloe vera plants on property for sunburned guests like myself; major plus. Broken elevator was not a big deal for us, but may be for others.”

• It was close to Lydgate beach park which has a great lagoon for kids.
• Beds/pillows were hard and uncomfortable.

• Nice large, comfortable room with great views.
• One of the elevators was not working at the time which made hauling luggage difficult.

“I loved it here and it was at an awesome price. The room was larger than others that I have stayed at on the island and the bed was very comfortable. Also, Lydgate Beach Park which is a beach that I love, is just a short walk behind the hotel.”

“This hotel had excellent facilities, my only concern was that the stairs were in need of a vacuum and this wasn't done during my 3 day stay. You needed your own laptop and internet access was only available in the reception area.”

“Good location and great rate 15 minutes from airport. Renovated rooms (especially kings) are much nicer than standard doubles. They've updated most furnishings and are still renovating facilities, but this hotel shows its age and could use better maintenance and newer bathrooms.”

“Old hotel whose recent paint job does little to hide true age. Located in the middle of everything, but close to nothing. Bed as hard as a rock, shower smaller than imaginable. Best part of hotel is the friendly staff. Hotel should not be considered a resort, but a place to sleep between jam packed days.”

“This is a great hotel that is perfectly located on the island. It is only a hour to hour and a half from anywhere on the island. The staff is friendly and helpful. The large pool is under construction, but it didn't matter to us as we wanted beach and relaxation instead. The showers are pretty small. Overall, this is one of the best experiences with a local hotel that we have ever had. We would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling on a budget, looking for great staff and or looking for a great launch point to explore the island and it's many activities. Olympic cafe is horrible: bad service, bad food, etc. Scotty's Barbecue is awesome! It has everything you could want in a great restaurant with a great setting. Poipu Burgers in Poipu is probably the best, true Hawaiian breakfast eatery you can find.”

“I stayed in the Garden Tower, and my room included a king-size bed, as well as a couch and living area. The room was spacious and clean, it far exceeded my expectations for the price I paid and the star level. I have stayed in comparable star and price hotels on Kauai, and this was the cleanest and best. I am going to stay at this hotel the next time I travel to Kauai, without a doubt.”

• It was pretty clean, newly paint.
• Mail pool was closed.

“Breakfast buffet was really overpriced, breakfast was closed, milk warm when hotel was chosen it showed two queen beds and a sofa in the room when it actually had two double beds. I picked the room because we had to pick-up a room for two nights because of rescheduling flights due to airline bankruptcies and having to reschedule. Our trip was for my daughter's wedding and we had to share the room for one night with my son and daughter-in-lay. Double beds where not large enough for the men in our party and their spouse, really need queen size beds!”

• It was within walking distance of a decent beach.
• The room was filthy!

“Horrible experience. The room was filthy. I had to clean the floor in the bathroom and still didn't feel comfortable walking on it with bare feet. The glasses left on the counter had lip marks on them. disgusting. Also the bed was hard as a rock and the pillows flat. Thank God we only had to stay one night. It's only redeeming quality was the cute Koi fish and it's close proximity to Lygate beach. It's a good beach for children.”

• The room was spacious and it included a refrigerator and a pull out couch.
• There was a leak in the ceiling in our room and a lot of the amenities listed were not available.

“This is a nice hotel, but not a 3 star if you compare it to a Hilton or Sheraton. It was under construction, being upgraded and the roof in our room leaked. We could have changed rooms, but didn't feel up to it and the leak stopped the second night. The main pool and Jacuzzi were closed as well as the gift shop and other amenities. We liked the location of the hotel and it was nice and quiet, so for us it was a great place to stay.”

• Nice staff especially housecleaning.
• Practically every public facility was closed for renovation.

“If you want a 2 star hotel and you're not expecting too much, this hotel is fine. It has been undergoing renovation for about 2-3 years and many of the public areas are off-limits, e.g. One of the pools, the spa, the snack bar and restaurant, one of the room wings, etc. There is definitely a cash flow problem here with getting things fixed quickly. However, the staff is friendly, the room was clean and cheap, and we didn't spend much time there anyway.”

• Motel quality at best, our newly remodeled room needs remodeling again, very dated.

“Should be a 1-2star hotel. 3-star, no way! Staff was friendly, park nearby was the saving grace. The lobby was nice; all the rest of the facility was down hill from there. Moldy tile, ants, poor AC control, and again this was in a newly remodeled room! The remodel is still going on and is quite messy. Everywhere junk and debris. Truckloads of debris in the tennis courts (unusable). Overall location good, facilities has seen better days and that's the problem.”

“The hotel has easy beach access to a great snorkel spot if the surf is down. It's right near the Wailea river valley and a nice scenic highway. Not a far drive from the airport, but if you're looking for a walk to nightlife or shopping, this isn't the place for you.”

• The rooms were like those of a very old hotel and had ants.

“This hotel (formerly resort) needs a lot of work. Some of it is undergoing renovation now; some services were unavailable (restaurant, king beds); the rooms were kept neat but very basic (though bugs or ants were crawling around); the shower stall was European like (very small); and though the room has a large sliding door, there was no deck or balcony.”

“The restaurant hours were limited, not convenient. The bar was closed, non existent. The main pool with hot tub was closed. The gym was a makeshift gym worthless.”

• They upgraded us to great cottage - near great beach, and nice grounds.
• A bit worn furnishing-wise, but clean.

“For those looking for a solid moderate hotel, this one fits the bill - it is not a flash resort, but what it is a nice and comfortable place near a great beach (especially if you have children). Our room was clean and comfortable and quite large (included living room and kitchen area, as well as a back porch). Grounds are well kept, and public areas are airy. Needs some updating and the restaurant could be better, but staff is friendly and we enjoyed it very much.”

• I thought the location was fair, though not as advertised. It advertised a private beachfront, when really it is on a very loud beachfront.
• It smelled of mildew, there were a lot of cockroaches, and it was a dimly lit, unattractive room.

“It was listed as a 3-star hotel, but it was really rundown. The room we got was supposed to be "ocean-view"- we paid extra for this and it had a view instead of the crappy pool with a postage stamp view of the water. We were scared to go to sleep at night because of the cockroaches in the bathroom and because of the mildew in the air. I will say that the staff was very friendly and cordial.”

• Many mosquitoes in our room and my wife had several bites during the night. We managed to kill 3 but did not get all of them.

• The location was nice and the casita was nice.
• The mattress was the worst. I have ever slept in.

“I would never recommend this hotel to anyone. The staff were not very helpful, the bed was terribly uncomfortable and they did not follow through on the reservation request that they confirmed but changed once we arrived. Had I not prepaid for the room I would have sought other accommodations elsewhere. Terrible hotel for a 3 star compared to the other 3-star hotels you advertise on the site.”

“This hotel is for people that would like a close hotel to the beach and don't plan on spending much time in the room. I would have paid more if I knew how the rooms were prior to getting there.”

• The main lobby was the only good thing about this property. The cleaning lady was nice. Thats about all I can say good about this place!
• Poor location. Poor customer service.

“Don't stay at this hotel! Our room was located right next door to the laundry room, which turned out to be the "social hour" location for all the old ladies (and many locals) doing their laundry late at night and early in the morning. I asked to move every night I was there and was never accommodated. On our last night, the laundry room flooded, and they were cleaning the carpets with loud vacuums until very late at night. Needless to say, my family (with young children) never got a good night sleep while staying here. The rooms themselves are just barely average, and the location of the hotel is not great. They brag about the "great swimming beach" that is very close, but this beach was dirty and the water was not nice to swim in. The pool was overrun by locals at night (who I doubt were actually staying at the hotel), and overall this hotel was a very bad experience!”

• The location is wonderful the grounds were lovely.
• The room smelled like mildew. I ordered a king bed and upon arrival was given 2 double beds. The facilities are run down.

“We were able to acquire a king-size bed on our second and third day. The buildings themselves seemed to be poorly maintained. There was the smell of mildew in the rooms. Beautiful views were obstructed by dirty windows.”
