“Front desk highly recommended that I let them call me a Town car to get into the city rather than use a cab, which I did. I later learned that a cab would have only been $25.00 and that the Town car they called was an illegal company.”

• EXCELLENT staff and location. Rooms are nicely appointed and roomy for NYC.
• The wireless internet is a disaster. $10 per day per device. 2 computers and an iPod $30/day.

“This boutique hotel is ideally located in midtown and has a very cool atmosphere thanks to the very popular bar that is frequented by locals and visitors alike. The rooms are clean and elegantly furnished buy they are extremely small even by NYC standards (I could barely fit in the shower). But overall a good experience.”

• The hotel staff did not have its hand out for money every time you asked for something.
• The beds were quite low to the ground; the bathroom size was too small.

“Younger people would like the edgy quality of this hotel, but people needed comfort features would find it lacking. The small size of the bathroom, the low-to-the-floor bed, and the dimness in the room and the hotel, in general, all made it hard on this 60-something traveler. On the positive side, the hotel staff was all knowledgeable and friendly, seemed happy that I was their guest, and did not expect a tip for every bit of advice or service. I found myself being more financially responsive to them, as a result. Good training equals good service equals a good tip, in my traveling experience. My 40-year-old son and 29-year-old daughter were very impressed that I was staying at the Hudson, so it may have been worth any inconvenience just for the bragging rights!”

• The lobby area and bar were decorated very nicely.
• It was loud. There was constant banging of pipes or something.

“The Renaissance is a very pretty boutique hotel in Midtown Manhattan. The room we had was tiny, but we expected that in an NYC hotel. The lobby is one floor above the entrance to the hotel, which can be a bit of a hassle. The bar area and lobby are very nicely decorated and have a warm yet cosmopolitan feel. I would have enjoyed our stay much more if the hotel hadn't been so loud. I heard banging all night, and I think the age of the building was the blame. I think what I heard was the elevator, pipes, and basic moans and groans of an old building.”

• For a Manhattan hotel, I was impressed with the size of the room and that it had a kitchenette.
• Small bathroom.

“I was happy with this hotel. I was there with my mother (70) and daughter (12). It more than met our needs. We only had one bed, but they brought up a roll away which worked out nicely. This would not have worked if we had come as a family and would have needed 2 beds.”

• A little noisy from being so close to the airport, but is well insulated.

“I would definitely recommend this hotel. It is not a 5 star hotel, but everything was great. It is so close to the airport, I walked! They have a nice free shuttle, too, that I used on the way back.”

• The lobby was beautiful. Bathroom was spacious. Convenient location.
• Can constantly hear elevator in rooms close to it. No coffee pot in rooms. $8 coffee.

“The room was very clean. They didn't have any King beds available, but with 2 double beds, we had more than enough room for our luggage. Ask for a room away from the elevator because if not, you'll hear the elevator go up and down constantly. My biggest complaint is that there was no coffee pot in the room. You are forced to order $8 coffee from room service. I have never been in a hotel room without a coffee pot. My husband & I have to have our coffee as soon as we wake up.”

“I got what I paid for - a room with a bed, a bathroom and a TV. I had to search for an ice machine that worked. The small coffee maker provided had no carafe. I could barely open the doors or drawers to the "closet". The room was clean and the shower was hot and the TV worked.”

• Atmosphere and hotel staff was well above average.
• A bit of a challenge finding the entrance. Not labeled. Lobby dark.

“A very cool vibe permeated this hotel. Although most areas of the lobby / elevator were dark it added to the positive atmosphere. Rooms were small (as would be expected in NYC) but clean and efficient, especially for business travel. Staff was very friendly and helpful.”

“I've stayed in converted apartment buildings in Manhattan before. This one by far was the worst. Dumpy bathroom and room. terrible bed and bedding. There was just nothing I liked at all about this place.”

“This hotel was amazing. The subway stop is just around the corner. There is a Starbucks just outside on the corner. Central park is only a short distance and Times Square only a few blocks away. Perfect!”

• I loved the location! The hotel was clean and the staff was friendly.

“This hotel suited are needs well. We stayed in the city two nights and this hotel was within walking distance to many main attractions such as Bryant Park, Rockefeller Square, Times Square, Theatre District, 1/2 price ticket booth, and many subway entrances. Our room was small, as was the bed, but it was clean and a great home base. The staff was friendly and helpful and the hotel even stored our luggage for us all day free of charge on the day of our check-out.”

• Multiple problems.

“The hotel was a good value, but there were a couple of problems (not entirely the hotel's fault). First, when we walked in our room an hour before out dinner reservations we flip-oped on the lights and a fuse blew. I called the front desk and it took 45 minutes for them to send someone to address the problem and that was after multiple calls to the front desk. Then at 6 am the next morning there was a problem with the smoke alarms in the hallway and they started going off. When that was fixed the maintenance people used to loud speakers to announce to the whole floor 3 times that it was a false alarm. Needless to say, I didn't get back to sleep after all the commotion.”

“Nice staff, clean and well-appointed rooms. Room was decent sized by NY standards. Coffee was available in the common area one of the mornings we were there, but not the other two days. Staff was nice and responsive, and the hotel is only a block away from a subway stop.”

• I loved the way the hotel was arranged and decorated it was beatiful, I also liked that there was a gym in the hotel and its own bar in front.
• I think they could have included more amenities and continental breakfast for the price.

• Great size bathtub to relax in.
• I was asked if I wanted a king size bed and said "yes" not what I got.

“This Hotel was very fancy for a new southern traveler like me. I appreciated being able to drop off my luggage prior to checking in then not having to pay as I was expecting. I am also glad for delivery of food from local vendors so I did not have to pay so much for food & drinks. I guess the economy has forced me not to be able to splurge on those extras.”
