“WOW. This was a huge room for a London hotel -- big queen bed, nice desk, big bathroom, gorgeous. All the amenities including an American power outlet. The gym was small but workable (and most London hotels have no gym at all). The staff was great, very accommodating, my room was ready at 10am on the day I checked in. Free oranges at the front desk and in the gym, electric kettle with cocoa, tea, coffee and biscuits in the room. Fabulous.”

“The hotel is clean, comfortable, and has anything you need, but the most important thing its the excelled location it has. It is a block away of a food store, subway station, pharmacy, restaurants, hair salons and a walking distance from the Victoria and Albert Museum.”

“The hotel meets Marriott standards and I found the staff to be attentive and friendly and the room to be very clean and comfortable. I was very happy with this hotel, would stay there again, and would recommend it to others.”

“Numerous traveler complaints suggest that non-refurbished rooms are unsatisfactory. I was fortunate to get a refurbished room that was comfortable, though not what I'd call four-star. When all rooms are furnished to the standard I was fortunate to experience, this will be a nice moderate (probably 3-star) hotel.”

“Except for the restaurant food onsite, it was a great hotel (for sure not a 4 star, maybe a 3) and the location was excellent. Felt extremely safe in Kensington and very safe inside the hotel.

“Very classy and expensive hotel. Hotel staff did not know English enough to be understood, so I never knew I had to call room service to get a simple cup of tea.”

“It was very sub par for what I was expecting. The carpet was cut short from meeting the edge of the room. Curtain rods weren't on straight. The TV looked like it came from a thrift store with poor selection of TV channels. I didn't even want to venture into the internet service. This to me wasn't a 5-star hotel. It was more and upscale 4-star.”

“Staff was friendly, breakfast was fine. Location made it very simple to get around London. Two short blocks to underground. Hotel wasn't as nice as a Marriott for example, but I thought it was good value for the price. The room was small but larger than others that I have stayed-in in London. I would stay there again. Because of the Channel Train breaking down and possible British Airways strike, the staff was stressed by standed passengers. They seemed to handle it well.”

“The hotel was very clean and located in an area which was not far to the central of London. The rooms were good sized and the bathrooms were very modern. Everything was in good condition. Any way, the one of the staff member from the front office was mega fantastic! He was very helpful and cheerful on the check-in time. He supposed to be nominate as employee of the month. Great person who knows every single answer which we are asked about Mercure Hotel City Bakside! Good job and magnificent customer services! Well done.”

“On the positive side: Location was PERFECT. It was a 3 minutes walk to the St. James's Place Underground stop. The room was excellent for our needs. We had a queen size room and while not extremely soft, the bed was adequate. On the negative: While we had emailed twice to request a baby bed, when we arrived to check in, they seemed perturbed when we asked about it and just said, "we did not receive a request." But, when we did make it to a room, friendly staff brought a baby bed to our room. Ice machine was broken the whole time and bar staff was not extremely friendly or helpful in getting some. Again, I felt like I was disturbing someone by even asking.”

Jolly Hotel St. Ermin's “Great character old hotel that has obviously been recently renovated (at least our room). The front desk staff was helpful, we had several requests and they were met immediately by staff members. Great value for the rates we paid - we could easily have paid double in London for similar (or lessor) accommodations.”

“Do yourself and other travelers a huge favor and do not stay here. Hopefully the owner of the Tophams Hotel Belgravia will go out of business and this heap of incompetence will no longer be a brown smelly stain on Londons reputation. The rooms are horrid and the staff treats all guests as irritants. They advertise this place as a 4-star hotel but it doesnt even deserve to be open for business. We (2 adults, 1 small child) had one night reservations at Tophams Hotel Belgravia at both the beginning and end of our 2 week vacation. The reservations included free breakfast and my credit card was charged the full amount for one of the nights, months in advance, to guarantee the rooms. The receptionist could find no record of either reservation and seemed genuinely irritated that I was interrupting her. Luckily I had paper versions of the emailed reservation info and proof that I had paid. Only then did a room become available but her attitude remained boorish and annoyed. I asked her to make sure we had a reservation for our return in two weeks and she said agreed. I then asked about the free breakfast the next morning and was told that none was included. I again pointed to the emails that clearly stated that breakfast was included with our stay and she re-stated that despite what my emailed confirmation said, it was not included. I asked to speak to her manager and after a very audible huff she dialed a number which rang. Wanting to get on with our sightseeing I asked for the key and told her I would talk to the manager later. We dropped of our luggage and quickly left to tour London. When we returned that night we were appalled by the bathroom and upset that we hadnt noticed it earlier because it was way too late to do anything about it now. The vinyl floor material was completely separated from the floor itself and it squished under our feet and the sight and odor of black mold filled the room. The support bracket supporting the shower head and hose was broken so you had to juggle the shower head and soap at the same time. The next morning the hotel again refused to honor the free breakfast and they could never find a manager for me to talk to. Upon our return to London we braced ourselves for another bad experience and told ourselves it was only one night. We walked in to the hotel lobby the receptionist recognized me but informed me that they had no reservation in my name. I whipped out my emails, reminded her about the conversation two weeks ago and she (with a smile on her face) told me that they had no reservation and no available rooms! I told her she was putting two foreigners with a small child out on the streets of London at night with nowhere to go and no knowledge of even where to begin looking. I demanded to speak to a manager, anyone above her, anyone but her, please. She obliged by calling that same number and you guessed it ring but no manager. Please do yourself and all travelers a favor by helping to put this pathetic excuse for a hotel out of business. London will be better for it, and since the owner and manager is intent on running a waste dump he can go pursue his lifes dream in that field and the reception staff can get a job better suited to their personalities. The Tophams Hotel Belgravia was that bad!”

“Not one of the nicer Hilton's that I have stayed at, it was nevertheless acceptable and in a reasonable location away from center city. The mattress and bed were in poor shape but the room was otherwise comfortable, despite its small size. This was the smallest of the four rooms I stayed in in London and Paris.”

“The hotel was very nice and in a good safe area. A block from the Tube. Had a little grocery store between tube and hotel which helped save some expense too. Friendly and helpful staff. Would definitely recommend this hotel to others. Rooms were big! Loved it. As far as the phone thing and using the toll free number. When asking the staff about using the card they did tell me it would be a pound and half per connection but neglected to tell me to use the toll free number, so you can imagine my surprise upon checkout the phone fees I still had to pay. But other than that all was perfect.”

“I was traveling on business for 10 nights with a club room reserved. After an 11 hour flight from the states, I arrived at the hotel at 10 am. I was told rooms were not available until the official 3 pm check in time. However, if I paid 30 pounds, a room would magically become available for immediate check in. The front desk would not budge on this - either pay now or wait 5 hours. This is the third time I stayed at this hotel this year. I did not encounter this issue previously. If this is how this hotel is going to treat its business travelers, I'll choose to go elsewhere next time. This is a very poor business model in order to try to generate more revenue. They may have gotten 30 pounds out of me now, but for my next 10 night trip to London in January (and every quarter) , they aren't getting my business.”

“The room was quiet and clean with appropriate amenities such as small refrigerator, and enough room for a small table and chairs. With more people having i phones and the like, a hotel of this type should offer free Wi-Fi at lease in the lobby or bar. Having to use computers that are L1 per 10 minutes is just a way of nickel and dime for the guests.”

“This is a hotel that is safe and clean. It is in a really great location. Near some decent restaurants and 3 in walk from the High Street Kensington tube station. The only drawback is the outdated furnishings, but this is minor. I would recommend this hotel, especially for the price.”

“This hotel is a short walk from the Kilburn Park Underground Station. Lobby area is standard Marriott fare, while it seems the rooms have not yet made the Marriott renovation list. They were clean but a bit worn and the bathroom needed some repairs to tile and such. However, it was a good place to rest your head for the night and get around the town easily on the Tube.”

“I found the hotel staff to be very friendly and helpful. The room was clean as well as the overall appearance of the hotel. The hotel was only about a half mile from the underground with plenty of small coffee shops and restaurants nearby. The only complaint is the hotel charges 15 GBP per day for the use of the internet! If your a sports fan of American sports, I would suggest the sports cafe in Piccadilly Square.”

“This hotel is very convenient for travel from Gatwick Airport. Other than that, it is in dire need of renovations. We found the room shabby and the bed very uncomfortable.
