  • They tried to keep it clean.

“This was a Howard Johnson Motorlodge in a very rundown part of Springfield, MA. The area felt unsafe. The facility was very worn out, although the staff did their best to keep it clean. For example, the bathroom was probably cleaner than mine at home, but the wallpaper was peeling off the wall and the sink, toilet and tub were all stained with cigarette burns. We asked for non-smoking but the room had obviously had a smoker the night before or maybe all the time. It appeared most of those staying were contractors not business people. There was no where to eat breakfast for miles.”

  • I had a room on the ground level.
  • Everything!

“Toilet was not raised and no grab bar in shower. Bottom of tub was dirty, although the manager claimed it wasn't; however, once I ran the hot water it washed the grim away. There was hair along the top of the tub. Wallpaper was peeling along the top of the shower, and under the sink. There was a 36 sq. in. sopping wet area outside the bathroom door before I ran any water. The manager shrugged his shoulders when I pointed that out to him. Hole in the wall near the door (not made by the door handle). Telephone had no dial tone so couldn't be used. TV remote didn't work; the manager claimed I'd messed it up; however, he went on to say he couldn't check every remote every day. The selection of TV channels was very limited. The night manager assigned an already occupied room to the couple checking in front of me!! Coffee pot did not work--it turned itself off 15 seconds after I turned it on. There was no refrigerator or microwave. It was a sorry excuse for a 2-star hotel and very disappointing; a Motel 6 or Knight's Inn would have been better.”

  • It was near a pretty body of water.
  • I
couldn't give my son a bath because there were no plugs for the bath.

“I couldn't give my son a bath because there were no plugs for the bath. The continental breakfast was worse than average (they ran out of coffee). There were a lot of signs that said If there's anything we can do to make your stay more comfortable, let us know, but this seemed like an empty slogan. Although we had a non-smoking room, it had a funky smell which could have been smoke residue.”

  • No actual graffiti on the walls!
  • Not clean, or cared for.

“Difficult to find from the highway. Not clean or attractive. Little effort made to create a sense of caring.”

  • Ao dirty we didn't want to touch anything-staff was
    not helpful.

“It was so dirty, we were afraid to touch anything and were not sure if the sheets had even been cleaned. The only reason we didn't leave upon arriving is because we had been driving for hours and were actually lost in Springfield, we were just so happy to get there. Unfortunately, the staff member working was of no assistance. We called when we realized we were lost and he had absolutely no idea of how to get to the hotel so he kept pretending to put us on hold, but never picked the phone back up! We will never
stay at a Howard Johnson again. This particular hotel was especially shady and dingy.”

  • Front desk fellow was extremely pleasant & helpful.

“The front desk fellow was very pleasant and helpful. Hotel is far off the interstate to use for a quick place to sleep and then carry on.”

  • Everything.

“Half the rooms were gutted and unusable, the other rooms were trashed, peeling paint and wallpaper, huge holes in the walls, tub wouldn't drain,
TV only had 2 colors red & green, woke up with bites probably from bedbugs, room looked like it was cleaned with a dirty mop.”
