  • The view and the location.
  • About 70 stairs and no lift, but worked off that Gelato.

“We stayed at the Locanda Sturion for three days in July, 2006. At first we were daunted by the staircase--we had our two daughters with us ages 8 and 11--but began to look at it as a positive. We were eating enough pasta and gelato to gain weight, but after sightseeing and those stairs we managed to lose weight! The room from our window was alone worth the price. The canal and Rialto Bridge lit at night was breathtaking. It was a great central location for seeing museums and churches. We loved the free sightseeing tour included with our stay to see the glassblowing island of Murano. Breakfast was hearty and plentiful, with fantastic coffee. There was a cheap pizza and gelato place directly across the canal from the hotel. Definitely a plus as meals in Italy can run very high. Ask the locals for the best restaurants if you want to splurge. We asked our guide on Murano for seafood, and he recommended the local restaurant two doors down from the hotel that had its own fish market. It was steep--around $300 American--but one of the best we had in Italy. If you are handicapped or elderly, stay somewhere else, but otherwise most European hotels are overall more cramped and less luxurious than this one!”
