“Overall a decent stay, but I left feeling a little frustrated with the extra fees for parking, internet. To be fair, the hotel was under new ownership and currently under renovation. Access to the hotel from Ventura Blvd. was a slight challenge as I had to get through a separate restaurant's valet attendants before getting to the hotel lobby. The room seemed newer and more updated than the lobby, which was a pleasant surprise.”

“Stay elsewhere because it has problems, pricey, dated decor you can do better, keeps looking. We stayed there for a special event and brought in loads of out of towers. But, it was a constant stream of problems for us and all our guests, and it was embarrassing for us. They booked our special room out from under us, closed the pre-booked facilities before we arrived, then slapped on a fake charge after we left that we are still disputing. On the heels of every hassle was a bad-tempered staff person to add insult to injury. This former Valley landmark now earns its dollars housing film crews; their trucks filled the lots before and after our stay - and now they clearly aren't interested in serving tourists or public guests. This entire plus outdated decor and mediocre food. There are great places to stay all over L.A., keep looking and you'll find one!”

“The location was perfect. Only a few minutes drive to all the tourist spots. The restaurant menu was extensive and the service was an A+. We were unhappy with the room when we checked in, but the staff was happy to give us a different room. The only complaint was the parking. At night, valet takes up half the lot and you have to park way in the back of the hotel. They should consider where to put valet.”

“This hotel is a good place to stay if you like a relaxed atmosphere. It's centrally located in the valley, has entertainment and is totally different from what you would expect of a valley hotel. It's more like a resort.”

“It is old and dated-not quaint and charming. Its like a bad motel, not a quality hotel. Our balcony overlooked a dumpster. The hotel staff didn't seem happy in their work, it was rare to see someone smiling. My teenager daughter said the place gave her the creeps. It was such a let-down staying here after leaving the Disneyland Hotel. It was a very disappointing ending to an otherwise wonderful vacation.”

“This hotel offers tons of ambiance, lush grounds, a beautifully maintained pool and tropical setting. It's history is evident in the hundreds of autographed pictures of famous pictures that adorn the walls of the cafe. Great location, just minutes away from Universal Studios, Warner Brothers, and countless other attractions. The pool at night with the thousands of lights in the vegetation is beautiful.”

“We only stayed at the lodge one night and didn't check in until about midnight. Still, the hotel seemed nice enough for what we wanted (a safe hotel near Universal). When we explored the hotel the next day, we wished that we could have stayed a bit longer and enjoyed the huge pool. The rooms were what one might expect from an older hotel--a bit outdated and a little worn--but the hotel seemed nice enough and in a safe location. If you're looking for luxury then this isn't it, but if you want a safe place to stay while you're out visiting Universal and the sites then it's a great value.”

“This hotel has seen better days. It is definitely not up to a 3 star rating as listed. The coffee shop is fine but nothing special and the rooms are drab and dark.” Amenities at Sportsmens Lodge, Studio City
