With origins in the 13th century, this fine Scottish Baronial Hall is most famous for its connections with the celebrated poet Robert Burns, who wrote many of his well known works whilst staying at Friars Carse.

The hotel is set in 45 acres of woodlands stretching to the River Nith with private salmon and trout fishing. 21 en-suite bedrooms with colour TV, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer, telephone. Leisure facilities include a 9 hole putting green and panelled snooker room. After a day out on the fairways, Friars Carse is the perfect place to sit back and relax and analyse your game. The peace and quiet was heavenly, the nearby road and railway did not disturb us at all
room was to rear , and rather small, would've prefered 4 poster room at front

“had I known the variety of rooms I would have requested the larger room to the front but overall our stay was just what we were looking for - away from it all- but with it all easily accessible! All of the staff were excellent - you only saw & heard those”

Surroundings and atmosphere of the hotel
Window in the bedroom was stuck slightly open due to paint buildup

“Impressed enough to consider returning for a proper break i.e. not one night.”

Good food, attentive and helpful staff, lovely surroundings
no bad points

“Conveniently located for Dumfries, this hotel represents good value for money and the food was far above the normal standards for a hotel in this price range. It is peaceful and quiet, which I liked, and without doubt, I will stay there again. There are some 21 rooms so book well in advance if possible, to avoid dissappointment.”

Nice location, quaint hotel
Hot water - not hot and not available in the morning of my stay until too late
