“The only problem we had was being refused service at the hotel bar. When I asked for a reason the bar man / bouncer couldn't give me one. We were two liverpool fans sat in a quite corner who had caused no trouble what so ever.... unlike some of the other guests!
We paid a lot of money for this hotel and chose to stay in cardiff so we could have a drink after the match. If we had been causing trouble or were deemed as being drunk then I wouldn't have had a problem but we were neither and to add insult to injury no explanation was given.”

“I understand that the hotel recently changed hands. So allowances can be made for a slow check in and an even slower check out (I can only assume a change in operating systems). But for the grade of hotel the standard of room was I'm sorry to say, poor!
The room was dingy and the furniture in a very bad state with pieces of veneer hanging off and stained by drinks. Chairs with thready edges and the carpet was covered in stains.
The above appeared quite insignificant when on the Sunday we lost the use of water in the bathroom (I mean not able to flush the loo have a shower or even a cuppa before we checked out). In fact it would appear most of the hotel was in the same boat. And not even so much as an apology from reception staff (granted not their fault but none the less it would have been appreciated).
The information in rooms with regards to facilities (i.e opening times of the leisure area, restaurants etc was non-existant) a booklet supplied by Novotel in four different languages was wonderful'' if you were looking for a hotel, NOT if you were already there and just wanted some simple info (times) on facilities.
My final point (thank god I hear you say) is breakfast! how can Novotel justify charging 11.00 (good old English Pounds) for breakfast. Which I add wasn't part of our package as we were room only, but we weren't exactly kicking the door down to get to it at that price.
To summarise we did enjoy Cardiff but alas not the hotel (however the leisure area was great). Pitty because it was a weekend break to celebrate my Boyfriends 30th Birthday.

“This hotel had good points and bad points. The staff were very friendly and the service was good but unfortunately a few things could have been nicer. I was staying in the hotel with a large number of my family members, most of whom had no water in their rooms overnight and in the morning due to a problem with the hotels water system, so couldnt take showers/baths, get drinks of water etc, one relative had a non-smoking room which smelt of smoke.”

“The accomodation was slightly average for the price, but the check in staff were very helpful, especially when asking for directions around Cardiff.
The reception area was also immaculate and the structure of the building a delight!”

“Great location and good price when booked online-however normal full price is triple the online price so save yourself '''''''''s and get online!!
The free parking was also a great saving as we were in Cardiff for two daysand if we had used a carpark this would have cost in access of '20!
Give yourself enough time to use the facilities and get your moneys worth otherwise a super mini-break with Cardiff being a great place for Christmas shopping and concert venue! The Darkness Rock!!”

However, the 4th floor room was unsuitable for a normal sized person - low ceiling and small uncomfortable bed. Although tea and coffee facilities were provided in the room, there was no kettle.”

“Very disappointed that the gym was not available - this was the main reason for booking this hotel - it shold have been noted on the website when booking. A more detailed map and directions would be helpful. However the reception staff were very helpful and friendly. Parking facilites excellent. Pleasant accomodation in a central location. Walking distance to shops and short taxi ride to excellent restuarants.”

“As mentioned the standard of furnishings in the room was very poor, the bed was very tatty and the mattress was extremely lumpy and thin, the ceiling had a huge wet patch and the paper was hanging off, the bathroom was OK but nothing great.
Overall the standard expected was higher than observed and a little disappointing for a hotel which is fairly new. If a bit more attention was paid to the quality of the rooms my opinion would be greatly improved”
