  • Location, actual double rooms.
  • Plumbing, staff attitude.

“I was disappointed in this hotel. We booked with friends for 2 double rooms. We ended up with one room away at the back through the maze - which was a double and okay size wise. Our friends however ended up with twin beds, a blocked toilet and generally unhelpful staff who said they doubted they could do anything about it - and that was early on Saturday afternoon. For the money charged, I don't think it would be too much to ask to fix a dripping shower (all night long), wallpaper hanging off the walls/ceilings, and adequate plumbing.”

  • Reasonably near the city centre. Very good breakfast.
  • We did not like the arrangements for Dinner - in a bar with smokers very prevalent - limited menu

“For the money we paid I would have expected a reasonable degree of 'luxury'. The accomodation can only be described as adaquate though the Breakfast was excellent with very good service. Arrangements for Dinner were poor, to eat in the hotel we had to f”

  • Excellent value for money.
    Superb breakfast.
  • Hotel restaurant was closed in the evenings only Bar Food menu available which was very limlted

“The hotel was a little further from the town centre than I expected.
It was served by an excellent bus service. It would have been good to have the timetable beforehand.
A warning about limited catering would have been welcome.”

  • Reasonably central
  • My room was near a ventilation or heating plant, so noise throughout the night was very disturbing.

“I arrived late at night because of train delays and had been checked in to this room already. The room contained no specific information re fire escape route (plan), despite the rambling nature of the premises and simply referred to green exit signs which were barely visible from my room (64). I feel sure that I was given the poorly located, noisy and very cramped room (no room for bedside cabinet even) because I would be arriving too late in the evening to get it changed. As this was my first visit to the hotel I was very dissappointed - particularly since it contrasted with the experience of other reviewers on your site. I might feel completely differently had I been given another room. The breakfast (and breakfast staff) were excellent. Interestingly I was not asked by the receptionist whether I was happy with my stay - although in my experience this is usually asked - again confirming my perception that they dumped me in a poor room because I was arriving late.”

  • Almost everything.
  • No hot water. I was told it might take up to 15 minutes to run through. Also no lift.

“The hotel is positioned within easy reach of the city centre with a bus stop right outside. The staff were friendly, helpful, and efficient. Good bar facility and good breakfast. I will stay here again when in Edinburgh.”
