• Excellent location and rooms had tasteful period decor.
• Rooms were rather small. Did not feel like I got my money's worth.

“The Hotel is in an excellent location, less than a 5 minute walk to York Minster and the City Centre. The rooms although tastefully decorated are rather small, and I think the hotel is expensive for what you get.”

“The hotel is well located. The staff are polite and efficient. The work of the chambermaid was first class.Overall the decorative state of the hotel needs to be updated.The paintwork needs redoing inside and out.There was no light provided above the dress”

• Small room & bathroom. Staff were not what I would class as 3*. Resturant looked more like a campsite's indoor picnic area

“The location was excellent for access to the city centre, the main road our room faced onto was NOT. The resturant was more like a campsite picnic area than a hotel dining area, not what I would look for in a romantic break for 2 young professionals”

• Poor directions given on online information sheet - otherwise fairly accurate description of hotel and facilities

“Better map would have helped, so too the fact that there is an error on the booking form which states hotel is 2.5m from junction when clearly it is 250m from junction. Staff were helpful and booking in and out quick and easy - everything went smoothly and our stay was uneventful as I would expect it to be. My only very minor criticism is that during dinner and breakfast we were rather rushed when the dining room was not at all busy. This certainly does not warrant any kind of formal complaint - it is only a personal niggle!”

“The staff were friendly, pleasant and polite without being too pushy. We needed a break as my husband is fighting throat cancer and has been through a lot of treatment. We felt relaxed and comfortable and enjoyed the breakfasts,the hotel bar and the overall service. As we do not have a car we found that the hotel was near enough to the railway station for us to walk and very central for the Minster and the shopping area. Being on the first floor was helpful and the break was well worth the cost of the two night stay. Hope to visit again sometime.”

“The location of the hotel was perfect for York town centre. The staff where very curteous and friendly. The breakfast was excellent which was available from 8.00am until 10.00am which is handy if you would prefer a lie in. There is free parking at the hotel plus they allowed us to leave the car for a few hours after we had checked out. I would definitly stay at this hotel again.”

• Quiet and convenient for car park
• Smell of smoke although supposedly a non-smoking room. Bed not very good quality. Stuffy atmosphere.

“It was fine for a one night stay and reasonably good value. Good location, within walking distance of centre. Receptionist was friendly & had a helpful attitude but was not able to direct us to the university. She very kindly gave us a print-out from internet site but this was very misleading (not receptionist's fault, of course). Would be useful for hotel to have directions available!
Breakfast was good but with rather impersonal service.”

• The shower facility was dated and very poor. sorry to be negative.

“I enjoyed my stay, but poor shower pressure annoyed me a little bit. Also it was hard to maintain a constant temperature, and it becomes cold when you raise the shower above 5 ft - bizzare!!! Overall I was very happy with my stay.”

• really did not think it was good value for money; hotel was probably 25% overpriced

“The facilities were okay but the material I had read implied they were going to be better. The car park was really difficult and only needed a few cars to mispark to make it even more difficult. The bar and restaurant were adequate but very small and reminded me more of a bed and breakfast establishment than a 3 star hotel. Plus a number of the bedrooms were outside of the main establishment which could be a problem for some people.”

“I was a little bit disappointed with our room. I expected it to be nicer than it was. The girls at the desk were lovely and very helpful with getting us dinner reservations, taxi's etc.”
