“This hotel has the most beautiful atmosphere of any I have stayed in, the building is almost 300 years old and was once the home of poet William Wordsworth and his sister Dorothy. Walking through the doors you enter a quiet home of faded elegance rather than a stuffy hotel. Not signposted from the village this hotel must be sought out but is well worth the effort, an oasis of calm that wraps itself around you. I would recommend the Dinner, bed and breakfast option.
Muddy boots in the porch lay testament to the adjacent walks across the Quantock Hills. The nearby shore at Kilve is a haven for fossil hunters with dramatic rock formations reaching skywards and views across the bristol Channel to Wales. Within easy reach are Minehead with plenty of shops open on a Sunday, Street in Somerset with a large Factory Outlet shopping centre,Glastonbury, or the Willows and Wetlands Visitor Centre near Taunton (closed Sundays) where you may watch craftsmen fashion willow, walk through the withy beds, or visit the shop and tearoom. Ilfracombe offers excellent sea
fishing from the pier (no charge).
The hotel has a wealth of leaflets on places to see and visit and is a good centre to visit North devon or West Somerset.”

  • Friendly and helpful staff; excellent breakfast and restaurant; beautiful location; interesting building.
  • It's difficult to find, but worth it.

“In a beautiful location, the hotel has great character and elegance, and a peaceful old-world charm. There is a friendly, relaxed and personal touch to the service provided, which you would not find at one of the hotel chains. I would look forward to staying there again.”
