“I thought that the reviews on the activehotels website reflected a reasonable, moderately priced hotel - which is what I found. Ascot Grange isn't the Ritz but it wouldn't pretend to be and that's not what I wanted. I was very happy with my stay.”

• Very comfortable, rational use of space, everything in the right place.
• Extremely slow credit card reader connection in reception resulted in taking a 15 min walk to cash mashine.

“Overall the best value for money I've encountered in the last 12 months staying in hotels. Only disadvantage seems to be that you may need to pay in cash.”

• tv in the room, tea and coffee making facilities, friendly staff at breakfast
• expensive , no hairdryer, a bit smokey and noisy where my room was

“I would have liked a quieter room away from the fire door that everyone had to pass through if they had a room upstairs. As my room was infront of the fire door and just up the stairs from reception I heard a fair amount of noise until 11.00ish and my room got quite smokey. Overall I would say it was expensive for one person for one night ('48). I would have liked a hairdryer in the room, and a kettle that worked properly (it turned itself off after a couple of seconds and I had to keep turning it on until it boiled). The breakfast was a little bit disappointing (tinned tomato and rubbery sausage). Although it advertised as having satelite TV it only actually had Sky News and some German channels (it did not have digital).
However, the hotel was clean as was the bedroom and ensuite. The staff I met were friendly, and it was in a good location for where I needed to be.”

• Proximity to the university
• No non-smoking rooms. Breakfast cereal was stale. Evening meal expensive and very limited.

“This hotel is not suitable for disabled people in any way. Evening meals must be booked in advance. No restaurents in the area. Breakfast is not available after 8.15.”
