• The place looks really nice and they have really friendly staff.
• Uptight people. Security threatened to kick me out for a noise complaints from people downstairs for being loud at 9:30pm on a Saturday night.

“If you are in your late 50's and you are looking to sleep at 8pm this is the place to be. I definitely didn't fit this and I think that ruined the trip all together. The hotel is great with a Spanish-villa vibe to it. The bacon burger is worth every penny and the staff
were OK. I just know that the people who stays at this place are very uptight and nauseatingly over sensitive.”

• It was surprisingly quiet being that it was next door to UCSD.
• The bed was very old, lumpy and noisy. AC was also old and worked poorly.

“Very well kept, however too expensive for the location. Room was very clean but mattress was old, lumpy and noisy as well as the AC. Restaurants were very good but extremely expensive.”

• The hotel and grounds were immaculate and the staff were very friendly.
• I had to leave and finish my vacation. I wanted to stay longer.

“I would highly recommend this hotel to family and friends. The grounds were beautifully landscaped and well maintained. The pool was a perfect 82 degrees, which made swimming laps enjoyable. The rooms were a good size and were impeccably clean.”

“I didn’t like the idea that I had to use valet. And how I had to get to me room I was told the beach was near the hotel and it wasn’t and it was a nudist beach.”

• The service was impeccable and the facilities were beautiful.
• There were additional charges ($12 service fee/day, $20 parking).

“This hotel is absolutely beautiful. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and just stepping onto the grounds was relaxing. The rooms were beautiful, and the gardens were great. I wish I had time to visit the spa. The pool was very nice with cabanas along the sides. Overall, a perfect hotel for a relaxing and decadent weekend away.”

• I thought it was beautiful and relaxing. I enjoyed my stay thoroughly. The location in La Jolla is perfect.
• The check in process was disorganized. The spa services were not as available as I believe they should have been.

“I loved it and would recommend it to my friends and family. I plan to return there as soon as I can! The spa staff told us that we needed to make massage appointments two weeks in advance. That was the only problem we had with the weekend!”

“Day manager and the evening manager both went out of their way to accommodate us. They went out of their way to make our stay so great! We will go back to their establishment. Everything about the hotel was top notch.”

• The swimming pool.
• The Hotel staff and service.

“I was not aware of the $25 extra a day for parking in a lot right outside of our room and the nonnegotiable $9 a day surcharge for the newspaper and coffee already in your room. These costs added $170 to my final hotel costs. We had to catch a 7am flight on our departure day. The alarm clock in the room did not work. We requested a wake up call at 4am and watched the desk receptionist write it and a loose paper which seemed to be the practice for all requests. They never made the wake up call and if I had not set my cell phone as well we would have missed our flight. Overall I was very disappointed with the service and extra charges.”

• Perfect location and atmosphere; staff is very accommodating; well appointed room and grounds.
• No view, but still great location.

“Even though this property lacks a view of one of the most beautiful places in San Diego, it makes up for it in location (as it is just a short drive to anything in La Jolla), accommodations, friendly staff, nice peaceful atmosphere, nice decor that's not over-stated. The concierge went above and beyond to make our stay special when we told her that we were celebrating my boyfriend's birthday. The outdoor fireplace with great live music (contemporary flamenco) tastefully captures the Latin flavor of San Diego.”

• Nice soaps, good location.
• Poor service, poor room climate control, poor room lighting.

“While impressive in its setting, the Estancia was underwhelming in staff responsiveness to issues, most notably a broken self parking pass machine and reception unavailability and unresponsiveness to phone calls, and lack of follow up. The bathroom had a cracked sink, smallish mirror and poor lighting and the fan did not clear moisture well. The AC seems mis-engineered for the room, noisy and excessively breezy, making it near impossible to get a comfortable setting. The balcony was missing the screen door. Calling the room a veranda room on a green pathway is a bit of a misnomer as the room had a smallish balcony overlooking a smallish shrubbery area with a parking area and busy street beyond.”

• Rooms were very clean and well appointed, restaurant and bar were excellent.
• Too many children!

“The hotel itself is very nice. It is important to note that there is no ocean view or direct access to the beach. The spa facilities are adequate, but much less than other spa hotels we have stayed at. There were way too many children on the grounds, some that apparently were not even staying at the hotel. Very pleasant and comfortable once we were in our room.”
