From the beginning, Elite Plaza Hotel's history, has been one of praise-worthy tradition. Once housing the Svea Fire & Life Insurance company in the late 1880's, the buildings were developed by award-winning architects of that era. Recent renovations reflect their classicism and were showcased when Elite opened her doors January 2000.
The remarkable doorway made of fine-cut, partially polished granite and the genuine mosaic floor from England have been restored to their original beauty. Pillared halls with arches of Italian marble stucco and wrought-iron details are only part of the New Renaissance style, which the Gothenburg Commerce & Shipping Journal noted in 1889. It was said to be "..an embellishment not to Gothenburg alone, but to the whole of Sweden. Svea has the honor of owning a building, which in terms of stylistic purity, barely has an equal among buildings throughout the rest of Scandinavia."
