“The location of the hotel was pretty good. It was right by the beach (across a crosswalk that went above the interstate). It was also near many restaurants, bars, and shops. It was very affordable and we had a great view of the ocean from our room. They had a good gym and nice pool area as well. I did think that the staff could have done a better job at cleaning the hotel. It wasn't horrible, but could have been better. The staff was very nice. Overall it was a great trip and would go back to this hotel if I wanted to save some money.”

“We arrived at the Bahia Mar on August 19th and were staying until August 21st after five days in Key West. During our time in Florida Tropical Storm Fay decided to visit so some issues with the hotel are directly related to the storm and I understand that it is in no way the fault of the hotel. That being said when we arrived and went to check in I was a little more than frustrated. Because of the storm approximately 60% of their rooms had some water damage. (By their own admission). We were told they had a room for us but not at the Bahia Mar and wanted to put us in the Comfort Inn which is several miles from the beach. I was told that I wanted a hotel on the beach rather than one where I would have to drive. The person at the front desk was awesome and first offered us a smoking room that just wouldn't work for us due to the smell. The rooms in the adjacent four storey building were extremely small though they may be average for the Ft. Lauderdale area. The beds are not queen size, they are full size and are not very comfortable though the bedding is nice. The bathrooms are also very small and do not include complete bath amenities. They do have HBO but that's just about it except for the local channels and a couple channels of ESPN. Also in the adjacent building there is one elevator at the far end of the hotel and self-parking only available at the rear of the hotel which made getting to our room a pain with luggage as our room was in the middle of the hotel. There is also a mini-bar in the room with nothing in it.”

“The hotel is very old and is in much need of renovation. Carpet stains were throughout the hotel and our hotel room. Our room smelled and was very uncomfortable.”

“When we arrived at 1 am, we were told that the hotel was overbooked. The Hyatt Regency was ok. At this time, we were told, we would be compensated for our inconvenience with free parking and free breakfast in the morning. However, we had to check out at 11 am and our rooms were still not ready the next day at the Bahia Mar for our second night stay. We had requested a non-smoking room and when we arrived, our room had a horrible odor of cigarette smoke. When we called the front desk, we were told that our room was non-smoking and that the hotel could not control anybody if they decided to smoke in the room. The front desk person said she would send someone right up to deodorize the room since we had young children. We waited for 45 mins and none arrived. When we called back to the front desk, they rudely told us that there was only one person working in housekeeping and that they would come. None arrived the rest of the night. We sprayed perfume on the AC vent to drown out the cigarette smell. The next morning, we were supposed to remind the front desk people about compensation. We were told that they would compensate by giving us free parking and free breakfast. None knew anything about this and we were told that if this was the case, that coupons would have been issued to us the night we arrived. I explained that the night desk person was very swamped with three groups of people checking in and being diverted to the Hyatt, that he told us that all the rest would be sorted out in the morning about compensations. The manager finally agreed to give us the coupons but the server at the breakfast bar kept hounding us about who was going to pay the bill. She asked rudely 4 times about the coupons. She refused to go to the front desk manager to find out about the coupons. At one point, she told me I could not leave the area until the coupons were issued. I have never been so insulted.”

“It was a very nice hotel for the money and location, but some of the others along the strip would probably be better (but more expensive). Overall I enjoyed my stay, and I would stay again.”

“Overall my stay was pleasant and the staff was friendly. The interior of the hotel is very dated, with the halls having a musty smell and wall paper peeling off the wall. The rooms were clean and comfortable. I felt safe and secure in the location of the hotel.”

“The hotel provides easy access to the Marina and has a private secured entrance to the Fort Lauderdale beaches. The hotel offers A La Carte breakfast on the weekend and a buffet at other times. The parking is too pricey at 18.00 per night.”

“I like that it was close to the beach. The staff was very nice and helpful but I would not return nor would I reccommend it to my friends or family. The hotel was dated. The bathrooms lacked privacy and were extremely small and cramped. The restaurant had great food presentation but the quality and price was a disappointment, especially for children.”

“Very unpleased with the staff that were very rude. Additionally, the rooms smelled of mold. The accommodations were very dated. Parking was overpriced at $18 self parking per night, compared to other local nicer area hotels of $12 per night. Beach was great, but significant distance from hotel.”

“Our room location may have been my fault as I did not request a different room so I can't tell you what their response might have been. We were put on the ground floor beside their utilities room. All hotel activity and accesses were on the second floor. Also, upon arrival they told us anything could be charged to our room by showing our card. While on our way to the beach with no cash, we stopped at the pool to rent beach chairs that were available. We were told at that time that we had to rent the chairs with cash. I was very frustrated by this time and said forget it. But we loved our day on the beach anyway.”

“This is not a 4 or 5 star hotel! Don't stay here! Room and hallway smelled like mildew and the testing for the fire alarms went off at all hours for 2 days! Would you pay $12 for a ham sandwich? Stay at the Courtyard Marriot down the street!”

“Ref: Bahia Mar this hotel has seen better days. Great location just in need of remodel. Electric outlets and outlet covers in room were not secured. Electric conduit and j-boxes secured to inside wall of room leading to air conditioner. Large and very comfortable room though. I would consider staying at this facility again.”

“I was not pleased. I had to wait an hour for the room to be ready. The shower and toilet water was yellow. The doors to the bathroom were broken. There was no wet bar (refrigerator and microwave in the room) and this hotel is supposed to be a resort. Limited selection of foods in the restaurant. Common rest room was hideous. Staff was ok. No one was able to accommodate for the wait time. For the fact that it was supposed to be a resort.”

“Great location-facilities are newer but rooms in our section were in need of updating. Nearby shopping and restaurants. Beach right across the street with easy access. Broken water main in parking lot during our stay resulted in hours without water.”
