  • Location, internet, breakfast.
  • Not especially clean or nice; lack of attention to detail.

“I found the Sundowner Inn to be passable as a 2-star hotel, but in no way near the standard I've experienced with other 2.5-star hotels. The room was basically clean and appropriately furnished. But it completely lacked the niceties of a 2.5-star hotel, and it had a few detractions: sheets are not fitted; some noise from the nearby highway; smoke and noise coming under the door to the adjacent room; my desk chair seat bottom was broken, such that I would sink into the chair (very uncomfortable). Internet is free, but wired instead of wireless. Breakfast was free, and decent, but not spectacular. I don't think anyone looking for a 2-star hotel will be disappointed with the Sundowner, but you should pay a 2-star price.”

  • The location was good, very close to the freeway.
  • The curtains would not close tightly; I had to use a clamp to hold it closed.

“The place is a little run down and the neighboring restaurant had been closed for some time. The overall facility wasn't bad and reasonably clean. It is definitely much better than the very low rating provided by other reviewers. The breakfast was $5 which is reasonable for what you got. My only complaint is the first evening I was looking for something to eat at about 11 pm since I had not eaten dinner. I asked at the front desk but they indicated that it was too late. The next morning, I found a Denny's and a Carl's Jr within about two blocks from the hotel that opened late.”

“I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. It was overpriced. This hotel was not even as good as the motel 6 that I paid 39 dollars for. Hope they will do better.”

“Good place to stay to catch a flight out of San Jose airport. The staff is friendly and helpful. The continental breakfast was great including hot food, various fruit and breads etc.”

  • The suite that I stayed in.
  • The couch did not pull out into a bed.

“I read some pretty scary reviews about this hotel. I called the Sundowner Inn and spoke to the manager who assured me 2 adults and 3 small children would be ok for the room selected and that I would not be charged for 3 small children. I got to the hotel, the owner was there. He said I could not stay there because there were five of us. It was only when I got really upset that they put me in a suite for $50.00 more. The suite was really nice and clean except for some ants. I did not see the regular rooms. I had to specify that I did not want any maids coming into our room when we were there per other bad reviews on this hotel. The owner said I had to put a do not disturb sign outside the door. That is strange to me. I did not care for the owner at all and the manager is nice but seems very nervous around the owner which is also strange. There were five of us with one king bed. The couch did not pull out into a bed so at 11pm we had to call for a cot.”

“Avoid this dump. The restaurant next to it is closed down. Half of the lights for the hotel sign were burned out or broken.”

“My company needed me to do some work with another company at Sunnyvale for the past few weeks. I stayed at the Sundowner the first week because of it's proximity to the place that I would be working. My first impression of the room was below average. The room looked old and dark. The carpet was very worn out. The bathroom fluent light took 15 minutes to come on. The internet connection in my initial room didn't work. The clerk switched me to another room and the problem was solved. I asked the night clerk for a free shuttle the next morning to my work place. He told me to come down to the lobby at 8:00 am. I was there at 8:00 and asked the morning clerk about the shuttle. He did not seem to know I had requested for a shuttle. Another older gentleman behind the desk told me to wait by the sofa. I waited for 10 minutes and asked again. The clerk asked me where I was headed. I told him the company name. The clerk asked the older Indian gentleman if he was headed that way. The older Indian gentleman said that is only 1/2 block away, I assumed that he was implying that why I need a shuttle service. Just because of his tone of vice, I just said forget it and started walking there myself. The property of the place that I wanted to go was indeed only a 2 minutes walk from the Sundowner. But the real entrance was about a 20-25 minutes walk. The building that I needed to go was another 20-25 minutes from the main entrance. I was lucky that after I entered the main entrance, one of my co-worker drove by and saved me the rest of the 15 minutes walk and not be late to my meeting.”

Cleanliness:[4] • Staff:[5] • Location:[7]

  • Adequate gym (old equipment), hi-speed Internet, convenient breakfast.
  • Typical Motel 6 quality & experience; half-eaten pizza & box sat on top of garbage can in exterior stairs for 36 hrs; charged $5/day for breakfast.

“OK for an economy motel but not as a biz hotel. It was clean enough (except for the pizza box that sat on top of a garbage can in a stairway for 36+ hrs.) and the room was spacious but the decor/quality was plastic (e.g., flimsy plastic sheet of faux tile around bathtub). ”

  • Customer service was terrible, unfriendly, and rude.

“This is not a 2 1/2 star hotel. It should be rated an economy 1 star motel similar to motel 6 or Econolodge. Hated it - was extremely disappointed for putting us in this property. I've stayed in many 2 1/2 star hotels for past 8 years & know the difference - this did not meet my expectations or should it meet expectations of a 2 1/2 star. Look at your other customer's reviews & you know the star rating is not correct for this property - you need to downgrade the star rating on this one! The front desk even refused to give us new towels after we used our room towels for swimming in their dirty pool. We checked out a day early & took a loss for that last night - wasn¿t worth staying in; we were not enjoying ourselves. Even my teenager didn¿t want to stay - she instead stayed with friends in another hotel. Please downgrade this property so you will not lose customers!”

“This hotel is definitely not a 2.5 star level hotel. Besides that their service is horrible. When you check in you are told you have to pay a fee for breakfast. Also, rooms are not the highest standard.”

“Was not satisfied with hotel. Will only stay in 3 stars and up. It was older not as clean as should have been. A little insecure as safety. Someone dialed 911 to lobby and did not answer at her door so the police were called. Not a good way to start off 1st night there.”

“I said it once and will say again this is not a 2.5 star hotel in my opinion. Rooms are dark, cold and unattractive. My guess is that the towels and linens were picked up a k-mart sale of previously used items. Simply put, avoid this hotel at all cost.”

“The sundowner is a nice play to stay. I was confused, though, as to whether or not there was a free breakfast because when I checked in, the clerk said that breakfast was $5.00. Since I didn't plan on being there for breakfast, I didn't ask for any explanation, but it is something that should be explored for accuracy.”
