• Location.
• I had to change rooms after 3 nights for the fourth night.

“This is a great value hotel. It was very clean. It is basically across the street from China Town, and is close to the cable cars, trolleys, etc. I recommend it for an inexpensive, basic place to stay in SF.”

• Very good location.
• Room was close to the noisy elevator.

“Room was clean and in an excellent location in downtown SF. No problems with the hotel staff. Only problem was that the elevator was extremely noisy if your room was close to it. It was a little difficult to sleep if you let it bother you. Overall I would stay at this hotel again.”

• For the price, the cleanliness, comfort, location, and staff were all excellent.
• The hotel could give customers the option to have sheets & towels changed for water saving measures.

“Although the hotel has a minimum of amenities, it does have the essentials such as an iron and desk. I got a very clean, quiet and comfortable room. Who needs a hotel restaurant when you're in San Francisco? The location was ideal for me since it was very near Bart, buses and the street train, yet away from the indigent areas. The staff was very friendly and fixed my slow tub drain in very good time. I'd definitely stay at the Baldwin again.”

• Location security convenience comfort.
• Being in the upper floor in a corner while traveling as a single woman.

“The Baldwin was easily accessible to the financial district and its out lying area was close to the main the embarcadero and many other areas of interest. The room was cozy and the claw foot tub forced me to relax and enjoy some quiet time however the shower was nothing more than a trickle not enough for a shower that felt clean and invigorating. The staff was helpful and discrete.”

• Room was surprisingly clean and nicely outfitted.
• The elevator door closed on me even though I was trying to hold it for a friend, and was pressing the 'door open' button.

“For the price I paid, I was not expecting much. When I arrived at the hotel, the desk person was friendly and professional. When I got to my room, I was surprised at how clean the room and the bathroom was, and also the bathroom looked as if it had been painted and outfitted with new tile recently. Also were nice linens and blankets on the bed. TV worked well. Shower has good water pressure. Minor issues: no wireless internet available in the rooms, but there is a computer near the front desk you can use for a charge. Also, hotel did not have a restaurant, although there are plenty close by. We went to san Francisco for the weekend and were primarily there to see the city, and this hotel was perfect for that. It is very close to all public transportation and sights. Also would be great for business traveler, if high speed internet access in the room is not important.”

“Very close to a couple of bus lines and pretty close to bart. If you are looking for a place to sleep, shower and keep your stuff- it is a great place. If you are looking for the Ritz Carlton, pony up more dollars. In sum, a great place for travelers on a budget.”

• There was only one ice machine, which was on the bottom floor.

• Good price, friendly staff, great location right at the gates of china town.
• Stark, bare, dingy atmosphere, smells and looks old, needs upgrading.

“The price was greatly appreciated considering the location. Staff was nice as well. The outside facade is somewhat deceptive as the rooms are not quite up to par. I was given a non-smoking room when I specifically asked for smoking. The room was quite stark and dark w/ very bare necessities. When I walked into my room, there was a since of 'loneliness', as there was nothing there that had a sense of welcome or comfort. I guess that's why the price is so low since there is not much spent on the little extra things that make a hotel experience worth coming back for. The rooms also felt and looked quite old, and smelled that way too. If you're just looking for a place to lay your head and plan to spend most (if not all) of your time outdoors, then this may be right for you. Otherwise, it might be worthwhile to pay extra for something better.”

• Located in a convenient area for visiting several San Francisco landmarks.
• No amenities in the hotel, very expensive for what you get.

“Located at the entrance to Chinatown this hotel is adequate for travelers looking for basic accommodations without luxury. Close to restaurants and nightlife the environment is conducive to the active tourist. Cost was not exceptional and would have to improve for me to return.”

• I was expecting two full beds per room. I got one full bed per room.

• Size of the bed is too small.

“Baldwin hotel definitely met our expectations, especially for budget travelers. For that price range, we couldn't ask for more. Convenient locations, right in downtown, near all shops and restaurants. Room, lobby and hallway are quite clean. Several front desk agents are friendly and helpful, but house-cleaning staff may need a bit more training. One down point is that the size of the bed is way too small. Overall we are satisfied with the quality of the hotel.”

• room was moist and decrepit. Walls crumbling, doors lock at midnight, no ironing board or iron or hairdryer.

“Good location. Bed is adequate, but short on charm, light in the bathroom, and overall feel of cleanliness. A couple of minor amenities would be nice too. Such as an ironing board.”

• Had same toilet papet previous guest used, and tried to dress it up as if it were new.

“This hotel was in a convenient location. Overall it was nice; however, they were cheap as far as the accessories for the bath room. Of all the hotels I have been to, I have never experienced any of the hotels to use, or have a used roll of toilet paper and try to dress it up as if it were a brand new roll when you can clearly see that it had been previously used. Thank God they had another unused roll available in my bathroom.”
