Cleanliness:[1] • Staff:[1] • Location:[9]

  • The hotel floor is very dirty. What on worse is that the hotel staffs are very unfriendly.
  • I requested a room change from a queen to two double beds; they asked me to pay extra money.

“Hotel lactation is good, but it is very dirty and noisy from the above floor. In addition, the hotel staffs are very unfriendly.”

Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[2] • Location:[2]

  • Hotel was extremely clean.
  • Staff was rude and car garage was not open 24 hrs.

“Hotel staff was rude. Would not recommend this place if you are traveling by car- especially if you plan on arriving late at night. We had different experiences with the staff. They were all, but one, brushing us off and being helpful at all when asked for alternative means of parking. Hotel rooms were small but very clean. The area at night is not safe as there are many homeless and lots of men just hanging around. It didn't help that the hotel is right across the street from an adult store. I will not book at this hotel ever again.”

Cleanliness:[2] • Staff:[1] • Location:[6]

  • None.
  • Manager and staff.

“This place has to be one of the worst experiences Ive ever visited in my 36 years on this planet. If youre a transgender person, don't go there. They don't like blacks either. Manager and some of the staff are rude and when called on, it became combative. I had to call and cancel the rest of my stay and am seeking legal action against management. The windows and drapes appeared to have not been cleaned since putting them up. Comforter had a slight odor too. Stay away from this place unless youre into trashy lifestyle.”

Cleanliness:[5] • Staff:[6] • Location:[6]

  • Location.
  • Clogged sink, broken remote, loud, small, exposed wires.

“The hotel wasn't the worst but should have been under the 1 star economy choices.”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[5] • Location:[2]

  • Although the hotel is old, it is reasonably clean.
  • Hotel is pretty old. Location in front of adult store/showcase.

“I had drunk neighbors fighting in the middle of the night, which was very loud. The hotel is right in front of adult movie and showcase, and a pretty bad neighborhood, which could increase the likelihood of getting drunken neighbors in the hotel.”

Cleanliness:[1] • Staff:[1] • Location:[1]

  • Nothing.
  • Hotel was not clean, small rooms, location no safety.

“Hotel room was not clean, small and inconvenience. Location was not safety. I didn't like from this hotel.”

Cleanliness:[7] • Staff:[7] • Location:[5]

  • Great bargain.
  • The neighborhood might be a little scary.

“The neighborhood is not so neat, but the hotel room is ok. Overall, it's still a good deal.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[9] • Location:[7]

  • Quaint lobby, walking location.
  • Bit of a sketchy neighborhood.

“Easy walk to things you want to see. Close to expressway (easy to get here from airport). Quaint lobby, elevator area. Helpful staff, comfortable room. Hair dryer and iron, coffee in the lobby. Neighborhood a bit sketchy--probably not for the family with young children.”

Cleanliness:[3] • Staff:[1] • Location:[2]

  • Nothing.
  • Television did not work, charged too much for parking and the bed was old and uncomfortable.

“This hotel was a waste of money. I would have much rather stayed at a Motel 6 because at least I'd know what I was getting, and honestly, at a Motel 6 I can rely that they are generally clean, the television works and the staff is friendly. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone.”

Cleanliness:[7] • Staff:[6] • Location:[5]

  • Close to Market Square, affordable.
  • Hotel was in the ghetto.

“Affordable and in walking or, bus distance of Market Square. The hotel was pretty clean; the only bad part was all the homeless and xxx shops across the street.”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[2] • Location:[9]

  • The location.
  • The walls were very thin! You heard everything! We couldn't sleep at night because of the elevator!

“The monarch wasn't all that hot. The hotel staff was rude and not very accommodating. I read all the reviews and asked for a room high up so it wouldn't be noisy. They placed us right next to the elevator and it was so loud! The walls are way thin! And its very hard to sleep at night. The location is great, its near a lot of restaurants and local transportation. I would think twice before I stay here again!”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[10] • Location:[8]

  • Kept 'old hotel charm' with well updated and maintained renovations.
  • Unfortunately, lousy water pressure!

“Old hotel well maintained kept some of the old hotel charm including the small elevator. Lovely lobby, European feel.”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[3] • Location:[7]

  • The location was near union square.
  • It was unsafe! I got locked out on the roof. There were no signs or safety features telling us to avoid going up there, and the door closed behind us.

“The heater was broken and I got locked up on the roof for over an hour, after there were no signs or features telling us not to go up there. Very unsafe and cold!”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[8] • Location:[5]

  • Great value for the money!
  • On a noisy street.

“This hotel exceeded my expectations for a 2 star hotel in San Francisco; Ive stayed at many 3 star hotels that were far worse than the monarch. The location is moderately close to union square; however I would only recommend walking there in the evening. The room was very large and had a huge walk-in closet. While the fixtures were old, they were in pretty good condition. The staff was very nice and appeared customer friendly. Of the 2 star hotels in SF, this is at the higher end! I would stay there again in a pinch.”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[9] • Location:[5]

  • Clean.
  • Parking was about half a block away and cost $19 a day.

“Great hotel! Well worth the money. The rooms were very clean and safe. I walked the streets alone at night and did not have any problems. Sure there were some homeless people outside the hotel but they did not bother me or even ask for money. If your have ever stayed in the New Orleans French quarters its about the same. Just your typical big city older hotel.”

Cleanliness:[6] • Staff:[3] • Location:[5]

  • The location was decent to tourist attractions.
  • The room was extremely small and the walls were very thin.

“Good for college age students who just want a cheap room for a short period of time who are sound sleepers.”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[6] • Location:[3]

  • Coffee in the lobby.
  • Location in "tenderloin" neighborhood.

“The room was small but clean. Staff helpful. Location on "cathedral hill" turns out to be on the edge of the tenderloin, which is not a good neighborhood. But relatively short walk to downtown for the fit and adventurous.”

Cleanliness:[3] • Staff:[4] • Location:[1]

  • Quaint room with great view of street life action on corner.
  • Location is extremely bad with hookers, crack heads and crazies outside.

“First of all, you'll be happy to find out that the elevator has updated their permit. The features of the room included: a deep bathtub, high ceilings, a city view and the newest Panasonic TV (tube not plasma). The nightlife outside of the room is filled with hookers, pimps, homeless and drug users. Once in the hotel, you feel safe; however watching what goes on outside of your room is disturbing, yet entertaining. Being from Southern California, we were not scared, however in such a bad part of S.F., we were careful where we parked our car. Speaking of parking, we did find metered parking on the street, which is free until 9 am. Check the street signs, because street sweepers come everyday on opposite sides of the street. Parking is offered from the hotel for $21; Overall we would recommend this hotel for people on a budget staying one night for the noises of the cars at night and street sweepers in the morning would not be nice to listen to another night.”
