“Location is within walking distance of Union Square, Ferry Building., China Town, and it's clean. The bed was extremely comfy and plenty of good towels. The artwork was fun and seeing all the black and white photos along the hall was cool too.”

“My boyfriend recently had an interview in san Francisco and although the company paid for one night where we wanted to stay a couple of extra days to check out the city. We decided to stay at the hotel des arts because it's really affordable. It was so cool to stay in this place. Iżve never been in any hotel like it! It was really cold when we were there, but the beds were extra nice for cuddling. And, we had a private bathroom, which I highly recommend. The public bathrooms were very clean and no one ever seemed to have a conflict, I just prefer the privacy. The most excellent part of our stay was that we were able to see some of the other artists rooms, in addition to the one we were staying in. Even better, we were there at the same time that one of the artists was there to paint one of the bigger rooms. She let us come in a watch her work for a bit and it was so amazing! I only saw the first wall finished, but if I get to go back, I definitely want to stay in that sugarluxe room, plus it's a room that has a private bath! Even my boyfriend thought her work was so sexy. This room would make a great little love shack. So, love the sugarluxe room and I really do love the hotel des arts. ”

“Good location. Not the Ritz-Carlton, but good value for the money.”

“The Hotel Des Arts has a wonderful location, an interesting theme and cordial staff. That said some rooms are lacking--not as clean as one would like. The lack of ventilation required us to open the windows (even on the coldest SF night) which let in the noise of jackhammers and a kitchen fan that shut off at 11 PM and turned on again at 4 AM. Overall good but not great.”

“We paid a dirt cheap price for this hotel. After reading the reviews online I was really nervious about the condition of this hotel. However I was nicely surprised when we arrived. It was very cool. We had a room with a queen bed, and private bath. The room was painted like we were in the middle of a map. The art throughout the rest of the hotel was great as well. The staff was so helpful upon our arrival. She gave us great tips on how to get around the city and save $. The hotel is so close to chinatown, North Beach, the trolley, the bart, and bus lines. We had a GREAT experience at the Hotel Des Arts!”

“This hotel is just a few steps from the gate to Chinatown. While the rooms are basic, the place has a lot of personality and really is a bargain. Very comfortable bed. I also liked the art on display, especially in my room. The only thing that could have been improved was the continental breakfast, which was just bagels (not even good bagels), OJ and coffee, with styrofoam cups (I thought Californians were environmentally conscious).”

“Hotel des Arts had gotten very mixed reviews, so I was concerned when I found out this was the hotel I had won. My concerns were unfounded however. I was given what (I think) was the best room in the house: private bathroom, interior courtyard room (no street noise) and clean (no bedbugs). The staff were generally pleasant and informative. The only complaint was the breakfast provided (frozen bagels) but it's a small complaint given the fact I pain $60/night for a room in conveniently location in downtown San Francisco.”
