“I enjoyed the fact that it was very convenient, literally in the heart of the Gas Lamp District. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful to our needs. The only complaints: again, the pool was very dirty and had a ring around the waterline tiles and our room was on the south side of the hotel with a view of an old parking lot. On the pool, we did not notice it until it was too late and we had already begun swimming in the pool. We told the front desk of the problem, and apparently they were aware of it as had scheduled for the pool to be drained and scrubbed that day.”

“Hotel is in a good location to downtown, San Diego, if you don't mind the construction (not too bad). The overall decor of the hotel was really nice and inviting. I've had better service from a cashier at McDonald's than the front desk staff. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that they were having an off day's). Had breakfast at the hotel's restaurant. WOW! Excellent staff and food! Little pricey, but well worth it. Valet service was prompt and friendly.”

“Was impressed with where the hotel was located and with the decor inside the hotel and our room. Bed was very comfortable. We were able to walk to Petco Park and to Seaport Village and also to the Gas Lamp District. We would definitely stay here again.”

“The hotel was in a great location. The room was very clean as were the halls and entrance. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There was coffee and tea available in the morning and in the evening between 5pm and 6pm there was wine served - nice touch. I would recommend this hotel to family and friends.”

“This hotel needs some improvement for me to consider this a 4* hotel. The carpeting in the hallways is old and faded and in our hallway it smelled. No bedspreads on the beds. The pool bar did not even open until 5:30 pm and this is normal per the hotel staff. We checked in at 2 pm and hoped to have some pool time. We had to call room service to get a soda/drink etc and have them deliver it to the pool which means we had to leave the pool, and go to our room to call room service for an order. I think this hotel should be adult only. Also, we did not realize this is a pet friendly hotel and had to deal with dogs in the elevators. I would not stay here again!”

“Hotel is in a great location near Petco Park. You are walking distance to the Gas Lamp District. Staff at this hotel is very courteous and efficient. Room was great. Bed great to sleep on. The pool here is not really for swimming. It is way to small. It is more for the J6 bar outside which turns into a nightclub. The wine tasting which is complimentary was rough. The wines taste rather cheap but it seemed like nice touch (If they would get better wines). The hotel concierge was friendly but lacked specific knowledge of certain happenings. Parking is a way they boost their room price. Across the street you can pay less but no in and out privileges. Overall experience was good.”

“Loved it but when I added the parking into the cost of the room it ended up more than I really wanted to pay.”

“Hotel was ok. Have stayed in much nicer 4 Star plus hotels in the area and this was not in the same range. Room was small, was right near pool which has a great stereo system during the day, unless your trying to sleep. Room need extra work on the decor, and everything in room cost extra. PS parking overnight rates $35.00 for guests much higher than other area hotels.”

“We had a good stay because it was a week day so no party people were there. Overall it was a nice room and I was happy to stay there.”

“Great hotel with close proximity to lots of shops/restaurants within a few minutes walk. The only downside of the hotel is that valet parking is expensive ($32/night).”

“This hotel was truly a deluxe hotel. We thoroughly appreciated the staff and their attempts to keep us comfortable and happy. The hotel was clean, modern, and in a great location. I would definitely stay there again in the future!”

“The stay was great at this hotel but was a little disappointing that the shower did not work properly and wasted a lot of water when this hotel claims to be very eco friendly. Other than that, the location was great and I would probably stay there again.”

“Wonderful hotel with beautiful decors and hard to beat location. Young and hip vibe all over the place. May not be suitable for family travel. Parties at the pool during weekends might be too loud for some people.”

“The Hotel So Lamar has a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere throughout. Room was clean and well maintained. Although some previous reviews said this was not a hotel for families with young children, I didn't think that. In fact, there were several families there with children. Only complaints were the valet parking price of $32 per day, small bathroom sink (water goes everywhere), movie pay per view system had issues and even turned off right in the middle of our watching "Kung Fu Panda" (we didn't get charged for it), and no drawer space whatsoever (had to keep most everything in suitcases. Except for these minor things, our family enjoyed our stay at Hotel So Lamar.”

“This hotel was beautiful and the staff was excellent, however the parking was 36.00/night. They offer complimentary wine in the evening which did me no good since I was traveling with my young children. There was no continental breakfast which meant we had to buy breakfast out too.”
