• Close to highway entrance.
• Terrible views, especially from inside rooms.

“Hotel has been updated, but the rooms had a musty smell and the views were not very good. The pool is adjacent to the lobby, very small with only 6 lounge chairs.”

• Quaint atmosphere.
• Location. Hard to find and you actually have to drive through several parking lots to get to. It is obscured by a bridge.

“The hotel was under construction when I visited but it was tolerable. They did not start until after 9 am. Remodeling to include a nice restaurant and updated rooms. Quaint atmosphere and nice staff. The rooms were nicely decorated and the beds comfortable. Aged hotel, but all in all was great.”

• It's colonial Spanish look.
• It was old and the carpets were worn.

“This was overall a nice place to stay and I would return to stay there the next time I visit San Clemente CA.”

• I liked the private patio and the outdoor pool.
• I did not like the dirty carpets and hard bed.

“We stayed for 8 nights. For the positive, we enjoyed the continental breakfast, outdoor pool, and private patio. We also like the free Internet access. It was nice to have a mini-fridge and microwave. The things we did not like were: when we got there, we could not get a King bed room as we had selected. They were not available. Our room was on the bottom floor which smelled like mildew. The carpet in our room turned our feet black. There were large cockroaches in our room and the downstairs foyer, which was never cleaned while we were there. The bed was very firm. Our room was right next to the freeway so very noisy.”

• Rooms were updated and nice.
• Halls ways on 3rd floor need to be cleaned and the location is a bit odd and way in the back behind a group of stores.

“At first glance I was a bit concerned. Location is very odd. Inside was clean and the rooms themselves were much nicer than the hall ways. The rooms were upgraded and nice.”

• It was clean with good maid service.
• It was very average, and there were very noisy groups there one night.

• The warm pool water.
• People smoking and drinking around the pool and talking loudly.

“Good for the money but it seemed to be in need of some TLC. Some paint is needed in the lobby and hallways. The room was ok but the mattress needs to be replaced.”

• The nicest hotel room I have ever had. Clean, new, had a couch.
• Awkward location overlooks freeway.

“This was the nicest hotel room I have ever had. All new clean. There was a bed and a couch, so seemed homier than the typical hotel room. However, it overlooked the freeway, so opening the window meant the room was quite noisy.”

• Nice pool, breakfast, and staff.

“The hotel sits just off 5 freeway on Pico Avenue. A great location with easy access to beaches, freeways and restaurants. The room was clean with color TV and patio. I had nice view on third floor. Ice machine,daily newspaper, and nice staff. Wal Mart, Albertsons within one mile on Pico. Hotel sits on hill and quiet. Highly recommend!”

• Location! A short drive to some great surf.
• Ironing board wouldn't go down (that's it!).

“My wife, daughter, and I recently drove from Texas to California so that we could score some surf. 1. The pool was wonderful. It's heated and was very clean. 2. Although you have to drive through a shopping center parking lot to get to the hotel, the location was great. A short distance away are the beaches and some world class surf breaks. Also, the hotel was approx 55 miles north of San Diego, and 60 miles south of LA. 3. The staff was super friendly. 4. Ask for a room on the 2nd floor. We were on the second floor and I could only feel sorry for the people downstairs when my daughter would run up and down the hallway.”

• Marble tiles, and counters was a surprise for an older hotel.
• Shows its age, no fruit in breakfast area.

“This was a great surprise. Seems they upgraded the units, and combined 2 adjacent rooms into a kind of suite. Having 2 full baths, and sleeping for 6, 2 on queen bed, and 2 on each of 2 sofa beds. 2 TVs, 2 balconies. It was more than I expected for the price. A little odd that you have to drive through a shopping mall parking lot to get to it.”

• It was pretty once you got up the hill.
• It was in the back of a shopping mall.

“The staff was nice and the room was clean but the location was strange. It was really easy to find and right off of the freeway. You knew you were close to the beach even though you could not see it.”

“People were nice. Breakfast was great, more than a continental breakfast could ever offer. Rooms were clean and roomy. Near the beach and shopping! First class all the way!”

• We were able to check in early.
• No bacon or eggs in breakfast buffet.

“We got there early for a wedding in the area that started at 3 PM. We were fully prepared to just get ready in the car because we knew check in time was at 4 PM. But the hotel staff very graciously went out of their way to find a room that was ready for us. We were able to check in at 1:30 and get ready for the wedding!”

• The all suite room.
• It was dirty, smelled bad and was in desperate need of a complete remodel. I mean shut the place down, gut it and start over.

“This hotel was in a very strange location, the parking lot of a mini mall. It was desperately out of date and unclean had a smell of stale food and mold. Location was terrible in relation to the business center I worked in and was overall a bad experience.”
