“It would be nice to have something other than pastries for breakfast. The hotel was in the perfect location and with only a few minor maintenance issues in the room like a missing door knob on a closet, the hotel was great.”

• Bed was average compared with other places I've stayed recently.

• The decor was very beautiful and the location was excellent.
• The rooms could have more pillows and could be a little bit bigger.

“Amazing for the price and star. I came here a couple of days before my business trip, with my boyfriend, and it was nicer and better than the luxury hotel that my company put me up a few days later. It is located right across from the Lincoln Park Zoo, about 15 minutes walking distance to the world famous Second City comedy club, and all of the boutiques`.”

• Room was whole apartment with view of lake!
• No room service.

“We were totally overwhelmed with the charm and great location and view from our windows. Although we expected a suite, we didn't expect it to be a whole apartment and were thrilled with all the extra space. It was hard to get our teenage nephew to leave the room it was so nice! Although we would have liked to have been in walking distance of downtown, it turned out to be great to be across from the zoo for my nephew and we liked the quieter neighborhood and view as a tradeoff hands down! The staff was extremely courteous and helpful, couldn't ask for better!”

• This was a well located elegant older hotel with a quiet safe environment.
• Parking is a bit pricey.

“This is a well appointed older hotel just north of the downtown area. The rooms were functional with a small kitchen area set up like a studio apartment. The lobby was elegant and inviting. It is right across the street from Lincoln Park and the Zoo and a short walk to the beach. A continental breakfast was included. It is also situated in a boutique style red Bick neighborhood with some elegant shopping available within a short walk. All in all I would certainly stay here again and will recommend it to others.”

• Room was extremely dated and dirty.

“I planned a romantic getaway for my wife's 30 birthday. It was completely ruined by this hotel. I would have never stayed there. The room and furniture was outdated. Some of the kitchen appliances were as old as me. The fridge fan rattled all night! Besides that the carpet was stained and the room was not very clean. I am very upset that my plans of diner/theater and a nice stay down town with my wife were spoiled.”

• The location was perfect. Right across from the zoo and conservatory. Close to grocery too!
• The continental breakfast wasn't that great. All the bagels were dry and seemed to be day-old!

“We had a good time at this hotel. It was very pretty and in a perfect location. We only had one problem, our toaster caught on fire and when we called the front desk to let them know and request a new toaster. We never got one nor did they come to check it out. Which was surprising, considering we had a fire in our room? Front desk ladies were very pleasant and helpful. Overall a great stay!”

• Location, staff very accommodating and friendly, beautiful lobby.
• No alarm clock or radio, carpeting was stained, broken vertical blinds did not block light in bedroom.

“This is a lovely old hotel with beautiful architecture, overlooking gorgeous Lincoln Park which is so clean and perfectly maintained. The room (suite) we had was spacious and beautiful but needs a little more maintenance: window treatment in bedroom did not block light, carpet was stained but clean. We loved the neighborhood; walking distance to Wrigley, restaurants, and waterfront bike path. I would recommend it highly.”

“The location that we wanted was great, the hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Carpet could have been a little cleaner otherwise it was perfect for our stay. We will go back again.”

• The staff was very nice and accommodating. Lincoln Park Zoo is right across the street!
• The bathroom was dirty; the bed was incredibly uncomfortable; not what I expected for the star rating.

“I would not stay here again. Add $35 a day for parking to the price you expect to pay. Also, with the exception of the view, the room is lackluster. The kitchenette was filled with incredibly dated appliances. The refrigerator smelled like lettuce, and we did not have any lettuce. The bathroom was not clean upon arrival and was very dated and cramped. It was in need of a remodel. The worst thing was the bed. It bowed in the middle, which I did not know was possible for something as hard as a rock. The staff was very nice, and valet service was great. However, we were warned not to return to the hotel after 12:00 AM or no one would be there to park our car. We had to leave our concert early to assure we were back by that time. The public spaces of the building are beautiful and stately.”

• Beautiful, affordable, large rooms, great location.
• Rude front desk girl.

“Very nice hotel! Room was huge, great location and very beautiful! I would stay here again if it weren't for the front desk staff. Started the weekend negatively. Most of the staff was great, but the girl at the front desk was very rude.”

• I loved the "old world" charm and feel of the hotel.
• Front desk staff was a little unprofessional.

“We loved this grand, old, but very well-kept hotel. The lobby is elegant and welcoming. The rooms/suites are huge and very comfortable for one or a family. The adjoining restaurant is fabulous. No room service, but it got us out walking around the quaint neighborhood in search of a Starbucks. We highly recommend this hotel and we'll be visiting often while our daughter attends college nearby.”
