“For a hotel right at the downtown of Chicago, I didn't expect such a small and old room. There's no bath tub. You have to be careful not to hit your elbows when you shower in the small bath cell. But, the location is good.”

“The hotel was bustling, immaculate and very warm and friendly to all visitors. Anybody I asked for help went above and beyond the call of duty to put themselves for me and my family. It was truly family friendly and everybody was so accomodating.”

“It was all good for our purpose, within walking distance to Soldier Field and Navy Pier. The view from our room was spectacular.”

“We had a great experience at the hotel. We have stayed at Congress before and will definitely stay again and longer. The only disappointment we had was at the bar. Only one bartender and trust me, he did a fantastic job and really did his best with that many people. The manager did come in to help and really, we thought he was better off staying out of it. He ignored us and helped people before us. We spent a lot of time in there and a lot of money. The bartender did a much better job than the manager who came in to try to help if that is what you would call it. I thought poor planning on scheduling and then a manager who doesn't move fast or even to seem to know what he was doing. Overall stay was great. We ended up leaving the bar and went somewhere else but then came back.”

“Had to walk 5 minutes to get to ice machine through numerous corridors, couch missing in room, peeling wallpaper and worn out carpets, not kid-friendly, but exceptionally clean and beds were super comfortable, excellent location for downtown Chicago, probably would stay here again, hey-it's cheap, clean, and comfortable.”

“The Congress is an old hotel. The rooms are tall but have small overall area. It seemed to be torn between maintaining its old classiness or becoming old and run down. The entire place desperately is in need of a face lift. I read other reviews that complained of the noise but it's right in the Loop and noise is unavoidable. That's like complaining about the salt air by the ocean. As for the modern business traveler, they need to get wifi.
I walked down the street and got it free from a cafe instead.”

“We would ask Steve where to eat and he would direct us to fantastic inexpensive places. He would tell us how to get the best deal using the transit system and which sites to see. Steve knows everything and is willing to share his knowledge. He is wonderful and funny.”

“The only problem with this hotel was that the late check-in was somewhat inconvenient for me, other than that, it was great!”

“Great location - and the extra for the room with a view of lake Michigan was worth it. But they are having a labor strike. If that was resolved, I would return.”

“The Congress Plaza Hotel is a very nice place to stay in downtown Chicago. I appreciated the fact that even for the upscale nature of the hotel, it offered a reasonable charge for internet service and we had access to ice makers and soda machines.”

“I did not have my expectations high because of the two star rating. However I did not expect to switch rooms because of an overwhelming, musty/mildew smell that was coming from the bathroom. After packing my bags to move to a different room I was once again disappointed. I found myself awakened at midnight because the ceiling was leaking directly above my head. Apparently this happens when the person on the 9th floor decided to take a shower.”
